Land That I Love Shaker Card Folio for Really Reasonable Ribbon

Hello, Friends!  When the calendar flipped to May, I felt inspired to create this Land That I Love Shaker Card Folio.  After all, I had the glorious Patriotic Ribbon Club Assortment from Really Reasonable Ribbon in house.  A quick check in at the Closet of Inspiration and Delight uncovered Photoplay’s America the Beautiful Collection waiting in the wings.  How could I possibly ask for a better duo? I even found a leftover rosette tucked in with the papers, so it was clear to me that a Patriotic creation should be on the menu!

This vibrant card is slightly larger than my normal 5″ x 7″ creation.  I wanted to make something large enough that it could double as a home décor piece, and function as a mini photo album. This 5 3/4″ x 8 1/4″ top fold card with a 1/2″ spine seemed about right to me.  If you are like me, you enjoy having lots of “real estate” because it gives you lots of room to add layers of paper and embellishments to a card.

The Shaker Window

I am unapologetically patriotic.  America is a glorious country.  Her people are kind, generous, brave and hard-working.  I may not always love the folks in D.C. or the way they try to run things, but the people of this nation inspire me.  And the physical beauty of my country thrills me.  Our oceans, mountains, rivers, forests, deserts, plains, waterfalls…all of that beautiful land fills my heart with joy.  So when I found a 4×6 card in the paper collection that read “land that I love” I  knew exactly what I was going to do!

  • First, adhere clear cardstock (acetate) on the back side of the frame in the ephemera pack.
  • Then, add 3 layers of 1/4″ foam tape to the back.
  • Next, cut a panel of the navy blue check paper so that is slightly larger than the frame.  Stitch this panel onto red and navy cardstock mats to make it stand out.
  • Now, fill the center of that panel with red and blue buttons, Patriotic Stars Sparkletz, and sequins (linked below).  Carefully line up the frame over the sequins and press in place.
  • Finally, fussy cut the floral US map from the 4×6 card, back with adhesive and adhere to the front of the frame.  Trim out the sentiment, back with 1/8″ foam tape and adhere to the top of the frame.
  • Now add the red circus dot grosgrain ribbon from the assortment to the corners along with a little ivory burlap string bow and button combo.
A Peek Inside

There’s a patriotic party going on inside this vibrant card!  The top half of the card houses a 3×4″ pull out folio.

There’s lots of room here to add photos and journaling, and you can also add a large photo beneath the pull out element.

Use the quad sheet to create a 5 1/2 x 6″ mini folio for all those great family photos.

You can even tuck in some flap pages!

A hidden side pocket makes a great place to tuck in some Polaroid style photo mats.  Leave one side and the top edge open so that you can slide your photo in easily.

Surprise!  A little tip in page provides room for even more photos!

I hope I’ve shared some ideas and inspiration that will help you create some spectacular Red, White and Blue cards just in time for summer!

Masculine Patriotic Birthday Cake Card

Photoplay America the Beautiful Masculine Birthday Card by Kathy Clement Photo 01

Photoplay America the Beautiful Masculine Patriotic Birthday Cake Card

Hello, Friends!  Since my sweet husband’s birthday is just 2 days after the 4th, I thought it would be fun to make him a Masculine Patriotic Birthday Cake Card with my America the Beautiful papers from Photoplay.  This red. white, and blue card came together very quickly, but it still has some fun features and techniques that I think you will enjoy.

How to Bake a Masculine Birthday Cake Card

  • First, create a 5 1/2″ square card base with a side fold.  The side fold is important as you will see when we open the card.
  • Next, cut a 5 1/2″ square from the Barbecue pattern.
  • Then cut a 5 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ strip from the Celebrate pattern and adhere across the middle.
  • Now cut out the cake and confetti stars 3×4 card from the Liberty pattern.  Adhere these so that the stars peek out at an angle from behind the cake image.  Back with dimensionals and adhere.
  • Stamp the Smile sentiment with Faded Jeans Distress Oxide.  Then heat emboss with clear powder.  Brush the top with your Versamark pad, then heat emboss again to create a raised sentiment.
  • Next, cut out the sentiment with the matching die.
  • Now cut out an oval from the fireworks pattern using the die from the Make a Window  set.
  • Stamp the small “here’s a reason to ” sentiment with Barn Door Distress oxide ink and cut out with the small banner flag from Make a Window.
  • Top the cake image with a cherry button.  Then add dots of Dries Clear adhesive randomly on the plate, then sprinkle some Merry Mimosa Doo Dadz.
  • Dress up the corners with a pinwheel and a little red clothespin embellishment.
A Peek Inside

Pop ups are a perfect addition to a birthday card.  This one is so easy to make!

