Little Birdie Crafts Aqua Medley Summertime Blues Double Gatefold Card Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  Today I’m celebrating Summertime Blues with a Double Gatefold Card Tutorial.  Little Birdie Crafts Aqua Medley Collection is filled with dreamy shades of blue, gorgeous florals, sweet summer songbirds and delightful patterns.  I think you’re really going to enjoy this post, and add a new fancy fold design to your crafty toolbox!

The Basics

My favorite kind of fancy fold is the one that makes people say, “How did she do that?” Especially when the answer is, “It’s so easy, you won’t believe it!”  That really is the case with a double gatefold card design.  More than just a card, this 6×6 card doubles as a folio and makes a wonderful gift!

Little Birdie Primed Chipboard creates the perfect base for this gorgeous hydrangea image.  Cluster flowers, butterflies and metal embellishments around the frame to create a truly striking cover.

Look at all this gorgeous texture and dimension.  That makes my heart happy!

A Peek Inside

Opening a double gatefold card is always dramatic! Flap pages, pockets and tags add to the excitement.

Did you know Little Birdie makes a Die Cutting Machine?  I didn’t either, but as soon as I  learned about it, I added it to my tool supplies.  It is amazing!  I used it and Little Birdie Oval Tags Dies to make these precious oval tags for the side pocket.

The large center pocket holds a pull out page in place.

This is a great place to tuck in notes, small gifts and photos.

There’s even a hidden pocket page with just enough room to tuck in a bookmark.

Oh, how I love little birds!  We have a pair of bluebirds that live in our crabapple tree and every time I see them, it makes my heart happy!

The Tutorial

Are you ready to get your craft on?  I’ll begin with a short tour of the project.  Then we will dig in and create this lovely double gatefold card together.  It’s going to be so much fun!

I hope I’ve shared some tips, tricks and ideas that you can use in your own crafting adventures.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.  You’ll find a linked supply list at the bottom of this post.

    Hi Kathy:

Adorable Aqua Medley Folio card. I am thinking about buying the Little Birdie Dream Die Cutter. Do you know if most embossing folders work with the plates?

Hi, Jan! So good to hear from you, and thanks for the lovely comment. Yes, the Dream Cut works with most embossing folders. I should demo some embossing so you can see how well it works. I’m really impressed with this little machine. And, it’s so cute!

Beautiful blues!! Really amazing card/folio Kathy. I love the colours and the details for sure! YOu always amaze me with your skills 🙂 Stay well.
It’s hot here today already at 10:30 a.m. it’s nearing 80 on my back porch already. Too hot for me so we are heading to this park called Saxe Point and it’s on the ocean, so it will be nice, lots of shade and cool air.

This card just exudes happiness – we had Bluebirds at our lake place in East Texas, and loved seeing them in their houses with babies right at the door – good memories! You always create the most beautiful cards and folios ever – love everything about this card!!!

Kathy, I just love everything about this card! First, the color–need I say more? These Little Birdie products are amazing–everything is there for beautiful projects–and hydrangeas are at the top of my favorite flower list. The gatefold design with all of those pockets (and holding all of those crafted pieces) is amazing. I’ll be coming back to this tutorial again and again since Claire’s comment about “pink” has given me the idea of creating this design in a series of colors showcasing the best matching flower. Another gift in the dreaming stages? tfs the results of your wonderful talent. Stay well-Hugs.

Oh my Kathy, I just totally love love your card making skills!! Your talent is over the top. This one I believe I can make and send it in a “Happy Mail” box to a dear little girl & she will just love it. Especially with the tuck spots/pockets & of course in her favorite color “pink”. This could also be added to an album page, glue 3 sides on the back of the card and get another pocket!!
