Let Them Eat Cake Birthday Cards for Spellbinders 20th Birthday Celebration!
Hello, Friends! Today we’re going to sample two Let Them Eat Cake Birthday Cards! Why? Because I’m celebrating Spellbinder’s 20th Birthday with TWO varieties of cake! How fun is that? Spellbinders has launched a great big Birthday Celebration Release to mark the occasion. So if you love cake (who doesn’t?) and if you love pretty papers, and if you love clever dies…then this post is for you! Let’s sample some cake, shall we?
Tutu Pink Fringed Cake Slimline Card
Our first Let Them Eat Cake sample is this frilly little pink number made with the Fringed Cake die. Let me just say, I had so much fun making this slimline card! The papers are from the Cheerful Celebrations 6×6 pad, so I had to do a little paper piecing to cover the front of this 4 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ slimline card. It’s a pretty basic recipe, so I’ll share it with you here.
- First, score an 11″ x 8 1/2″ sheet of heavy cardstock at 4 1/2″, 5″, and 9 1/2″. Trim away the small flap on the end of the panel, then fold to make a 4 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ slimline card with a 1/2″ spine.
- Next, cut a 4 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ panel of soft pink cardstock.
- Then cut (2) 4 1/4″ wide panels from the floral and gold foil geometric papers in the paper pad.
- Now adhere the floral pattern at the top of the pink panel. Trim the gold foil panel to fill in the gap.
- Here comes the fun part: stitch pink tulle trim along the edge where the two papers meet. Then wrap 3/8″ Coral Rose Small Check ribbon above the tulle.
- Die cut the center panel from Becca’s Eyelet Lace Frame and adhere it.
- Finally, die cut the cake and the cake plate and adhere to the base.
TIP: All the layers of the cake are cut with the same die. Rather than stack them as they are, try trimming the ends to create the tiered effect that you see in the photo.
Dress up the spine with a few girly birthday charms.
Create a pocket on the inside to hold a special Birthday Cake chocolate bar.
Let Them Eat Cake Birthday Card #2: Topsy-Turvy Layer Cake
Because this Topsy-Turvy Cake Die made me think of Dr. Seuss, I decided to take a walk on the wild side for this cake sample.
Once again, I created the same 4 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ slimline card base. But this time I covered the card using Photoplay’s “Add Another Candle” paper collection. The end result is this vibrant confection.
TIP: Place foam tabs between your cake layers to add extra dimension to the cake.
TIP: “Frost” the cake with some Dries Clear Glitter Glue and a little clear fine glitter. It doesn’t show up as well in this photo, but in real life, it looks amazing!
Add a box pocket inside the card. Then fill it up with goodies for a Birthday Tea party.
Dress up the goodies with scraps of your designer papers, and don’t forget the spoon!
So are you craving cake? If so, I’ve done my job! You can find a linked supply list below this post.
Thanks for stopping by!
Cheerio,
kathy

Your cards are always a treat to behold and inspire happy almost giddy thoughts of delightful celebrations and yummy sweets. Your cakes look so scrumptious and adding a little bling to the icing is certainly inspired. And those goodies are certainly the icing on the cake! Love these cards.
I agree with Cheryl…both cards are beautiful and so unique!! Adding the tulle fabric was such a wonderfully creative decision. I LOVE the bright colors of the second card…beautiful and so filled with joy and celebration! I think I would find myself adding those delightful charms to the 2nd card, too…I do love the look and sound of dangle charms! Today I was hoping for something to make me smile at the joy of being alive…these happy cards did it! Thank you, Kathy!
I love both cards, Kathy!! They are so different, but the personalities of each is perfect – you certainly are gifted with talent – thank you for sharing these beauties!!!!
