Spellbinders December 2020 Club Kits Blog Hop: Roses in December Shaker Card
Hello, Friends! Welcome to the Spellbinders December 2020 Club Kits Blog Hop! You should be coming here from Hussena’s lovely blog.
Roses in December
There’s an old saying: “God gives us memories that we might have roses in December.” That thought inspired this Roses in December Shaker card made with the Amazing Paper Grace Rose Garden Promise Dies from the 2020 APG Club Kit.
I chose a soft, neutral color palette to create a sense of serenity and nostalgia within the card design. Here’s how this card front came together:
- First, die cut the shaker frame from patterned paper. Use the Tool-in-One to clear out all the little chads.
- Now, lightly swipe the edges of the die cut frame with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.
- Then cut a 5″ x 7″ piece of clear cardstock (acetate or clear acrylic) and adhere to the back side of the frame with a strong liquid adhesive.
TIP: Apply the adhesive in a thin bead. Then spread it either with your finger or a toothpick. This step will help prevent the adhesive from oozing out onto the clear cardstock.
- Next, back the edges of the frame with 1/8″ foam tape. I like to use 3 layers so that I can place larger elements like buttons and pearls into my shaker mix.
- Now choose a 5″ x 7″ panel of designer paper to serve as the card front.
- Then choose an image to sit in the center of that panel.
TIP: Find the perfect placement for your focal image. Place the metal die over your card background and lightly trace guide lines using a pencil. Now you know exactly where to adhere your focal image.
Now you only need to fill the shaker frame with your mix of buttons, beads and sequins. Press the prepared card front over the foam adhesive and press in place. Embellish the card with ribbon, creamy roses and your embellishments of choice.
A Peek Inside
Turn this card into a gift and a folio by adding a pocket and an accordion style photo album.
Provide room for journaling spots and even a gift card pocket, if desired.
The box pocket on the bottom half of the card is the perfect spot to add a little Tea Party for One. Create another mini folio from your scraps. Then wrap it with a belly band. Tuck a vintage demitasse spoon, tea bag, and mini candy cane into the belly band. Wrap cookies in a scrap of designer paper to dress them up. Then tuck in a mini honey dipper and a honey stick to complete the ensemble.
Here’s a look at the folio with the belly band removed.
Santa thinks you were very, very good this year, as this chocolate assortment proves. The folio flips open again with room for additional photos. You can write little greetings on the tiny tag, too.

Gorgeous card. I really like the vintage wintery feel your card has. The barn picture just fit perfectly in the window. Beautiful.
Kathy, what an absolutely gorgeous card. It’s so elegant! The cabin scene in the shaker frame is so beautiful and the “snow” elements are just perfect. This die set is just amazing and so versatile. Of course the inside of of this lovely creation is full of beautiful surprises as always. Thank you for sharing! Hugs!
Your cards are always so beautiful and have some kind of unique twist to inspire us ! I love that saying especially as I get older. That Santa in the base of the folio is awesome! Is it part of the same Amazing Paper Grace set? He is precious.
Amazing–the first card is simply gorgeous and elegant. The 2nd card–filled with chocolate-oh my! Who doesn’t love chocolate, the card idea is terrific. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my gosh my golly I love this. What a wonderful magical folio! The inside is unexpected from the very vintage front! Wonderful creation!
Your card is very different from what everyone else has done. I love it for its wintry look and its ‘old-world’ feel. So different but very delightful. Thanks for giving us new ideas for using this kit. 🙂
I just love your shaker!! Didn’t think to make the whole front a shaker! Great idea and am in love with all of your vintage embellishments and add-ons! And that fabulous spoon of course!!
OMG! ALL YOUR EMBELLISHMENTS ARE just INCREDIBLE! I Love the vintage papers!
Wow! Your cards are amazing! I love all the texture, dimension and embellishments! Your recipients must adore your creations!
Gorgeous project with so many beautiful details! I love the die you used for your frame panel!
Gershwin said it best, “‘S wonderful ! ‘S marvelous !” My eye popped out at this creation; you took it to the moon! I had not heard that “old saying” before but it certainly inspired a masterpiece. The placement of roses in December, backdrop and rose color is perfection and definitely so different than most of us would have created.
I didn’t even peek at the inside first for a look at the treats; I was so just so enamored of the cover. (And you thought I wouldn’t mention the goodies inside, silly lady. Oh my, mouth is watering; luckily I had a cookie or two in the cupboard. Key word being past tense…)
You are the Queen and a wonderful artist. Thanks for the visual treat.
Wow! These cards are amazing!
Wowza! What a beautiful card! The flowers are so elegant!
I like the quiet sophistication this die creates on this card. I think I would skip the shaker feature on this one. Very thought provoking saying I’ve not heard before, but do appreciate. Your ink distressing of the inner frame really makes a difference…draws my eyes to the center image. Beautiful!
I love, love, love the first shaker card. And I never have heard the old saying before. Such a beautiful thought.
Your vintage card shows how different this die can look in different designs. Lovely!
