Little Birdie Crafts Succulent Garden Altered Journal Tutorial
Hello, Friends! Do you have a boring old notebook or journal lying around the house? Not very inspiring to write in, is it? Today’s Little Birdie Crafts Succulent Garden Altered Journal Tutorial will show you how to take a journal from blah and boring to fun and fabulous in no time!
I snagged this 8″ x 10″ faux leather journal off a clearance shelf at a local Tuesday Morning. It was great quality…but kind of ho hum in appearance. The perfect piece to alter!
First, I stenciled the cover with a design from Little Birdie Crafts and some LB Sparkle Paste. Then I added paint, burlap, distressed papers, fussy cut images and of course, gorgeous florals to really dress it up.
My floral cascade is made with a mix of succulents, beaded flowers, tiny petals and gorgeous foliage, all from Little Birdie Crafts.
Chipboard, sisal fibre, fussy cut elements and some wood letter tiles make all the difference. Now this journal is pretty enough to have out on display! It would also make a wonderful gift for someone who loves to garden.
Would you like to learn how to alter your own boring journal? Then just watch this YouTube video to learn how.
I hope I’ve shared some tips tricks and ideas that you can use in your own crafty adventures. If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

I saw this on Little Birdie this morning, and I was so excited to see you get out your mixed media supplies and alter this journal! What a great mix of colors and texture! I love your stenciling and the use of the sisal tucked in there–adds an unexpected touch! Hugs!

Very cool! Love the texture and of course the flowers.
Good Morning, Kathy! What a fabulous idea for dressing up something so plain and making it something very special! I have a friend who is an avid gardener and would love that! What a great idea. Those colors, flowers and paper are so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I so enjoy your projects!
Oh, my! I am over the moon about this journal! I love mixed media techniques used in combination with applied crafts materials. This is such a romantic journal – the perfect spot to plan a garden – or write some poetry while sitting in one! I’ve also altered a number of journals and notebooks – but I’m fairly certain none were as successful as this one!
I’m glad to be ‘back’ on my regular morning schedule and able to catch your posts (I’m sure I’ve missed a couple in the past week) … I’ll have to investigate to see what I’ve missed!
Now off to watch your video and steal a few tips! As always, thanks for sharing!
