Spellbinders November 2020 Club Kits Blog Hop: APG Poinsettia Sleigh with Stamperia Winter Tales

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the Spellbinders November 2020 Club Kits Blog Hop.  You should be coming here from  Jennifer’s lovely blog.   The Amazing Paper Grace 3-D Pop Up Vignette Poinsettia Sleigh is the focal point on this frosty easel style card.  There is so much to love about this festive APG Club Kit!  The darling sleigh, gorgeous etched poinsettia dies, cute gift box and holiday greenery dies make this Club Kit a must have!

Growing up in Vermont, where the ground was covered in wintry white, the whole landscape would turn a particular shade of blue when dusk would fall.  We called it “blue dark”.  And that’s the scene I tried to re-create in this 6″ x 6″ easel style card made with Stamperia’s Winter Tales paper collection.

Details, Tips and Tricks

TIP:  Create depth and dimension in your background.  Cut a 6″ x 12″ piece of Winter Tales into 3 sections: the night sky, the tree line, and the foreground.  Then layer the three sections together with foam dimensionals between them.

TIP: Die cut the sleigh base from patterned paper.  Then die cut the insert and trims from silver metallic paper to create a frosty winter sleigh.  Brush the sleigh runners with Art Institute Dries Clear Adhesive, then sprinkle with Crystal Clear Glitter Flakes.  This adds an icy finish to the sleigh.

TIP: Create a pocket inside the card to serve as the stopper for the easel.  Score an extra 1/2″ on the easel card base to make a 1/2″ spine.  This way, you can add a fun surprise inside the card.

TIP:  Die cut some poinsettias from scraps of your designer paper.  Then die cut more from solid colored cardstock.  Add texture to the petals with a brush of ivory chalk paint.  Then fill the centers with Prills and Pearls. Now die cut foliage from silver metallic cardstock.  Then brush some of it with Dries Clear Adhesive. Next, sprinkle with more glitter to give it the appearance of icy branches. Now you are ready to pile up all these beautiful posies and fill the sleigh to the brim with Christmas cheer!

A Peek Inside

Now you can see the pocket on the inside of the card.  This is a lovely place to tuck in a note card and a little surprise.

Now,  die cut a second sleigh just as you did the first one. Next, adhere a length of metallic string between the layers.  Now, top it with a bow and poinsettia cluster.  Voila! You have a little ornament to give as a small gift.

Write a personal greeting or tuck a gift card into this little note card.

Oh my gosh! Your projects are always over the top and this one is fabulous! I love the blues that you used. I am inspired to use blue when I get my sleigh set! And I would never have thought to use the sleigh to make a little hanging ornament….yippee!

  2. Cindy H.

I can’t even!! Wow!! Stunning!! You captured “blue dark” perfectly!! We get that in Michigan too but I never had a name for it. One of my fav things about winter. Crisp snowy air and glistening snowbanks. Love it! TYFS ❤️

Oh my! My Mother would have drooled over your sleigh card! I dislike like the color blue, but when I envision your card in any other color, I am drooling too. Did it take as much time to create as it looks? I love the pocket with the sleigh ornament tucked inside.

    WHOA, that’s not a card, that’s a GIFT! If I received that as a card I wouldn’t know how to respond, it’d be like…”oh, here’s a turkey” … cause I’d be STUNNED!
If I could think of beautiful things like that, I’d open a shop or something…wow…
STUNNING is the only word I could think of!

I truly love this card Kathy. The blue is just beautiful. You mentioned you grew up in VT! Where? I’ve lived in Winooski for about 45 years! Be safe, hugs & TYFS

  6. Cyndi Morris

Gorgeous! That scene is stunning. Here in Texas we seldom see snow, so I envy you folks who see the ground covered in snow at Christmas.

Your card is a masterpiece and I’m sure those that recieve your cards treasure them as works of art. Not only did you create a beautiful card with the APG die but an ornament too. You are a card artist.

Kathy, you captured “blue dark” perfectly! I love beautiful snowy scenes. That paper collection is so gorgeous and wintery. The sleigh, ribbons, flowers and jingle bells are the perfect embellishments. I can just envision sitting by the fire in that little cabin in the woods drinking a cup of hot chocolate. Absolutely stunning card! Thank you for sharing! Hugs!

Brrr! Can you feel the chill in the air that the blue/silver combo evokes? No frost on the pumpkins but there is on the sleigh’s bells.

Omgosh, you are in full Christmas crafting mode and the result is such beautiful inspiring work! Thanks for the creative kick the pants to get me stated. Now if only I had my die in hand to create while the iron’s hot!
