Photoplay Serendipity Pop Up Birthday Card Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  It’s Make & Take Tuesday, and I have an adorable Photoplay Serendipity Pop Up Birthday Card Tutorial to share with you.  This vibrant collection has a fresh, modern vibe that makes it perfect for an upbeat birthday greeting.

Our middle son’s birthday is in a few days, so I designed this card with him in mind. When Andrew was a toddler, we played a little game every night after dinner.  He would snuggle up in my lap and I would say to him, “You’re my little strawberry shortcake.”  Then he would say, “You’re my little apple pie.”

And the game would go on an on, each of us naming a favorite sweet treat in turn until one of us either repeated a dessert that had already been named or could not come up with a new idea for a treat.  Many times we changed the name of the dessert by adding the words, “with a cherry on top.”  That was the inspiration for this card design.

A Cherry on Top

This collection is what I call “happy paper.” We’ll take a little tour of the collection and all the ephemera bits that are available before we make the card together.  I know how much you enjoy getting a sneak peek of new collections.

TIP: Try adding a circle or circular shapes to a square card and see what happens.  The rounded edges soften the harder edges of the card base, and they help to make the focal image stand out.

A Peek Inside

And here’s the pop up!  I’ll share my quick and easy, fool-proof pop-up method with you in the tutorial.

How cool is it that this collection prompted such a happy memory for me?  I’m hoping Andrew will remember, too.

Kathy, What a sweet, sweet story about your son. He is really going to love this card. It’s one of the cutest birthday cards I’ve seen. I love the riot of colors and the cherry theme. The candle on the front is awesome. You always add the coolest embellishments! Thank you for sharing! Hugs!

This is a cheerful and fun card and I enjoyed the video. I struggle with adding stickers and ephemera to a card so this tutorial was a good lesson in how you use them on a different style card. I absolutely love your vintage folios and albums but having something a little different was refreshing especially something as bright and charming as this card. I’m sure your son is going to enjoy it. I do have a couple questions for you if you don’t mind. It seems like your creativity flows very smoothly so I’m wondering if creating your beautiful projects always comes easy for you? Have you ever had trouble with perfectionism? . Thank you Kathy!

Bright, fun, and plenty to find and touch on this abfab card! Yonks ago I made a dress, shift, fitted with a fabric design of cherries. It was so sad the day it finally became scrap. We have fresh cherries at Christmas time and they are always on the dining table that day. Kathy, it is so windy, we are tucked away and I am doing art, a folio called The Sawmill. I hope you are managing a few minutes in the sun in between creating.
PS I think my boxes from The Creative Studio (your inspiration) are waiting for me the next time we go to town, happy days!
