Wind Back Wednesday Home Baker Card Duo from Scraps: How to Create a Master Board

Hello, Friends!  How would you like to learn to make this cute Prima Home Baker Card Duo from scraps?  It’s Wind Back Wednesday, and I want to show you how to transform all those little bits and bobs and scraps of designer paper into a beautiful mixed media master board.  Then we’ll use that 8 1/2″ x 11″ master board to create both a slimline card folio front and a Tea Party in a Box card front.  Sound like fun?  Well, it is!

What is a Master Board?

If you’ve never heard the term “master board” before, you’re probably wondering what it means.  A master board is a custom made paper panel that is inked, stamped, stenciled, panted, embossed, or put together with existing scraps of patterned paper. You can combine all of these techniques, use just one, or pick and choose to create your own designer paper.

The new creation can then be used to make cards fronts, tags, embellishments, pockets, ATC cards, ephemera…whatever  your creative mind can imagine.

For today’s master board, we will use a combination of patterned paper, stencils, texture paste and paint spatter.

The Home Baker Tea Party in a Box

The first project we are going to create from our master board is this adorable 5″ x 7″ Tea Party in a box.  Our background panel is created with small scraps of paper.  You can find the basic measurements and scoring instructions in the description box below the YouTube video.

Here’s a quick peek inside this darling card made (mostly) with scraps.

Slimline Card Folio:  Project #2

We had enough paper left from our master board to create this sweet slimline card folio.

There’s a fun lift page inside the cover with a sweet little baking mouse fussy cut from the 12×12 paper pad.

This trifold card even has a kinetic waterfall and a little pocket/tea wallet combo on the inside.  Again, I primarily used scraps of my designer papers to create the inside card panels.

Fantastic use of materials Kathy. The mixed media finish makes any project so much more touchable. I think that I would have a section of your wonderful masterboard inside a basic card with a die cut frame and sentiment on it so most of the texture is seen, the masterboard is that good! All those goodies in the tea party in a box integrating the little bits and pieces of leftover papers is another finishing touch that takes the project to a professional level and yet one can do this from the creative space when just having fun with the help,of your tutorials. Well done love these projects!
We have everything crossed the cyclone in the Coral Sea gives us a miss so we can head across to NZ to see family in 2 weeks. Not much time left to get a bundle of cards made to take with us, your videos keeps me motivated!
