Gear Up for Christmas Mixed Media Tag

Stamperia Gear Up for Christmas Mixed Media Tag Tutorial for Wonderful Wednesday

Hello, Friends!  Today we’re going to show you how to create this whimsical Stamperia Gear Up for Christmas Mixed Media Tag.  This large (6 1/2″ x 12″) project features a Tim Holtz Medium Etcetera Tag, handmade flowers, trims, charms and the cutest little steampunk inspired mice ever.  It’s Wonderful Wednesday, my crafty friends!  Are you ready to get  your craft on?

Steampunk Inspired Christmas

If you want to shake up your Christmas home decor, I thin you will really enjoy this sweet tag design!  (Even my husband loves this paper collection!)

There’s just something about these darling little mice that captured my imagination and inspired me to create a BIG tag that can be used for home decor, gifting, and photos.

A Peek Inside

Oh, yes…there is a Santa Claus, Virginia!  And here he is rocking in his favorite chair as he reads the Christmas Daily News.  Matilda Mouse is inspecting the gift at his feet, and I hope her tail doesn’t get rocked on!

TIP:  Score flaps and a spine on patterned paper panels to create a fun gatefold opening.  Use magnetic discs to hold the flaps closed.

TIP:  Punch out circles of burlap paper to line the outside edge of the tag.  Then ink up some wooden star buttons and adhere in the center of each burlap circle.

I love the fact that this tag can be displayed open or closed.

And you knew there had to be a pocket somewhere, didn’t you?

The Flip Side

It seemed a shame to waste one whole side of this great big tag.  So I created an 8 panel kinetic waterfall on the back side.  This provides space for 16 Christmas photos.  Since each panel measures 5 3/4″ x 5″, you can fit good sized photos here.

Would you like to learn how to create this festive holiday tag?  Then grab a cuppa and a snack (this is a LONG video) and please enjoy this tutorial.

I’ve added basic measurements in the description box below the video on my YouTube channel.  I’ve also tagged a few of the harder to find supplies there for your convenience.

You will find a linked supply list below this post.

So what’s the verdict on Steampunk inspired Christmas?  While I truly enjoy traditional Christmas images and patterns, I have to tell you, this was a really fun change of pace.  I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below.

Thanks for stopping by friends!

I am going to have to watch the video again as this format is sooo good! What beautiful details Kathy, from co ordination of the papers, embellishments, and such sweet die cuts. You really set the scene and this project tells a story, it is wonderfully whimsical and yet vintage!
It is hot and humid today, and I have been in the arty space quite a bit this week while builders have repaired one balcony and are prepping the verandah, modernising the area. Best to stay out of the way!
