Prima Georgia Blues Fancy Fold Birthday Card

Prima Georgia Blues Fancy Fold Birthday Card for Frilly Funkie Inspired by Challenge

Hello Friends!  Welcome to the first Frilly and Funkie Challenge of 2019!  I’ve got an elegant Prima Georgia Blues Fancy Fold Birthday Card to share with you today.  But before we take a peek at it, let’s see what Cec, our lovely hostess for the challenge, has to say about the theme and guidelines.

Challenge Theme: Inspired By
I don’t have access to quality craft classes locally so I spend time online to learn new things. For this challenge I want you to create a vintage or shabby chic project inspired by or using a technique or tutorial that you have found online. You must provide a link to the site that is inspiring your creation and please do not make a direct copy of anything you found.
Georgia Blues Fancy Fold Birthday Card: The Inspiration

Prima Georgia Blues Fancy Fold Birthday Card by Kathy Clement for The Funkie Junkie Boutique Photo 01

Nothing beats a really good fancy fold card.    I found this fancy fold card YouTube tutorial by the amazing Ginny Nemchak, who just happens to be my best online buddy.  It’s a really fun “card within a card” kind of design.   While I followed Ginny’s basic tutorial, I did change up the design, putting my own “KBD” spin on it.

Georgia Blues Fancy Fold Birthday Card: The Basics

This is a 6″ x 6″ side fold card base made from 100# cream cardstock.  The flap mechanism on the front of the card measures 4″ x 4″.  I changed up Ginny’s design by adding a 1/2″ spine to both the card base and the flap mechanism.  Designer paper is matted with both Blue Yonder and After Midnight cardstock layers.

Georgia Blues Fancy Fold Birthday Card: The Details

Here’s how I put this card focal together:

  • First, select the image from the Georgia Blues 4″ x 6″ Journal Card pack.
  • Next, trim about 1/4″ off each side of the image so it will fit neatly on the card flap mechanism.
  • Now, use a corner punch to shape the corners.
  • Then ink the edges with Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink.
  • Mat the image on cardstock.  Punch the cardstock corners to match.
  • Wrap the bottom edge of the image with gold metallic string.  Tie a knot, then string some tiny metal keys onto the ends of the string.  Tie a bow.

TIP: Cut a tiny slit in the side of the paper where you plan to wrap your string.  It will hold the the first layer of twine in place,  making it easier for you to keep everything neat and tidy.

  • Now die cut a Spellbinder Wreath from Gold Metallic Paper.  Cut foam tabs to fit the leaves and adhere around the sentiment area.
  • Add small flowers from Georgia Blues with hot glue.
  • Tie a bow, top with gold metallic string and add more flowers.

Georgia Blues Fancy Fold Birthday Card: A Peek Inside

Opening this card is lots of fun.  Each fold reveals something new to look at.

Here’s the card, fully opened.

You all know how much I love pockets.   I created a little box style pocket in the very center.  And there’s room to write a note on the right hand flap.

I used a 3″ x 4″ Journal card as a mat for this mini chocolate treat.  Then I used my scraps to create a little notepad to tuck inside the pocket.

I’ve also got room to add a gift card here, which makes the card a gift.

Now it’s YOUR Turn

Kathy, I’ve been staring at this Fancy Fold Card/Gift for two days now! I am in love with the papers brought to life on every panel. The card front is gorgeous and I love that corner punch. The metallic gold wreath is a clever accent and as always your beautiful flowers are placed perfectly. The pocket on the inside with the notepad and yummy chocolate matted on even more gorgeous card is such a great surprise. (Why should I still be surprised every time I ‘open’ one of your cards?) once again, you have knocked it out of the ballpark with your fantastic creativity! Sending hugs!
