Simple Stories Vintage Woodlands Banner Tutorial: Using Ephemera to Build a Scene

Hello, Friends!  Today’s Simple Stories Vintage Woodlands Banner Tutorial is going to use ephemera pieces to build a scene.  It’s such a quick and easy way to decorate your banner pennants!  I think you’ll look at  your ephemera pieces in a whole new way after we make this banner together.

A Walk in the Woods

Growing up in New England, I enjoyed many a ramble through the woods.  No matter the season, the woods around our home offered a never ending array of beauty.  In winter,  the ground was  covered in blankets of snow that softened the landscape.  In springtime, fresh green buds came bursting onto the scene along with happy songbirds back from their winter migration.

Summertime offered deep green leave that whispered gossip beneath a crystal blue sky.  But fall?  Fall was the best season of all to traipse along pine strewn paths as vibrant leaves softly fell to the ground.  You might spot a chipmunk peeping out from behind a fallen log.  Or on a very good day, you might even see a deer.

I tried to capture the wonder of those woodland walks in today’s banner.

The Shaker Element

This shaker frame was also quick and easy to make.  I’ll show you how in the video tutorial below.

Graphic 45 Tag and Pocket Dies

Have you discovered that the Graphic 45 Tag and Pocket Dies make wonderful banner pennants?  That shaped edge adds a great deal of charm to the banner design.

TIP:  Cut the pocket base from cardstock.  Don’t fold as you would to make a pocket.  For a perfect fit on the liner paper, cut the pocket base from patterned paper.  Then trim 1/8″ from the left and right hand sides and 1/4″ from the top edge.  This fits the cardstock base perfectly, and eliminates the need to trim out that tricky bottom piece.
