Crafty Secrets February Linky Party: Hearts, Flowers and Music
Hello, Friends!
Welcome to the Crafty Secrets February Linky Party! We’re getting you ready for Valentine’s Day this month with a Love/Music theme. I have a wooden Valentine frame that I’ve altered for you and loaded up with hearts, flowers and music. Now it doesn’t get any more romantic than that! I also have a quick and easy tutorial for making fun little metal spirals that you can add to your projects to add loads of visual interest. So go grab a cuppa, and a blanket…if it’s cold….and we’ll get started.
I found this scalloped heart frame during a recent trip to Michael’s. It is made from lightweight, unstained wood and perfect for altering. I painted it with a little DecoArt Chalk Paint in “Lace” and while the paint was still damp, I sprinkled it with Stampendous Shabby Pink Pastel “Frantage” embossing powder. This gives a great shabby/chic finish and little bits of gold glitter are in the powder, so it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day. I loaded it up with lots and lots of hearts, flowers and music paper!
All my papers, images and ephemera are from the Crafty Secrets Vintage Valentine Digital Kit. I printed the red and black music paper, the Valentine Words collage sheet and the Valentine Flowers paper to measure 8″ square. The LOVE tiles were given a UTEE beauty treatment, as was the focal image, which is one of the pretty tags in this kit. I fussy cut various elements from the Valentine Words Collage, and one of the Sweetheart tickets from the kit and matted them with black cardstock so they would stand out. I used my Heartfelt Creations Vintage Floret Dies cut out the flower layers from the Valentine Flower paper, then shaped, stacked and inked them. Dew Drops were added to the flower centers.
I layered the Romantique Garden Bleeding hearts die with some die cut leaves and swirly leaves and then began to “build” my layers.
This sweet metal bird nest was perfect as a topper for my sweetheart banner.
And this cluster of tickets, keys, hearts, keyholes and metal “springs” are just plain fun.
I used vibrant Red Twill to make my looped hanger and romantic bow, topping it with a little metal hook that I found in my stash. (Cleaning one’s crafty space leads to the delightful discovery of fabby doo-dads!) Here, you can see more of the quirky metal springs, and here is how you make them:
The great thing about these, is that if you mess one up (like I did here) you can just re-wrap it and it will be alright. I love stress-free crafting!

Wow! I’ve sat for far too long, gazing, looking and loving this project. The details of the heart just keep on giving. I spotted one thing and loved it … then spotted another – and loved it; then there was ‘that’ thing – ohhh, I loved that! And … it just went on and on. This whole work of heart speaks of what is the essence of *you*, Kathy. I love it.
I wish I had even a microgram of your talent. It’s no wonder that everyone loves you and your art – you’re one of the bestest ever!
Sending love (and crafty admiration) ~ Cobs. x

What a brilliant integration of so many crafting techniques. It takes real talent to create a project like this that does not drive the eyes “Crazy.” The viewer is first focused and then directed by the design to points of interest.
Thaniks for the visual treat!

The comments so far have really hit the nail on the head! This piece of art is so layered up with sweetness and vintage-y goodness – my, oh, my! I always love that you give so many wonderful detail photos and explain the how-to’s. I’m going to have to look for those Michael/s frames – a great base for this incredible Valentine! By the way, what are DewDrops?
This took ages! I can’t believe all the processes you used to make this Valentine eye candy masterpiece. Where do I start… the flowers are amazing and of course the UTEE itmes are perfect. You even painted and embossed the wood frame and there is only a speck of it poking out! I loved seeing the close ups and the tutorial on the wire springy things is great. As I mentioned before “rich excess” that’s what Valentine’s and romance is all about. You also did a great job, once again, on the heartwarming blog.
I lost count of the number of techniques you included! This is one fantastic piece of home decor! I love the pink and red together. I love the flowers, but best of all are the vintage images! So adorable!
