Tammy Tutterow Five for Friday: Suck it Up Buttercup!

Hello, Friends!  Happy Friday!  We should all get a big pat on the back for making it through another week!  Is anyone besides me dreaming of spring?  I had a yearning to play with flowers and buttons and burlap the other day, so I pulled out my Tammy Tutterow stamps and dies and went to work on creating this fun little Suck it Up Buttercup Library Pocket and Tag.  It’s bursting with happy spring flowers and a great shabby chic pink and grey color scheme.  Check it out!

The Library Card Pocket is one of Tammy’s awesome steel rule dies.  These are such fun to work with because they can cut through so many different materials.  I used pale pink burlap to create my library pocket.  Before die cutting, I backed the burlap with iron on interfacing to prevent fraying.  The steel rule die cut through it like buttah.  Handy score lines allowed me to put the pocket together in a flash.  (Note: this die requires the use of a Big Shot Plus or a Spellbinders Platinum Plus or any other machine that accepts thick, 8″ wide dies.)

Pick a Pocket Full of Posie Parts

These sweet springtime posies were such fun to make with Tammy’s Posie Parts Stamp and Die set.   The set contains 9 cling foam stamps and matching thin dies that cut out each Posie Part.  Not having to fussy cut each stamped image is such a time saver!

First, I stamped the sweet Posie Parts onto patterned paper from October Afternoon’s Travel Girl Collection. Then I ran them through my Spellbinder Platinum with the matching dies. Stamping on patterned paper is quick, because you don’t have to color the images.  Since I’m not the world’s greatest colorist, I really like having the ability to do this.

After shaping each flower layer (there are 3) with a stylus, I stacked them together and added a sweet little button to the center.  I used water color pencils to add a touch of pink to the edges of the flower pot, then just assembled the whole happy bunch onto the front of the Library Card Pocket.

The little metal charm reads “Never, Never, Give Up.”  i used a Distress Crayon to color in the words, then suspended it from a vintage safety pin and added it to the simple square knot bow in my burlap ribbon.

What’s in Your Pocket?

Here’s what you’ll find in the pocket!  This little tag features Tammy’s Suck it Up Buttercup stamp.  Honestly, this is such a great sentiment for anyone who needs a gentle nudge to persevere in the face of life’s many obstacles.

The sentiment was stamped onto patterned paper using Magenta Archival Ink.  I then heat embossed it with clear powder and colored in the sentiment with water color pencils.

Next, I die cut the sentiment with a Spellbinder Scalloped Circle Nestabilities Die  For the tag base, I cut a rectangle 3.5″ x 4.5″ rectangle from primitive cream cardstock,  and rounded the corners  with a 1/4″ corner rounder.  Now it was time to assemble the tag.  Since the patterned paper I used for the sentiment was just a little bit thin, I cut a second scalloped circle from patterned paper.  Then I glued the tag base between the two die cut circles.  I think the shaped top is such a fun element on this Library Card Pocket/tag combo.

A Little Message of Encouragement

Tammy’s Mini Deco Edge Envelope was the perfect finishing touch for this cheery little pocket/tag duo.  I die cut it from patterned paper, then used the insert die to create a hand written note card with a little word of encouragement.  Stamping one of the Posie Parts and adding a button sealed the deal.
