Tammy Tutterow Designs: Hello Springtime Card with Felt Flowers

Hello, Friends!   It’s time to share another cheery project using my favorite Tammy Tutterow Designs goodies.  With Springtime in full bloom here in North Carolina, I decided to use the Framed Hello Stamp from Happy Grams 2 to create a bright and cheery Hello Springtime card with felt flowers.

Does it get any happier than this?  Look at all these layers of pretty polkadots, gingham prints, and tiny florals.  All the papers are from Authentique’s Springtime paper collection. Here’s how I put this one together:

How to Make a Hello Springtime Card with Felt Flowers
  1. Create a 5″ x 7″ top-fold card base from primitive cream cardstock.
  2.  Cut a 4 7/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle of the 12×12 floral print
  3. The blue gingham print is on the reverse side of the floral print.  The rectangle I’ve used here is the piece I had left after cutting the floral panel.  Easy peasy!
  4. Cut two fishtail banners measuring 2.5″ x 5.75″ .  Place over the blue gingham panel so that one is high and one is low, as seen in the photo.
  5. Machine stitch all the layers together.  Or, just glue in place, but I like the texture and detail the stitching adds.
  6. Die cut a doily from the aqua print paper.  Back with foam dimensional or waste chipboard to add dimension.
  7. Stamp the Framed Hello Stamp onto smooth white cardstock using Jet Black Archival Ink.   While I had everything out, I stamped several, just in case I had a coloring boo boo.
  8. Color in with your favorite markers, or other coloring medium.  I used Zig Writers..which technically are not for coloring, but they worked just fine.
  9. Back the colored image with foam dimensionals or waste chipboard and glue in place.
  10. Add White Opal Liquid Pearls to the dots in the stamped design.  Let this dry while you work on your felt flowers.

Making the Felt Flowers and Bow Cluster

I confess to a new found love for making felt flowers.  They add so much gorgeous texture to a project like this.  I’ve been working with 100% wool felt because it cuts cleanly and holds its shape.

  1.  Get out your Shabby Posies Die.  You will only be using the two smallest dies for this project.  I cut 4 each of the larger flower layer, and 2 of the smaller.
  2. To shape the flowers, I use a double layer of foam shaping mats and a ball stylus.
  3. Heat up your glue gun.  Place a small dollop of hot glue directly in the center of the bottom flower layer.
  4. Lay the second flower layer on top so that the petals are staggered.  Use the ball stylus to press firmly into the center of the flower and hold for a few seconds.
  5. Fill the cavity with a vintage button, flower stamens, beads or buttons.
  6. Die cut leaves using the leaf dies in Pom Pom Posies. Ink the edges lightly, then mist the back of each leaf lightly with water.  Shape.
  7. Tie a loopy bow with yellow chevron ribbon.
  8. Glue the ribbon at the lower left corner of the sentiment panel.
  9. Top with the flowers.
  10. Glue the leaves in place.

A Peek Inside

Use pieces of paper that you’ve already cut to finish the inside of your card.  A pocket is always fun, especially when you tuck in a sweet image, a sunshine yellow teabag and a little note.

And what did I do with the rest of the stamped images? Because I was having so much fun, I went ahead and made a little stack of bright and sunny note cards.  You can never have too many note cards! The inside of each card is blank, except for a tiny border strip of patterned paper.

I am absolutely NUTZ over the card with the 3 yellow posies over the turquoise bow!! I haven’t been a real fan of felt flowers in the past BUT …what seems to be your “M.O.” has caused me to Re-think my opinion of felt flowers! LOL. You have such a unique way of putting together multiple mediums and patterns, etc. and creating a new meaning of the word “GORGEOUS”!
Thanks for sharing your amazing creations!
