Heartfelt Creations Rustic Sunflowers Tutorial

Heartfelt Creations Rustic Sunflower Tutorial with Spellbinders Home Sweet Home

Hello, Friends!  Today I’m going to share a Heartfelt Creations Rustic Sunflower Tutorial with you.  Sunflowers are part of our “Sunflowers and Bees” theme for August.  Now I’ve been creating handmade flowers for over a decade, and sunflowers are probably my favorite ones to make. This tutorial will show  you how to use Distress Inks to color your cardstock as well as useful tips for stamping and die cutting.  You’ll learn how to shape the flower layers by hand, or with the Heartfelt Creations flower shaping mold.  Then finally, I’ll show you how to create the perfect flower centers.

There’s no card tutorial today….just flowers, but I had to show you how cute they look when added to a card.

Spellbinders Home Sweet Home Die

August is a big birthday month for our family, and this is the card I  made for our precious daughter-in-law.  She and our son live in a pretty blue house with a white picket fence.  So when I had the opportunity to work with this Spellbinders Home Sweet Home Die, I  knew I would use it as the focal image on her birthday card.

One of the things I love about this die is the size of the finished house.  My card base measures 7 1/4″ x 5″, but it does not get lost on this large card.  Here are a few tips for bringing this house to life.

TIP: Fill the flower boxes with moss.  Then dot Dries Clear Adhesive randomly on the greenery and sprinkle with Prills to create realistic posies.

TIP:  Every home needs some landscaping at the front, so I used more moss to make some faux flowering bushes near the doorway.

TIP:  Die cut curtains and door from patterned paper scraps to add contrast and interest to the design.

You can find a tutorial for this dimensional card base HERE on my YouTube channel.

This card was made with your heart and I have no doubt will be a treasure for your daughter in law. Love the way you mixed the tiny elements for the centres of the sunflowers, as they add texture and depth to the vibrant petals. A super card all round Kathy.
After a month of being away on several trips I am looking forward to arty time over the next few days. Your videos keep the motivation, thanks for sharing.

Great card and beautiful sunflowers! I love sunflowers and the HFC are some of my favorites! I haven’t played with them in a very long time but you have inspired me to go get them out and squish some backgrounds. I am also going to make note of all your color combinations. Thanks for the inspiration – hope you have a wonderful day, my friend!
