Prima Spring Farmhouse Pop Up Anniversary Card

Hello, Friends!  Today I’m sharing the Prima Spring Farmhouse Pop Up Anniversary Card that I made for my sweet husband.  Today marks 45 years as man and wife.  Wow!  It seems like it was just yesterday, but when I look back over the long, winding road we’ve traveled together, my heart overflows with gratitude for the beautiful life we have been given.

We met in Bible College in upstate New York.  An unlikely pairing: me a rock ribbed New England girl, Dale a soft spoken Southern boy.  I was 19…he was 20.  And between the 2 of us we had about a nickel’s worth of common sense.  But we fell in love and we got married.  And I think, although it is hard to imagine, that I love him now more than I did at the first.   Because we were both so young, it’s like we grew up together.  I hardly have an adult memory that does not include Dale.  Isn’t that amazing?

So when I saw this “Such a Beautiful Life” sentiment in the Spring Farmhouse collection, I knew it said exactly what my heart is feeling today.

Such a Beautiful Life…from bits and bobs

Here’s how this simple card came together from bits and bobs of the Spring Farmhouse collection.

  • First, create a 5 1/2″ square card base from 1 sheet of 8 1/2″ x 11″ kraft cardstock.
  • Next, cut a 5 1/4″ square of chocolate brown cardstock as a matting layer.
  • Trim a 4×6 Spring Farmhouse Journal Card to a width of 5 1/8″.  Adhere this at the top of the chocolate brown panel.
  • Now trim out the brown check pattern to fill in the gap between the journal card and the base of the chocolate brown panel.  I had to overlap these two pieces, but it really didn’t matter because I knew the joint would be covered by the other card layers.
  • Then ink the edges of 3″ x 4″ wood grain journal card and adhere it over the background so that it is mostly on the right hand side of the card.
  • Now wrap the left hand side of the card with burlap string.  Tie a knot at the top.  Slip a little key and padlock over the ends of the string (my heart belongs to him alone!)  and tie a knot. Add a small burlap string bow at the top.
Layer and Layers of Memories

  • Next, layer other neutral scraps of paper over kraft and chocolate brown cardstock.
  • Then cut out the old house image and mat on both kraft and brown.  Place dimensionals on the back to really make it pop.
  • Use a tag die to cut out the sentiment from the paper collection.  Top with a bow and a button.  Place dimensionals on the back and adhere to the card base.
  • Then adhere the chipboard sentiment “Grow Old With Me…the Best is Yet to Come” to the right of the focal image.
  • Adhere the large button on the right.

This old house makes me think of us.  We’ve had lots of celebrations…and we’ve weathered some storms.  But the walls are still sound…and the roof doesn’t leak…and this man is my home.  Ain’t love grand?

A Peek Inside

I created a little pop-up scene inside the card.  Then I added a stamped sentiment that is so perfectly “us.”  We’ve consumed more than a few peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in lean times…but that’ s OK!  We both like peanut butter and jelly!

The sentiment panel on the top of the card is actually a pocket/tag combo where I wrote my personal note to Dale.  And no…you can’t read it!

We have no big celebrations this year….just a quiet dinner at home with lots of good memories to share with one another and dreams for the future, whatever it may hold.  Just the way we like it!  I’ll be back with a Spring Farmhouse card video tutorial for Throwback Thursday!

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheerio,

kathy
