Seaside Summer Mixed Media Tag

Seaside Summer Mixed Media Tag for Frilly & Funkie “In the Good Old Summertime” Challenge

Hello, Friends!  I have the privilege of hosting the new challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie Blog.   I’ve prepared a lovely Seaside Summer Mixed Media tag to share with you today, but first, let’s take a look at the challenge theme, shall we?

In the Good Old Summertime Challenge

It’s time for those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.  Whether you vacation at the beach, in the mountains, or enjoy a relaxing “Staycation” in your own back yard, your challenge is to create a vintage or shabby chic project that shows what you love best about summer.  Use summer colors in your project, and be sure to tell us in your post what you love about summer, and how you’ve represented that in your project.

My favorite place to be in the summer (or anytime, really) is at the beach.  Our family has taken a week at the beach together for over 25 years now.  The beach is where we go to relax, unwind and bond as a family.

One of the things I love the most about the beach is the amazing range of colors.  I tried to incorporate those soft sandy tans, blues, greens and golds by using Distress Oxide inks on this jumbo manila tag background.

I added embossing, some collage work and lots of different mediums to try and capture all the various textures found at the shore.

Kathy, I have been itching to get over here all day to see how this came together, and I’m sooo happy you made the snap guide! I loved reading all the steps to see how you made each element, and then seeing how you built up your collage. That seahorse is the bee’s knees, but your creativity tops it all! Love, love, LOVE this layered tag! So inspiring! Sending hugs!

FAB-U-LOUS!!! I love this super shabby tag with all the gorgeous elements you have added but the seahorse is my absolute favourite with the fun flowers a close second. A trip to the beach would be lovely right about now but since that isn’t happening I will just look at your tag and dream.
    Hugs!

This is so very gorgeous Kathy! I love the use of EF and gorgeous inks that blend your elements together. The seahorse is so cool and love your use of the flowers and layered tags. Hugs, Autumn

Love this tag Kathy. Really do. I am not and never have been a beach person, mainly cause there is usually no shade trees. I do enjoy the lakes around here tho’ as there are trees! 🙂 Don’t get me wrong, I love to see the sun, but being fair, the sun does not like me. 🙂 Thanks for sharing this lovely little masterpiece!!!

No worries, Catherine! There are so many different ways to spell Kathy that it happens all the time! I just appreciate the fact that you took time to comment! xo

Kathy, this tag is awesome. The detailed mixed media work just shouts “summer at the sea”. My mind is already making lists of the media needed to create similar tags on a variety of seasonal themes. Thanks so much for sharing this masterpiece!
