Gatefold Slider Cards Tutorial

Gatefold Slider Cards Tutorial for Wonderful Wednesday Choose Your Own Adventure
Stamperia Hidden Grove or Graphic 45 Season to Celebrate June Papers

Hello, Friends!  Today I have a Gatefold Slider Cards Tutorial for our Wonderful Wednesday Choose Your Own Adventure.  What’s that mean?  Well, we will be making 2 cards with 2 different paper collections but only ONE card recipe.  And  you get to choose which card you’d like to make!  Will it be our dapper Steampunk Frog made with Stamperia Hidden Grove papers?  Or will  you choose the cheery Sunflower Teapot card made with Graphic 45 Season to Celebrate?  You can even choose to use the card recipe with papers from your own stash!  Don’t  you just love to choose your own adventure?

Cardmaking Adventure #1: Steampunk Frog Gatefold Slider Card with Stamperia Hidden Grove

I’m sure you’ve made lots and lots of gatefold cards.  The card front opens just like the gates to a fortress.  These cards are usually topped with a focal image that is adhered to just one side of the gate.  Bows, magnets or belly bands are often used to keep the gates closed.

But a Gatefold Slider card has a clever (and easy to make) mechanism that slides up and down between the gates.  It keeps things neat and snug until you slide the mechanism off the card.  Generally, you create a focal image on the top part of this mechanism.  And so we did for our Steampunk Frog, only we created a dimensional landscape with ephemera bits from the paper collection.

TIP: Add even more dimension to your card front by adhering small steampunk gears to the frog’s top hat and the sentiment.

Look Inside!

Inside this whimsical creation, we’ve added a pocket, some fussy cut embellishments, chipboard, a journal card and a cute tag.  Tuck in a gift card or a small treat, and you’ve got a really adorable gift on your hands.

Adventure #2: Graphic 45 Season to Celebrate Gatefold Slider Card

Our Graphic 45 Season to Celebrate Gatefold Slider Card is all sunshine, sunflowers and songbirds!

TIP: Use a craft knife to cut a small slit in the top of the teapot so you can slide sunflower ephemera inside the pot!

TIP:  Cut an oval doily in half and trim it to fit each side of the card gate. Then adhere it with collage medium.  Be sure to brush the top of the doily with collage medium as well so that the slider mechanism doesn’t get stuck on any loose bits.  Cut the cute TEA tag in half and adhere in the center of the doily.

Dress up the inside of the card with die cut ephemera and journal cards.  I’ll show you how to make the pocket from one piece of cardstock in the video tutorial.

Super construction technique Kathy! Definitely going to use the slider on a male card due next month. Creative time with my friend is done for this year and it was so much fun. Lotsa tea and coffee along with trying new 3d embossing folders, stencils, colouring paper dolls and using oxides and glaze, the hours flew by. The stamperia papers are cute (not particularly my thing) and I too loved what you did with the g45, especially toning them down so they complimented rather than overwhelmed, another example of clever design!

Love this style of card! I also struggle with bold colors but have to say the Graphic 45 card is my favorite. Whichever paper you pick for next month is okay with me as you can work magic with them all!!
