Easter Bunny Hideaway House Rescued from The Closet of Shame

Some time ago, I purchased this house shaped shadow box, thinking I would use it to  make some Christmas gifts.  Then life got busy, and the poor house lay forgotten in the Closet of Shame.

Somehow, I think it was meant to be.  While doing a little springtime tidy up, I ran across the house and knew immediately that it was destined to become this little Easter Bunny Hideaway House.

Easter Bunny Hideaway House: Tips and Tricks

Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Hideaway House by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 03

Here’s  how I created this dimensional focal image.

  • First, fussy cut around the 4″ x 6″ card front from Abundant 6.
  • Leave an extra 1/2″ border on the bottom edge.
  • Then score along the 1/2″ border and fold.
  • Use your scissors to cut little “v” shapes about 1/2″ apart along this folded edge.  These will serve as tabs that you can adhere to the bottom edge of the shadow box.  Of course, you will want to decorate the back of the box before you insert this element.
  • Fold a lightweight piece of chipboard into 3 sections. Adhere one piece to the back of the Easter Bonnet girl.  Then adhere the other to the back of the shadow box.  You will have to use trial and error to get the length just right.  But this will prevent the girl from flopping over.
Easter Bunny Hideaway House: A Button Tiled Roof

Any time I can play with my vintage button collection, I’m a happy girl!  I’ve created a “tiled” roof effect. Add a few more inside the box to resemble the shine of Easter Eggs.

Decorate the sides and the back of the box.   You could actually add a 4″ x 6″ photo to the back of the box.

This was such a fun project to make, I just had to share it with you here.  I hope it has served to spark your own creativity.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

Thanks for stopping by!  Wishing you all a warm, wonderful and blessed Easter!

Easter Blessings Loaded Envelope

Authentique Abundant Easter Blessings Loaded Envelope for the RRR April Hop

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the Really Reasonable Ribbon April Blog Hop. You should be coming here filled with inspiration after having visited Karen’s lovely blog.  With Easter fast approaching, I decided it would be fun to create a Easter Blessings Loaded Envelope using the April Ribbon Club Assortment and Authentique Paper’s Abundant Easter Collection.

The base is a 5″ x 7″ kraft envelope filled with tags and goodies from the Easter Bunny!  Yellow and Gray ribbons from this month’s ribbon club really work with this vintage style paper collection.

Easter Blessings Loaded Envelope: The Front Side

The front of the envelope is also decorated.  I’ve stacked Daffodil Checkerboard Satin Ribbon with 3/8″ Metal Gray Plaid to form little bow clusters in the corners of the focal image.  Yellow bead/berry sprays really brighten things up tucked in with the ribbon and Little Birdie Flowers. A fussy cut banner from the paper collection is a great way to get the party started.

Easter Blessings Loaded Envelope: The Details

  • Fussy cut the baby chicks image and pop it up with dimensionals.
  • Cover chipboard bunnies with designer paper and add micro rose garlands.

  • Create twin bow clusters for the envelope sides and top with roses.
  • Pop the ends of a Cardstock Elements banner up on foam dots and adhere to the envelope flap.
Easter Blessings Loaded Envelope: What’s Inside?

This trio of treat tags, the vintage silver spoon and the honey stick have all been dressed up with ribbon.  I’ve wrapped a package of Chocolate Biscoff cookies with designer paper and a tag from the collection.  You get such a generous amount of the Daffodil Checkerboard Satin and the Metal Grey Plaid that there is plenty to go around!  And of course, I had to throw in a little Ivory Burlap String.

All the tags are decorated with an image on the front and a treat pocket on the back.

I’ve added a Spellbinder’s Triple Tear Circle and some cute Eileen Hull Banners and Pennants Dies  to each tag.

The third tag has a little notecard tucked into the pocket.  Make this by folding the 4″ x 6″ image in half on the long side.

I like to think of these loaded envelopes as Easter Baskets for grownups.  It’s fun to dress them up with pretty papers and ribbons.

On With the Hop!

From here, you will hop on over to Cherry’s blog.  Finish up at the RRR Blog  where you will find the complete hop list.  Answer Bonnie’s question of the month to be entered into the drawing for a free April Ribbon Club Assortment.

