At our house, the holidays include lots of baking. I have a whole file folder that is bulging with nothing but special recipes that I make only at Christmas! It is torn, stained and frankly, pretty disreputable looking. So, when I was out “junkin” one Saturday and found this cute little recipe box for a DIME, I brought it home with the intention of altering it to hold all those holiday recipes. And into the Closet of Shame it went. And languished. Until…I got these ribbons and knew exactly what I would do with them! Check it out:
Ta-da! Here;s my nifty new holiday recipe box. I can leave it out on the counter and it will totally look like Christmas decor, dontcha think?
I used Graphic 45’s new “Twas the Night Before Christmas” papers to cover the box. The flower is made with the Spellbinder’s Poinsettia Die and then tapped with Viva Decor Carmine Red Stamp Paint. Here’s how this box looked before it’s magical Christmas Ribbon makeover:
When altering a box like this, I always sand the surfaces lightly so that paint and adhesives will hold better. I primed the surface using white chalk paint, inked the edges and then layered on my papers. It took about an afternoon to complete.
The box came with matching (ugly) index cards, so I transformed them as well:
When I decorated the top of the box, I added some sprays of the beautiful new Bead Berry Sprays that Bonnie has added to the shop. They really finished off the decor and they are sooooo pretty!
OK, time to get hopping! The final stop on this hop is the Really Reasonable Ribbon BLOG. Once you’ve visited all the blogs below, go answer Bonnie’s secret question of the month and you’ll be entered to win your own package of beautiful Christmas ribbon! Here’s a link to all the blogs along the way, just in case you got lost.
