Santa Claus is Watching Shaker Card with Kaisercraft Frosted

Hello, Friends!  You know that saying, “Make new friends, but keep the old?”  Well, I’ve been making friends with some of the older collections in my stash.  This Santa Claus is Watching Shaker Card is made with Kaisercraft’s Frosted Collection.  (See more Frosted HERE.) I was thrilled to find that I still had quite a lot of these lovely blue and white papers, so I went to work creating some sweet Christmas goodies that I’ll be sharing with you all this month.  Since I love shaker cards and vintage Santa images, this shaker card might be my favorite.

This card may look complicated, but it’s actually a super simple design.  The secret to its success is the shaker element and the gorgeous florals from Little Birdie Crafts.

• Begin by creating a 5″ x 7″ side fold card from ivory cardstock.
• Then cut a 4 7/8″ x 6 7/8″ panel of Silver Sparkle Cardstock from My Favorite Things.
• Next cut a 4 5/8″  x 6 5/8″ panel of the Vintage Santa pattern from Frosted.  Stitch this to the Silver Sparkle Cardstock.

That’s it…one layer of designer paper stitched to a layer of glitter cardstock.  I love this Silver Sparkle paper because the glitter is sealed into the paper, so nothing flakes off.  It’s wonderful stuff.

Santa Claus is Watching Shaker Card: The Shaker Element

Use a blending tool to cover a  3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ Tim Holtz Vignette Frame with Iced Spruce Distress Oxide Ink.  You will have to really grind that ink into the crevices.  Then spray the frame with Brushed Pewter Distress Stain Spray.

TIP:  Place the frame in an old box before spraying for easy clean-up.

Heat dry the frame.  Then use a palette knife to add Ranger Opaque Crackle Texture Paste along the edges to resemble snow.  While the texture paste is still wet, sprinkle it with Distress Clear Rock Candy Dry Glitter.  Then set the window aside to dry for a while.

Next, cut (2) 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ panels of clear acrylic cardstock.   When the frame is completely dry, adhere one piece on the back of the frame.  Then add 2 layers of foam tape along the edges of the frame, making sure the tape does not show through the window, or on the sides. Fill this space with sequins, beads or whatever you like.  then seal it with the second piece of clear acrylic cardstock.

You will then glue this whole assembly over Santa’s face.  Let it set up completely before you continue.

TIP:  to hide the white sides of the foam tape beneath the frame, I wrapped the perimeter with 1/4″ black gingham ribbon.  Tie a bitty bow on top.

Santa Claus is Watching Shaker Card: The Flowers and Ribbon

I arranged an assortment of Little Birdie Flowers along the side of the frame.  These are painted with Ranger Grit-Paste and sprinkled with Rajni Chawla’s Frosted Glitter.  The flowers I used are: Sangria English Roses, Paulina Candy Mix, and Audria Passion 9 Pc.  The ribbon is tied with RRR Black Plaid.

I picked up this chipboard sentiment at a crafty stash sale.  It was already painted red, but to give it a bit more holiday sparkle, I brushed on some Xmas Red Stickles.

Here’s a look at the inside.  A cute little pocket made from a postcard and a little chocolate treat!  Santa must have this person on his nice list!
