House Mouse Christmas for World Cardmaking Day
Hello, Friends! It’s World Cardmaking Day, and I have an adorable House Mouse Christmas card to get your crafty juices flowing. While I’m not a fan of real live mice, I do enjoy storybook mice. Since one of my goals for 2023 has been to improve my stamping and coloring skills, I decided I should stamp out this cute image and get in some much needed practice.
First, I stamped the image on to pearlized ivory cardstock with Jet Black Archival Ink. Then I heat embossed with clear embossing powder to add a little dimension to the stamped image. Next, I painted the image with Elizabeth Craft watercolors and a water brush. Then I went back in with Arteza colored pencils to add some details and shading. Finally I added some glitter and dewdrops to liven up the evergreen branches.
I’m not much of a colorist, so using the paint with the colored pencils works better for me than alcohol markers. All you alcohol marker super stars have my admiration!
Creating a Scene
While the glitter was drying, I used the Festive Branches 3D embossing folder to create a background for the holiday mice. I used my finger to lightly brush the raised areas with Nuvo Mousse. Then I matted the background on red cardstock and a black 7″ x 5″ top fold card base.
To make the mice stand out, I fussy cut around them, backed them with foam tape and centered them over a Callista Shadow Box Frame die cut. I wish the glitter showed up better in the photos. It’s quite pretty in real life.
A Peek Inside
The patterned papers are retired Authenthique Vintage Christmas. The little side pocket holds a Christmas tea bag and candy cane. You can use the candy cane to stir the tea, and it acts as a sweetener, too.
Will you be making a card or two today? I’m actually writing this on Friday, and will be with my husband at his 50th class reunion tomorrow, so I’ll be doing my card making on Sunday instead.
You can find a linked supply list below this post.
Wishing you all a joyful and creative World Card Making Day!
Cheerio,
kathy

More treasured Authentique paper nice! I think the best design decision on this card was to fussy cut the mice and elevate the image…definitely served to bring attention to this element. I, too, enjoy using many House Mouse designs.I don’t do any coloring…preferring, instead, to take time to do paper piecing. I won’t buy a stamp unless I know I can use my favorite technique on the image. Love the tea bag and candy cane filling the pocket! Not ready to work on Christmas…Halloween and Turkey Day first. In fact, in celebration of World Cardmaking Day, I’ve just ordered a large witch hat die set…I can see black roses on the hat brim…pretty, but a bit creepy, too! Enjoy all your weekend activities!!
This is a beautiful creation Kathy! I laughed when I read your comment about alcohol markers. I started a small collection but didn’t do them any justice so I gave them away. It’s Distress crayons and watercolor pencils for me.
Kathy, what a precious Christmas card! The little mice are just so cute and you did a fabulous job coloring them. I would love to stamp but my coloring and shading skills are abysmal. LOL I love the candy cane button and the beautiful inside image. As always you add the sweetest surprises inside. Thank you for sharing! Hugs!
