Spellbinders Amazing Paper Grace Dahlia Dimensional Doily Die of the Month April 2021
Hello, Friends! Today’s post features a fun fold card made with Spellbinders Amazing Paper Grace Dahlia Dimensional Doily. This is the April 2021 Die of the Month, and it’s a beauty! If you love gatefold cards and delicate filigree designs, then I think you will love this card design. Before we dig in, here’s a look at the dies in this months’ club:
In addition to the gorgeous filigree panel, you get the dimensional dahlia dies, rolled roses, leaves and a lacy insert. I opted to work with just the filigree panel, rolled roses and leaves this time.
Presenting the Gatefold Easel Fancy Fold Card Design
Easel cards are the “show-offs” of the cardmaking world, wouldn’t you agree? Simple to make, but visually impacting, easel cards look great on display! Gatefold cards have a high drama factor. Open the doors of this fancy fold to see what delights await within. I make a lot of both styles of cards for these reasons. I don’t think I have ever combined the two fancy fold card style before. But I immediately saw how this lovely die could marry the two styles together to make fabulous fancy fold card design. So, I present to you the Dahlia Dimensional Doily Gatefold Easel Card.
Here’s how to put this unique fun fold card together.
- First, create a 6×6 easel card base.
- Now die cut the filigree panels from pink cardstock.
- Then adhere the panels over brushed gold cardstock.
- Next, trim the gold cardstock so that you have an extra 1/2″ of gold on the left and the right hand sides.
- Now score a flap on each side.
- Cut between the two filigree panels to create a gate fold.
- Wrap the flaps behind a 5″ x 7″ card front.
- Then wrap a ribbon closure around the entire assembly and adhere to the front of the easel card base.
Open the Gates!
When you open the gate fold, this is what is waiting inside. Decorate the inside of the gates with vellum versions of the die.
Rolled Roses
This elegant set comes with 2 sizes of rolled rose dies. I’ve used them on the pocket/brake area and on the gatefold door sentiment.
A Peek Inside
Here’s a peek inside the easel card base. Add a pocket to the bottom half of the card to serve as a stopper/brake for the easel mechanism. This gives you room to tuck in a little gift card wallet/note card.
I can see this die used for many different purposes. It would make a gorgeous bookmark. You could cut it from heavy cardstock and use it as a stencil. Or add the dimensional dahlia to the center. My eyes are drawn to all those artfully placed flat back pearls…a tedious embellishment that always makes a gigantic difference…adds a nice level of emphasis to a design element! Thanks for posting this very interesting card. I would not have combined these 2 card types together on my own…too much thinking within the box!
You and Becca are the dynamic duo! Love, Love you design and fabulous colors. Ah, that stitching makes such a great element. Having the gate design on both inside and outside of folds is so pretty. And, you are so right that element can be used as a panel, album spine, cut out on a box, to decorate an envelope liner and so many other ideas. I could never free hand cutting the flower design so having the die is so much easier. And I have to say, you always make any flower shine and look so gorgeous. I am admitting that I enjoyed a second cuppa so I could gaze upon this amazing make a second time; Okay, Okay, it was three times. Made my heart smile today, Kathy.

I love the card Kathy! For me I think the flowers are just amazing. I’ve tried making them by just cutting a circle & cutting like it shows, but what a mess. The dies would absolutely make it worth getting. Beautiful make my dear. Hope your Easter was grande. I was ok here & cooked the usual Easter meal for myself. Now I can get to enjoy the leftovers. Wow Kathy, the combination of a gatefold and easel is fantastic! This die is so beautiful. The filigree is amazing and always dresses a card up so beautifully.
