Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge #8

CHACB Steampunk Layout 04Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge #8 and Blog Hop With Sin City Stamps

Welcome to another support group meeting for Craft Hoarders Anonymous!  Gloria (our Chief Hoarder in Charge) has cooked up another amazing challenge for us, and we’re also having a Blog Hop with the Sin City Stamps Design Team.  Buckle up little crafters….literally….because this challenge is all about using metal or glass.  Here are the deets:

Do you hoard gears, pins, brads, eyelets, frames, and other metal do-dads? Do you have a thing for tiny light bulbs and glass vials? Do junk drawers make you giddy? Do you hang out in office supply stores so you can score funky paperclips? Do bottle caps make you swoon? Dig through your hoard to find something metal or glass (or both) and make a project to share!

Be still my  heart…..I love this challenge. But before I share my inspiration piece, I want to thank our totally awesome sponsors for this month.  Let’s hear a round of applause for Really Reasonable Ribbon and Sin City Stamps!  Both of these companies have sponsored the design team this month, and have provided amazing deals and prizes for our followers.  Check it out:

Time Flies Mixed Media Layout

As you will soon see, I really got into this challenge.  I used inks, stamps, sprays, paints, and a bunch of fun embellishments on this Steampunk inspired mixed media layout:CHACB Steampunk Layout 01aI began with a piece of backing paper from a corrugated box.  I painted the edges with gesso, then layered on a lovely barn red sheet of 12×12 cardstock.  I dug deep into my paper hoard (which grows more embarrassing by the week) and found this orangey toned paper from a My Mind’s Eye collection.  Which I proceeded to tear up and otherwise abuse.  What fun! The centerpiece of this layout is the chipboard mannequin from Sin City.  I love the detail in this laser cut embellishment.  I painted it black and then began to build around it, adding wonderful Natural Jute Ribbon from RRR to the base of the piece.  The wings were treated with Rock Candy Distress Paint, and all the little clocks and compasses were treated with Glossy Accents so they look like glass. Grungeboard letters and wings were also treated with Glossy Accents.

CHACB Steampunk Layout 07This Steampunk pocket watch from Sin City was stamped twice and cut out.  I cut only the center from the second stamped image, treated it with Glossy Accents and mounted it with foam tape to the inside cover of the watch.  All the stamps and gears in this project are from Sin City.  Aren’t they FUN?

CHACB Steampunk Layout 06From my hoard of metal embellishments, I dug out the airplane propeller, wings,  goggles and  compasses.  In fact, I bought not one new thing to make this project.  I used Natural Jute String from RRR to draw attention to the chipboard binoculars.

Now for the blog hop:

Now it’s your turn!  Go visit each of the designer blogs, leave them some love and then dig into your own hoard of metal and glass embellishments.  You do not need to use Sin City Stamps or Really Reasonable Ribbon to play along, but your project should follow the challenge guidelines.  You don’t have to do Steampunk, either!  I think you will be surprised at the many ways the designers used metal and glass in their projects. Be sure to read the challenge RULES  and be sure to get your project linked up the the CHACB BLOG before midnight PT, June 1st.

We will be dropping in on you to oooh and aaaah over your creations….and one of your fabulous designs will be chosen to win the prize package displayed at the top of this post.  But with this challenge….everybody wins!  Because everybody can use the 30% off discount code from Sin City, and everybody can get the special deal on the monthly ribbon club from RRR.  I like it when everybody wins!  It makes me happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers!

How has it taken me this long to connect all your numerous dots?! Thank you for leaving me your kind and lovely comment. In trying to track you down, I realized that your work has crossed my eyeballs more times than I can count. I’ve been a Crafty Secrets girl for many years and enjoy Pinterest.

Your style is so fabulous, and I marvel at the sensibilities needed to create such dense and complex compositions. (Not that clean & simple seems easy to me either.) In particular, your color sense knocks my socks off, especially your blues and pinks. Your ability to use many colors, and not make the eyeballs spin, is one of my favorite things about your work.

Your writing style is as delightful as your art, and we crafters are lucky to have your talent spread so liberally around the net. You’re one of those rare folks with the energy, heart, and talent to be all places at once, and do it all well. Thank you for sharing your gifts enthusiastically. Sure am glad my feeble radar finally picked you up!