I hope I’ve shared some tips and ideas that you can use in your own crafty adventures.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

Thanks for hopping by!

Authentique Abundant Peter Cottontail Shaker Card

Authentique Abundant Peter Cottontail Shaker Card

Hello, Friends!  Today I’m shaking things up with an Authentique Abundant Peter Cottontail Shaker Card to share with you.

Authentique Abundant Peter Cottontail Shaker Card by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Tim Holtz Lace Baseboard Frame Photo 01

Does this ever happen to you?  It’s time to clean up the craftermath from a project.  And while you are tidying up, your eye falls on something that ignites your imagination. While cleaning up my Easter Bunny Banner, this cutie patootie Peter Cottontail hopped right off my work desk and into my hands.  How could I resist?

Peter Cottontail Shaker Card: Tall and Skinny

Tall and skinny cards seem to be all the rage right now, so I thought I’d take one for a spin, as I don’t recall having made one before.  This one measures 4 1/4″ x 7 3/4″ with a 1″ spine.  To pull out the blues in the paper collection, I matted my designer papers on Sno-Cone cardstock.  Then to anchor all those soft pastels, I matted a second time on Milk Chocolate.  Which I have to admit, is pretty perfect for an Easter Bunny card.

Peter Cottontail Shaker Card: Use Your Scraps

Authentique Abundant Peter Cottontail Shaker Card by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Tim Holtz Lace Baseboard Frame Photo 03

Remember all the little diamond shaped pennants I die cut for the Bunny Banner?  The negative cut was just perfect to use as a banner flag layer for this card.  Use your scraps, people!   I recently acquired some vintage doilies at flea market.  I love the texture they add to a shabby chic project.  So I turned a square doily into a diamond shape, wrapped the ends around my card front and secured on the back with Scor-Tape.  (You can see this better in the photo below.) Add more texture by wrapping the base of the card with some buttery yellow embroidery floss.

Peter Cottontail Shaker Card: The Shaker Box

The frame for the shaker box is another Tim Holtz Lace Baseboard frame.  You get 6 sizes and styles of frames in each pack, so I think they are a pretty good value. These are so easy to alter with inks and sprays  Here’s how I altered this one:

  • First, Sponge on a light layer of Weathered Wood Distress Oxide Ink.
  • Next, tap random areas of the frame with Faded Jeans Distress Oxide Ink.
  • Now, spritz the frame lightly with Brushed Pewter Mica Spray.
  • Finally, heat dry the frame, blotting up any big blobs of ink with a paper towel.
  • Next, back the frame with a 3 1/2″ x 5″ panel of clear acrylic cardstock.
  • Then add a triple layer of foam adhesive.
  • Fill the shaker box with Buttons Galore Easter Chic Shaker Mix.   This mix actually contains small buttons, and that’s why we need the three layers of foam adhesive.  If you are using a different shaker mix, you can get by with a double layer of foam tape.
  • Finally, center the card front over the shaker box.  Take your time and make sure everything is centered and straight!
Peter Cottontail Shaker Card: Finishing Touches

Little Birdie Flowers cascade down the side of the card.  Alter these by dry brushing them with a little ivory chalk paint.  Tuck a Graphic 45 Ornate Metal Keyhole in with the flowers to amp up the Shabby Chic Vibe.  A buttery yellow satin bow and key combo adds just the right pop of color.

Peter Cottontail Shaker Card: A Peek Inside

Oh look!  There’s a party inside this card!  The double pocket on the right holds a tea bag, chocolate treat, honey stick and a real treasure.

I found this darling demitasse spoon on one of my junkin’ adventures.  It is vintage silver/gold plated and engraved with the sweetest little cherub.  And…imported from italy!  I bought them all.  You know me and my passion for vintage spoons!

To add some interactive fun to the card interior, I created this little magnetic folio from scraps that were lying about.

Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Banner

Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Banner

Hello, Friends!  Happy April Fool’s Day!  I have no tricks today…just a super sweet Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Banner to share with you.

Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Banner Eileen Hull House Pocket Stitchlets Die Tutorial by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

Y’all know how much I love to make banners!  This time, I’ve used the Eileen Hull House/Pocket Stitchlets Die from Sizzix to create the banner base.  The soft vintage patterns and colors from Authentique’s Abundant collection lend a delightful vintage vibe to this pretty pretty banner.

This is a BIG banner…over 4 feet long from tip to tail, so to speak.  Here are my best tips and tricks for making your own version.

Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Banner: Eileen Hull House/Pocket Die Tips

Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Banner Eileen Hull House Pocket Stitchlets Die Tutorial by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 02

  • Begin by die cutting Authentique Spectrum Mustard Seed Cardstock using the large house “frame” die.  Place these on the patterned paper so that the triangular point is at the bottom. You will need to cut 3.
  • Next, layer the house frame and the smaller stitched die (the one with the little holes) together on your patterned paper.  I used Abundant 1.  Use washi tape to hold the dies in place.  Then die cut 3 pennants.
  • Now you will need to trim about 1/8″ away from the edges of the stitched die so that it allows the Mustard seed layer to peek through.
  • Once you have trimmed the patterned paper layer, stitch around the inside edge.  This is not required.  You can always just use adhesive, but I like the texture that the stitching provides.
Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Banner: Creating the Small Pennants

Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Banner Eileen Hull House Pocket Stitchlets Die Tutorial by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 03

Add visual interest and contrast to your banner by interspersing small banner shapes between the larger pennants.  It’s always fun to poke through my dies and see which ones might add a fun shape to a banner.  This time, I selected the Heartfelt Creations Eyelet Diamond #3 die (with #1 being the largest die) for this job.

  • Die cut 4 Eyelet Diamonds from Abundant One
  • Now, fold each diamond  in half to form a triangle.  The design paper on the inside of the pennant will peep through, and this is so pretty.
  • No need to stitch the open edges of the pennant together.

That’s it!  Easy peasy!

Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Banner: Stitching the Banner Together

Machine stitching the pennants to ribbon really makes for a sturdy banner that will stand up to the test of time.

  • Cut a 5 foot length of Light Blue Silky Crush Ribbon and lay it out on your work surface.
  • Find the center point of the ribbon.  Use a binder clip to attach the pennant to the ribbon at this point.
  • Now, place a small pennant on each side of the center pennant.  Secure them to the ribbon with a binder clip as before.  I left about 1 1/2″ between each pennant.
  • Repeat this process all along the ribbon until all the pennants are in place.
  • To add crochet lace along the top as I did here, go back and tuck it under each binder clip.
  • Now carefully carry the whole ensemble to your sewing machine and stitch along the top edge to secure everything in place.
  • Find the bottom edge of the ribbon and stitch a second time along that line.  This will ensure that the banner hangs prettily.
Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Banner: Adding the Details

I had these chipboard bunnies in my stash, and I’m not sure where they came from.  But here is how I built the layers on each large pennant.

  • Die cut 3 Spellbinder Lotus Pendants from Whip Cream Cardstock.
    • NOTE: This is an older, retired die.  But a quick Google search revealed that there are a few available in various spots online.  If you cannot find it, substitute the Spellbinders Triple Tear Die.
  • Die cut Abundant Four using the Spellbinders #3 Triple Tear Die.  You will need 3
  • Use the Triple Tear 4 die to cut centers from Abundant Three.
  • Stack these layers together using foam tape or waste chipboard between them to add dimension.
  • Adhere to the pennant base.
Authentique Abundant Easter Bunny Banner: Finishing Touches

  • Tie the blue ribbon between each pennant using a square knot to secure it.
  • Trace the chipboard bunnies onto designer paper, cut out and adhere.
  • Tie burlap string bows and top with a button to decorate the bunnies.

  • Tie burlap bows and adhere over each square knot.
  • Add little rosebuds on top.  I used these Prima Georgia Blues flowers.

I found these wooden bunny buttons in my stash and used them to decorate the small pennants.  Top Light Blue Swiss Dot Satin Ribbon bows with burlap string bows and another flower.

I get such satisfaction from creating these lovely banners.  Using dies to help form the pennants is a real time saver.
