Sweet Summer Cherries

Sweet Summer Cherries from Polly’s Paper Studio

Hello, Friends!

I love sweet summer cherries.  Our local grocery stores are loaded with them right now, and I have been enjoying them every chance I get.  So it’s only natural that I should make some sweet summer cherry themed cards with the Summer Cherry Digital Collage Download from Polly’s Paper Studio!  There are 11 images in this digital download, and I’ve chosen to highlight a few of them here.

Kathy by Design/ Sweet Cherries 01aI paired the digital image from Polly’s up with pretty prints from Graphic 45’s Domestic Goddess papers. (retired)  The cherry paper was a perfect match!

Pollys Sweet Cherries 01bVintage buttons, burlap banners, novelty buttons and a luxurious black satin bow make for a mighty sweet card!

Pollys Sweet Cherries 01cThe inside is done with complimentary papers and uses a Subway Art Sentiment from Polly’s to finish it off. There are 8 all-occasion sentiments in this great digital download.

Sweet Cherries for Polly 02aThis is one of my favorite sayings…and do you remember the title from Erma Bombeck’s book?  (If Life is a Bowl Full of Cherries, What Am I Doing in the Pits?)  I used papers from Echo Park’s pretty Home Grown collection on this card and paired the focal up with mulberry flowers, black grosgrain ribbon with a cherry print, and red burlap string.   The shabby chic metal corner and novelty button are the perfect finishing touch.

Sweet Cherries for Polly 02bI love to add layers of texture, color and pattern to a card like this.  The key is to make sure you mat each layer and to choose patterns that vary in size and intensity.  That makes everything work together and keeps the patterns from competing with one another.  For instance, I have a bold blue check background, paired up with a smaller check/floral print and a teeny tiny red check banner. The typography panel just sort of blends into the background.  If you think of it in terms of coins, I have a half dollar, quarter, nickel and dime sized prints.

Inside the card, I’ve made a pocket using the blue check and I’ve filled it with two pretty tags. I added stamping, ribbon, twine and more pretty images from the Sweet Cherry download.  This is more than just a card…it’s a gift!  Especially if you tuck a little note or gift into the pocket with the tags!

Summer is starting to fade…but these Sweet Summer Cherry cards will add color and happiness all year long!

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheerio,

kathy

Every single one is so chock full of goodness, Kathy, I love them all! When you print out your designs, what weight paper or card stock are you using? I’m not a digital crafter, but you might just change my mind! Happy Wednesday!

Wow, Kathy! Not one, but TWO beautiful cards! I really enjoyed reading through your post and learning one of your layering secrets. I really needed this advice on layering and patterns. Sweet, sweet papers, and I love all those special Kathy details such as the stitching, the doily, the glittering on the cherries, the luscious black bow and book page (inside) on the first card, and again, stitching on the second one. And the rhinestone bling and book page leaves, and little key embellishment on the second card! Oh, Kathy, you make the BEST cards! Big hugs!
