Fairy Happy Birthday Wishes Gift Wallet for Sophie Grace

Hello Friends!  Summer is birthday season in the Clement household   I have almost a dozen birthdays to prepare for over the next several weeks.  The first one in line is our dear Sophie Grace who turns 8 years old this year.  How is this even possible?  Because she is totally into Fairies and Fairy Gardens this year, I put together a darling little Fairy Happy Birthday Wishes Gift Wallet for her party on Saturday.

I’ve used gorgeous Peony Delicate Stitched Satin from the RRR Ocean Breeze Ribbon Club Assortment along with Crosshatch on Peony Satin on this shabby chic design.

How To Make a Mini File Folder into a Mini Album

Begin by choosing your designer papers.  I chose to work with Prima’s Princess Paper Colletion.  (retired)

  1. First, die cut three sets of mini file folders from designer paper.
  2. Next, blend Vintage Photo Distress Ink and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink onto the inside of each file folder.  (You do not have to follow this step if your paper is double sided.  Mine was white on the reverse.)
  3. Spritz and flick water onto the ink.  Heat dry.+
  4. Now, ink up the Dear Ruby Background Stamp with Sepia Archival Ink and randomly stamp on the inked surface.
  5. Next, Cut two 1/5″ wide x 4.5″ long strips of designer paper.
  6. Ink the edges.
  7. Score in half.  This is the hinge you will use to join the file folders together.
  8. Then add 1/2″ Scor Tape to the white side (or back side) of each strip on both sides of the score line.
  9. Remove the liner from one side of the hinge and line up along the front bottom edge of one folder. Press in place.
  10. Repeat the process with the other side of the hinge, but this time press it onto bottom back edge of another file folder.  Now your folders are hinged together.

Turning a Mini File Folder into a Pocket

Now that you’ve joined all three of your file folders together, you can begin to decorate them. Here’s how I turned one file folder into a pocket.

  1.  First, open the file folder so that the tab is at the bottom.
  2.  Then, add 1/8″ Scor-tape to both the left and right hand side of the folder.
  3.  Now peel off the liner from the tape and press in place.

Instant pocket!

Decorating the Cover

Create a little banner with designer paper.  Add mini buttons to dress it up. To create my ribbon closure, I ran 1/2″ Scor-Tape along the back edge of the album then wrapped it with a piece of ribbon that was long enough to tie into a bow.

What’s in Your Pocket?

I adore Tammy’s Mini Tag Book Die and used it to create a fairy themed mini album to tuck into the pocket of the gift wallet.

Fairy Happy Birthday Wishes Gift Card Wallet by Kathy Clement Photo 7Fairy sized pockets are easy to make.  Simply die cut several  shapes from Tammy’s Tab Set Two, glue just the sides together and you’ve got an instant pocket.

A fairy princess kitty and a fairy paper doll in a pocket add lots of whimsy and interactive elements to the pages of the mini tag book.

. I’ve tucked a ticket to the fairy dance party into this Tab Two pocket.

The book measure less than 1″ wide and a little more than an inch tall.  The pages are stitched into the spine.  Fairy Happy Birthday Wishes Gift Card Wallet by Kathy Clement Photo 13It’s the kind of thing you’ll only do for your precious granddaughter.

And no fairy mini tag album is complete without a Pug Fairy wearing a crown.

What little girl wouldn’t like this fairy themed creation, Kathy? What I particularly enjoyed was the myriad ways you incorporated the theme–love those tiny books! It’s got my head playing with other themes that could use this layout. Doll houses for example or little league. . .you’ve got me hooked! Thanks for sharing this idea and the great video tutorial
