Season of Joy Altered Mirror
Every once in a while, I create a project that just makes my heart sing. This Season of Joy altered mirror came together almost effortlessly. Although there is a lot of detail and layering, it was actually quite simple to make. You can find a complete supply list and detailed tutorial on the Heartfelt Creations blog. But I have lots of photos and little side notes to share with you here.
I began with a 10×10 mirror that I found at my local thrift store for 99 cents. It is from IKEA, and when I looked it up on their website, I was amazed to learn that you can buy these at the store for just a little bit more than what I paid at my local thrift shop. These are great for altering, because they are a simple shape and easy to cover. Sometimes, I paint these, but this time I used a sheet of the soft grey print from the Frosty Blanket paper collection.
This release is well-named, because the stamps and dies are a JOY to work with!
The soft color palette of the paper collection allows you to embellish with almost any colors that would match your holiday decor. (Please ignore the paper that’s lining the mirror. I couldn’t get a photo of the mirror without getting a picture of myself in it, so I just covered it over. In real life, the paper is not there!)
Loved how easy it was to create the cluster of pine cones with this Elegant Joy PreCut set! I also used it to create the title.
I added a pearl swag at the base of the mirror to compliment the pearls and lace that surround the mirror opening.
It only took an afternoon to complete this Season of Joy altered mirror from start to finish. These would make great hostess gifts or teacher gifts for the holidays, don’t you think? They’d also be lovely on a mantle along with a tea light candle to reflect off the mirror glass. I think I’m going to make a few more of these for presents, but don’t tell anyone!
You can check in on the rest of my design team friends by clicking on the links in the sidebar. Or, you can visit the Heartfelt Creations blog and see all the projects in one spot. I’ll be back tomorrow with a card that I made using this same collection. It’s one of my favorite holiday cards I’ve ever made.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by the blog today, and thanks for all your kind comments. They make me happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers. Until next time….
Cheerio,
kathy
You really to excel in the 3 dimensional and mixed media world, Kathy! This frame IS beautiful; it is full of wonderful detail and yet not overdone. I love the ribbon and the snowflakes punched in gold. And the mirror was definitely a fab find!
