Mixed Media Fun with Coastal Escape View Dies, 3D Embossing, and P13 Sea la Vie!

Hello, Friends!  Today we’re going to have some Mixed Media Fun with Coastal Escape View Dies from Spellbinders.  Pull your crafting apron out of the closet and get ready to get inky!

Whether you’re a beach lover, a mixed media fan, interested in 3D embossing,  or a lover of red, white and blue color palettes, I think you’ll be happy with today’s Throwback Thursday tutorial.

Can I just tell you that making this card was an inky good time?  First up in today’s tutorial, I’ll show you how to create that watery fish net background with the Cast Away 3D Embossing Folder, Distress Inks, and Nuvo Mousse.

Then we’re going to dig into some fun heat embossing techniques with the Coastal Escape View Dies.  Next, we’ll put together a fun port hole shaped shaker element to adorn our card folio.  Oh, yes, friends, we are pulling out all the stops and having one big crafting adventure today!

A Peek Inside

The fun continues as we create some neat interactive elements inside this 5″ x 7″ card folio base.

This flap page opens to reveal not one, but two pockets!    Yeah, two pockets, because we’re going all-out today! Beachy projects really make me happy, and I just kept thinking, “oooh…what if I do this?”

Like, how about a pocket that is also a little pull out folio for photos and journaling?  That would be fun, right?

And what if we took a minute or more to create a lovely mixed media bookmark to go inside that pull out folio pocket?  That would also be fun, am I right?  So that is exactly what we did!  And you can learn how to do it, too, in the video tutorial below.

The mix of techniques and media have come together to tell the story about the seaside. The porthole die is a must have for the stash, it can frame so many different scenes. Your flaps and pockets inside continue the dimensional flow. Super piece Kathy, love the application of inks, spray and mousse to the folder to take it from the ordinary to the spectacular. These are techniques one can apply to a range of folder themes, well done indeed.

Everything about this art makes me think about the beach from the fun colors and nautical textures and details to the unexpected additions inside. Wave upon wave of fun, with unexpected treasures around every bend! Love this one!
