Spellbinders Club Kits May 2020 Blog Hop: Amazing Paper Grace Fleur Di Lis Grandeur Fold Over with Simple Stories Vintage Garden District

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the Spellbinders Club Kits May 2020 Blog Hop.  You should be coming here from  Desiree’s  blog.   Today I’m sharing a Simple Stories Vintage Garden District card made with the Amazing Paper Grace Fleur de Lis Grandeur Fold Over Dies.  This elegant die set is the APG Club kit for May, and it is glorious!

Building the Card Layers

Build these card layers by following these simple steps:

  • First, prepare a 6″ x 6″ card base from cream cardstock.
  • Next, cover the card front with a 6″ x 6″ panel of gold foil paper.
  • Now, place the Fleur de Lis Grandeur Frame over a 6″ x 6″ piece of teal cardstock from the Simple Stories Simple Basics cardstock pack.
  • Then use washi tape to secure the (4) Fold Over inserts inside the frame.
  • Run the die through your machine following  manufacturer instructions, then adhere to the gold foil background.

  • Next, cut a panel of  designer paper from the collection with the Inner Square Outline Die.  Mat this on a slightly larger panel of gold foil cardstock.
  • Now place the Inner Square Pattern die on a piece of gold foil paper.  Center the Inner Square Label die and secure with washi tape before running through your die cut machine.
  • Place 1/8″ foam adhesive on the sides of the die cut and center over the patterned paper so that the pink flowers peek through.
Finishing Touches

  • Now create a burlap string wreath and place over the center opening.
  • Then select a teal butterfly from the Vintage Garden District papers.  Place foam adhesive in the center of the butterfly, lift the wings and adhere in the center of the wreath.
  • Next tie a large loopy bow with Iridescent ribbon and adhere in the right hand corner of the card.
  • Now select flowers and foliage and adhere around the card as seen in the photo.
  • Then locate “The Simple Life” banner.  Gently round it against the side of a pencil.  Adhere just the ends to the card base to create a dimensional banner in the lower left hand corner of the card.
  • Finally, adhere cream pearls to finish the card front.
A Peek Inside

Finish the inside of your card with more designer papers .  Then die cut 2 of the Fold Over Inserts from scraps of your gold cardstock.  Adhere these to create a little treat pocket.

This is such a pretty way to present a little chocolate treat inside the card.

Tuck a little tea bag wallet and a journal card into the larger pocket. Write your personal greeting or add a photo to the journal card.  Tuck a honey stick inside the pocket to go with the tea bag, if desired.  I find these honey sticks at our local farmer’s market.

Simple Stories Simple Vintage Garden District Mini Album with Spellbinders Amazing Paper Grace DOM May 2020 by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

Simple Stories Simple Vintage Garden District Mini Album

Hello, Friends!   I’m here to share the Spellbinders Amazing Paper Grace May 2020 Club Kit for National Scrapbooking Day! I’m totally smitten with this month’s club kit because it is gorgeous, versatile and so easy to use.  This die affords almost limitless possibilities!  I envisioned a shaker top mini album the minute I opened it up.  So I pulled out my Simple Stories Simple Vintage Garden District collection to make this flirty, springtime mini album.

This sweet little album measures 6″ x 6″ with a 1 1/2″ spine and a shaker frame made from the Fleur de Lis Grandeur Fold Over Die from the APG DOM Kit.  The intricate swirls and layers are just dreamy!

TIP: Mat the shaker frame on a square panel that has been die cut from the paper collection, matted on plain cardstock and backed with foam dimensionals.

TIP: Die cut flowers from the paper collection using the petal die that comes with the DOM Kit.  Mix these with packaged flowers to create a lush garden on the cover of your album.

TIP: Wrap the album cover with a ribbon closure.  Then add some dangle charms to the spine.

A Peek Inside

Create a simple stacked binding for your album by following these steps:

  • Cut (2) 18″ x 6″ panels of cream cardstock.
  • Score one panel at 6″ and 7 1/2″.  Fold.  Tuck the fold into the corner of your scoring tool and score again at 7″.  Trim off the extra panel.
  • Score the 2nd panel at 6″ and 7″, and 11 3/4″.  This will form the center pages and a flip page.
  • Now center the 1″ spine over the 1 1/2″ spine and adhere to make the album pages.
  • Have fun and decorate the pages.

The first page set features a little magnetic flap pocket and a flip page.

TIP:  Die cut 2 of the corner pieces.  Adhere together between layers of designer paper to form a decorative pull tab.

TIP: Cut (2) 5 1/2″ x 12″ panels of designer paper.  Join together with Scor-Tape.  Score this long panel every 4 1/2″ to form an accordion pull out mechanism. Attach the flap of this mechanism to a to the flap of an 8″ x 6″ panel of designer paper that has been scored at 6″.

Tea Party in a Box

Because you have a 1″ spine in the middle of the album, you can add a 3/4″ deep box pocket on the left hand page.  Fill it with what I call a tea party in a box.  “Gift wrap” a tea bag, chocolate, and cookies.  Then tuck in the box with a vintage silver spoon and a honey stick.  Once the treats are consumed, photos can be stored in the box pocket.

Cut paper panels wider than the album base, then score to make flip pages. Add a waterfall feature and decorate with a die cut panel. The waterfall is built on the front side of a tip in page on the left.

Create a little tag pocket and pull out page on the front side of the flap.  Interactive elements add so much to an album like this.

Here’s a peek behind the tip in page on the left.  Create a little string tie envelope to store photos or small mementos. There’s room for a nice sized photo on the 5 1/2″ x 6″ flap.

This short video tour will let you see how all the project pages and mechanisms work together.  I hope you enjoy!
