Peacock Paisley Mini Album Tutorial for Heartfelt Creations Wednesday

Hello, Friends!  Happy Heartfelt Creations Wednesday!  This week, we are introducing the luxurious and exotic Peacock Paisley Collection of stamps, dies and papers.  Here are the official release notes:

Brighten your world with the sparkling colors and mesmerizing motifs of Peacock Paisley, the exquisite spring release from Heartfelt Creations. This lush collection sparkles with jewel tones of topaz, sapphire, amber, emerald and turquoise. The artistic flair of exotic peacocks, intricate paisleys, frilled feathers and delightful daisies will captivate your imagination and energize your creativity. Six sumptuous sets of intricately designed, deeply etched red rubber stamps are the perfect companions to a vibrant paper collection that is overflowing with card fronts, cut apart pages, vivid artwork, pre-designed layouts and beautifully layered backgrounds. The Delightful Daisy Die cuts 7 perfect floral layers with one pass through your cutting system. Whether you want to preserve life’s most beautiful moments, create with mixed media techniques or design keepsake cards, you’ll be proud as a peacock to present the sophisticated elegance of Peacock Paisley.

To celebrate the release, I created this Peacock Paisley Mini Album.

Peacock Paisley Album 01a

This hand bound mini album measures about 9.5″ x 5.5″.  It has a chipboard cover that has been bound with burlap and decorated with Delightful Daisies and a host of papers and stamps from the Peacock Paisley Collection.  You’ll find a complete supply list and detailed tutorial below.

Peacock Paisley Album 10aThe Delightful Daisy stamps and dies are easy to work with because all the flower and die layers are on one stamp/die so you can make a bunch of these all at the same time.  You can layer them, or keep them to one layer, as I have done here.

Peacock Paisley Album 03aHere’s a look at the binding for the album.  I had never made a hidden hinge album before, so I used these YouTube videos as my guide.

There are lots of tutorials for this binding, but I found these to be the clearest and easiest to follow.

Peacock Paisley Album 05Each two page spread in the album has room to mount photos, or hidden journaling tags in pockets, fold out pages, or flip pages.  Although this is not a large album in size, it can hold a tremendous number of photos.  I’ve used 3/8″ Jade Double Faced Satin Ribbon and Iridescent White Metallic String throughout the album.  The stamped images are all water colored with Distress Markers and a detail water brush.  The sentiments are hand written.

Peacock Paisley Album 14a

Here, I’ve used the Feathered Peacock stamp and emboss/resist technique to create a pocket page.  Photo mounts were cut with the Cut, Mat, Create dies and tucked into the pocket.  The chipboard pages are all made from an up-cycled corrugate cereal box, sanded, painted with Peacock Feathers Distress Paint and then sponged with Viva Decor Copper Stamp Paint.

Peacock Paisley Album 08I die cut the center from one of the card fronts and used it as the focal for this pocket page.

Here we have another pocket page, and a fun flip page for mounting photos.

The page on the right opens to reveal a fun little flip album with a pocket at the back.  When the page turns…

Peacock Paisley Album 18aThere’s another pocket page with a fun fold out for photos.

I enjoyed watercoloring the beautiful stamps in this collection.

Here’s another pocket page that folds open to reveal additional space for photos.

You could add hidden journaling here or just mount photos.

Peacock Paisley Album 25The final page features another pocket with photo mount inserts.  And just look at that gorgeous paisley designer paper on the very last page.  Room for even more photos!

I think I managed to use every single stamp in this gorgeous collection, and lots and lots of the paper, too.  What do you see yourself making with these gorgeous goodies?

I’m so glad you stopped by today!  I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

Cheerio,

kathy

Directions: Follow the Hidden Hinge Binding video tutorial at http://youtu.be/nUtkJ9u6M6w to create the hidden hinge binding.

Follow the tutorial at http://youtu.be/rjwelNWp33M to find directions for making the cover.

Make your cover from medium weight chipboard cut to measure 18 3/4″ x 5 3/8″. Score on the long side, 8″ in from each side and gently fold at the score line to create the spine for your album. Cut a 22″ x 8″ piece of white burlap and cover the album as shown in the cover video. Use the paisley paper to line the inside of the album. Add the metal corners.

For the hinge: Cut your cardstock to 8 1/2″ x 5″ and assemble as shown in the video. Cut a 4 5/8″ x 7″ strip of handmade paper and line the spine of your cover as shown in the video. Punch 3 evenly spaced holes in the spine and insert the copper brads, as shown. Use Scor-Tape to insert the hinged binding into the album, as shown in the video.

Decorating the cover: I used the lace border die cut from gold metallic cardstock and layered it up with a framed card front and real peacock feathers. Stamp several sets of Delightful Daisies using all three colors of the Distress Ink. Heat Emboss, shape, paint with Distress Crackle paint and use throughout the album. Decorate your album cover as desired.

To Create the Inner Pages: Cut FOUR 7 1/2″ x 5″ rectangles from a corrugate cereal box (or use medium weight chipboard). Cut ONE 7 1/2″ x 3 3/4″ rectangle from the box. Sand the edges of the cereal box and then paint with Peacock Feathers Distress Paint. Tap the edges with Viva Décor Copper Stamp Paint. Once the pages are decorated, insert into the prepared hinge, following the instructions in the videos.

Cut TEN Night of Navy rectangles: 7″ x 4″. Cut SIX Night of Navy Rectangles: 7″ x 3 1/4″. Cut TEN White Parchment Rectangles: 6 3/4″ x 3 3/4″. Cut TEN tags from Pool Party Cardstock using the Luggage and Tags die. Die cut TWELVE photo mount panels using the 4 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ die from Cut, Mat, Create 2-B.

To create the pocket pages, cut a thumb hole in either the top or the side of one of your prepared panels. Glue onto your base panel so that one edge is left open on either the top, left or right hand side. Insert tags or photo mounts into the opening.

For the flip pages: Use three of the 7″ x 3 1/4” Night of Navy Rectangles to form flip pages. On the long side, score one panel at 6 1/2″. Score the next panel at 6″. Leave the third panel as is. Fold the rectangles along the score line and tuck each tab underneath the unscored panel, gluing them in place. Use the punch to create thumbholes on the right hand side of the first two panels. Decorate the edges with strips of paper from the collection. Glue onto the 7 1/2″ x 3 3/4″ corrugate panel.

For the fold out pages: Score one of the 7″ x 4″ Night of Navy panels at 6 1/2″. Fold along the score, and tuck the tab under the right hand side of another Night of Navy panel. Glue in place. Cut a thumb hole on the right hand side of your designer paper or stamped image and glue the top, bottom and left hand side onto the top Navy panel. Insert a journaling tag into the pocket. Add a matted border strip on the left. Open the navy panel and glue the white parchment panels inside the fold out page, and stamp as desired. Insert into the prepared album as shown.