  • Cut out the long Celebrate panel from the Land of the Free patterned paper.
  • Fold it in half and burnish.
  • Now open it and fold the right hand side in half to meet the center crease.
  • Then fold the left hand side in half to meet the center crease.
  • Now accordion fold it in to a little packet.  The “C” will be on the bottom inside, and the “E” will be on the back side of the top panel.
  • Next figure out the placement for the pop up.  The center crease of the pop up needs to line up with the center crease of the card base.  Once you’ve found the sweet spot, adhere the bottom of the packet to the right hand side of the card base.
  • Fold the packet closed and place adhesive on the top.  Then close the card and press in place.
  • When you open the card, the sentiment will pop up!
  • Tuck a little ephemera bit behind the clothespin.  Then add the sticker banner in the right hand corner.

How fun is that?

Dale will have blackberry cobbler and vanilla ice cream in lieu of cake.  It’s something his mom used to make for him every year.  He changes up his birthday dessert every year, but this was what he wanted this year, so that’s what we are having.

We sure are thankful that we get to celebrate this birthday together.  After his big scare in April, we don’t take any special events for granted.  Actually, every day feels like a special event when you’ve survived a heart attack!  God is so good!

That’s it for me today, folks!  Gotta go make that blackberry cobbler.  You’ll find a linked supply list below the post.

Independence Day Star Spangled Slimline Shaker Card

Photoplay America the Beautiful Slimline Shaker Card by Kathy Clement Photo 01

Independence Day Star Spangled Slimline Shaker Card

Happy 4th of July, Friends!  I’m just popping in to share this Star Spangled Slimline Shaker card with you, and to wish you a day of great celebration.  It’s been 245 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed.  (If you haven’t read that brilliant document in a while, you might want to refresh your memory. ) I love this quote from John Adams regarding the importance of this day in history:

I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.

I sought to capture that spirit of celebration in this slimline shaker card made with Photoplay’s America the Beautiful Collection.  Let’s take a look at how this card came together.

Step by Step

  • Begin by folding a Photoplay Slimline Card Base in half to create an 8 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ top fold card.
  • Next, cut panel of red cardstock to fit the front of the card.
  • Now cut out the 4×6 journal card and the star pattern from the journal card that is beside it. Cut the stars so that they flank the Independence Day sentiment.
  • Stitch the Independence Day sentiment and the right hand panel to the red cardstock base.
  • Now back the left hand star panel with chipboard, wrap it with patriotic ribbon and adhere on the left hand side of the card.
  • Cut a rectangular frame from a piece of white matboard.  Heat emboss with red glitter embossing powder.  Then back with clear cardstock and foam tape to make a shaker box.
  • Next, adhere the ticket and circle ephemera to the Independence Day panel.
  • Now place patriotic sequins (linked below) on the panel and press the shaker frame in place.
  • Then tie the ribbon in a square knot, top with blue roses and patriotic charms and add glitter buttons on the left.
  • Finally, adhere the star ephemera to a blue glitter clothespin, top with flowers and adhere on the right.
A Peek Inside

Here’s a peek at the inside.  This one makes me think of a 4th of July Parade Float.

I hope everyone has a safe, and happy 4th of July celebration today.  Take a moment to pause and think about the brave men and women who made this day possible for us.  Then take another moment to thank God for this great nation.  As the words of the song say, “America, America…God shed His grace on thee.  And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea!”

Home of the Brave Easel Card

Photoplay America the Beautiful Easel Card by Kathy Clement Photo 01 Home of the Brave Easel Card with Amazing Paper Grace July 2021 DOM

Hello, Friends!  Let’s kick of the month of July with a red, white and blue Home of the Brave Easel Card.  How much do we love the Spellbinders Amazing Paper Grace Club Kit this month?  This Mini House Vignette Die has endless possibilities!  I’ve paired it up with some great vintage patterns from Photo Play’s America the Beautiful Collection.  It’s Americana Home Décor for all seasons, but especially appropriate for Independence Day.

Instead of creating the pop up box, I simply die cut the pieces from patterned paper and cut the trims from copper metallic paper to create this dimensional scene.  Patriotic Star Sparkletz burst from the center of the fireworks display in the sky.   Create a welcome mat for the front door by layering the “welcome” die cut over a scrap of copper metallic paper.

Adorn the stopper of the card with faded blue flowers, berries and bright red ribbon.  Cut the sentiment from the center of a 4″ x 6″ journal card, pop it up on dimensionals and this little card is ready to be displayed.

A Peek Inside

The stopper for this card is actually a pocket.  Create a mini gift card wallet from paper scraps.  My mom always used to send our kids some ice cream money for the 4th of July, and that’s a tradition I’m happy to carry on.  Stickers from the paper collection decorate the card interior.
