Little Birdie Crafts Songs of the Sea Folio: Guest Designer Post

Hello, Friends!  Happy Monday!  Today I’m sharing a Little Birdie Crafts Songs of the Sea Folio that I created as a Guest Designer for LBC.  I call this one, “The Mermaid Garden.” The saturated blues, beachy patterns and lovely mermaids in this collection have me dreaming of the sea!  I’m thrilled to be partnering with LBC once again, and look forward to sharing a monthly post that will feature their new releases and fun projects to inspire your creativity.

And, I have more good news!  LBC just launched their very first US warehouse!  That’s right!  Now you can order direct from Little Birdie and fill your crafty space with their beautiful flowers, papers, and mixed media supplies.  You’ll want to pop by and pay them a visit, as everything is on sale as part of their grand opening celebration.

I’m a huge fan of Little Birdie Crafts…and not just because they offer such beautiful flowers and crafting supplies.  Did you know that they employ more than 3000 rural Indian women who would otherwise be without work?  These women are now able to provide their children with an education and a future.  They also rescue abandoned baby girls (still common in India) and place them in homes where they will be loved, cared for and educated.  Little Birdie is changing the future of India, and I am proud to be associated with the brand!

Songs of the Sea Folio: The Mermaid Garden

The base of this project is a “made from scratch”  6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ box style folio.  I’ve layered up the cover with beautiful Little Birdie Flowers, chipboard and papers from the 12×12 and 6×6 Songs of the Sea Collection.

TIP: Mix and match your flowers to create this Mermaid Garden.  I’ve combined Amor Mio Heleen flowers with  Songs of the Sea Nancy and Queenie blossoms.  The white blooms add life and lighten up all the beautiful deep blues.  Tuck a few tiny starfish into the floral cascade to enhance the ocean vibe.

TIP: The focal image on this folio is cut from the cover of the 6″ x 6″ pad.  Don’t forget to check the packaging!

TIP:  Paint metal charms with chalk paint.  Then tap with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink and spritz with water to create a perfectly distressed and color matched embellishment.

TIP:  Heat emboss chipboard with Versamark Ink, then emboss with Seth Apter Baked Velvet Mediterranean Powders.  They are a great color match for this collection.  Then dry brush with a little diluted chalk paint to create this faux metal patina on the chipboard.

Songs of the Sea Folio: The Spine

Punch a hole at the top of the spine and add a lobster clasp and bangle to create a quick and easy decoration.  Netting makes a great closure for the folio.

What a way to celebrate a holiday, Kathy…a fabulous project (in blues!) and not one, but two videos. Did I mention that I already checked out the Little Birdie website before writing this comment? Couldn’t wait to see it. It’s already become one of my favorite places to purchase crafting goodies online. The products are wonderful and the current sale prices are irresistible. Like everything you showed about your folio, especially the cover design. Your enthusiasm for this project and the products is infectious. tfs-Hugs.

It’s nice to know that this company is employing so many women, great for them over in India. Makes me feel even better if I find these papers and purchase some. Love the blues Kathy. Mermaids are now and always will be, a lot of peoples favourite thing. 🙂 Thank you for all the tips 🙂 Enjoy your day.

Well this folio is just extraordinary! OMG I don’t know where to begin but I’ll just say I’ve never seen a prettier one. Oh those blues and images of the mermaids are so lovely and calming. I can hear the ocean roar and the mermaids sing! Your embellishments and charms are so lovely and perfect for the theme. I really like the turtle and nautilus you have added to the spine. And of course the inside is just as gorgeous and filled with such sweet surprises as usual! Thank you for sharing this beauty! Hugs!

I usually start my morning looking at your design-of-the-day because it makes me happy. But today was the exception – I was ECSTATIC! Today was a trifecta: Lovely blues and a mermaid with those lovely embellishments and TEA. But it gets better because I took a trip down memory lane remembering this lovely TV shows with acques-Yves Cousteau. But as I scrolled down to make my comments I took the side trip to your video about Little Birdie. Oh my; thank you Kathy for introducing me to them. You have provided so many new experiences and tips for which I want to say how much joy you have given me and I am sure many others.
