Man in the Moon Masculine Milestone Birthday Card

Man in the Moon Masculine Milestone Birthday Card with RRR and Masquerade

Hello, Friends!  What do you say we make a Masculine Milestone Birthday Card today?  Our youngest son, my baby, turns 30 this week!  What?  How did that happen so fast!  No big milestone birthday bash this year, but I did want to make him a special card to commemorate the occasion.  As I was creating Halloween cards with the Masquerade collection, my eye fell on this whimsical image of these dapper gents partying on a crescent moon.  Perfect image for a son that you love to the moon and back!

The Process

This whimsical creation comes together in a jiffy, too.  The basic card recipe can be adapted  for use with any theme, any paper collection for any season.  Since this is fall, I chose to use fall colors.  Here’s the step by step:

  • Begin by creating a 5 3/4″ x 5 3/4″ top fold card from kraft cardstock.
  • Next, mat a 5 1/4″ square of the orange tartan on a 5 1/2″ square of black cardstock.
  • Now mat a 2 1/2″ x 5 1/8″ scrap of the reverse pattern on a 2 5/8″ x 5 3/8″ panel of black CS and adhere along the left hand side of the tartan.  Leave about a 1/2″ margin.
  • Then die cut the Tim Holtz Timekeeper clock from black cardstock.  Back it a circle of the argyle print from the Masquerade 6×6 pad. Adhere in the center of the card.
  • Die cut some stitched stars and the milestone numbers from copper foil paper and patterned paper.
  • Next fussy cut the men in the moon twice.  Layer together with dimensionals between them to create real depth.
  • Tuck the largest star behind the image.  Then adhere the image to the center of the clock.

  • Use an embossing folder to add texture to the numbers.  Then tap with Ground Espresso Distress Paint.  Let it dry for a few seconds, then wipe away the excess to create the look of hammered copper.
  • Add copper brads along the side.
  • Color the silver charm with a mix of Ginger Alcohol Ink.  Place it over the smallest star, securing with a foam dimensional.
  • The perfect finishing touch is a simple bow tied with Brown and Cream Gingham Ribbon from  Really Reasonable Ribbon.  Top the bow off with a haberdashery button for the win.
A Peek Inside

Finish the inside with papers and images from the Manly collection. Joel is a runner, so I had to fit that running shoe pattern into his card somewhere.   I tucked a little gift wallet inside the “Man Card” pocket.  (This image actually kinda looks like our handsome son!  Way to go, Authentique Paper!)  Add a panel of stamped birthday wishes to finish the interior of the card.

Simple.  Manly, Festive.  Not cute.  Whimsical.  I think this will work nicely for our son!  Joel has been a constant source of delight to our family.  As the youngest, he was doted on from the day he was born.  All of his siblings watched over him, protected him and spoiled him …just enough…not too much!  He’s industrious, intelligent and thoughtful.  And no, I’m not the least bit biased.  You’d feel that way about him, too, if you met him!

So there you go…an easy card “recipe” for a masculine milestone birthday.  Who knew that Halloween paper would work so well for a birthday card!

Christmas Mittens Twisted Easel Card Tutorial

Eileen Hull Mitten Box Die Sizzix Chapter Christmas Mittens Twisted Easel Card Tutorial with Authentique Paper A Magical Christmas by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

Eileen Hull Christmas Mittens Twisted Easel Card Tutorial with Authentique A Magical Christmas

Hello, Friends!  Today I have a Christmas Mittens Twisted Easel Card to share with you.  The Eileen Hull Educator Team is featuring Eileen’s darling new Mitten Box Die and Snowman Box Die this week.  (Be sure to check out the Eileen Hull Blog on Wednesday. You’ll find a group post filled with inspiration, tutorials and ideas for her new release.)

There’s something magical about mittens at Christmas!  Instead of using the die to make a box, I created a cute focal point for this holiday card.  Authentique’s A Magical Christmas Collection is such a great partner for this cute die!  Hanging the mittens upside down with a cluster of ribbons and flowers at the top gives them the appearance of an ornament.  In fact, you could even make tree ornaments this way!  I’ll show you how to do this in the tutorial below.

TIP: Add festive mini banners by cutting card scraps with Eileen’s Banner and Pennant Thinlets Die.  Stagger the die layers to create a sense of depth and dimension   Then add cute little bows and bitty buttons to the corners.

The Twisted Easel Card

Twisted easel cards may look complicated, but they are actually very easy to make.

  • First, create a 6″ x 6″ top fold card base.
  • Next, fold the point of the bottom right corner up until it lines up with the point of the top left hand corner.  (It will look like a triangle.)
  • Then just fold and crease!  Now you have a twisted easel card base.
  • Cut mittens, rickrack, and hearts from mat board or medium weight chipboard.
  • Flip the mittens so that you have a thumb on the right and a thumb on the left.
  • When die cutting the designer paper to cover the mittens, put one piece in face down and the other face up.  This way your papers will “match” and fit the die cut properly.

TIP:  Fold the bottom left hand corner up to the top right hand corner to make a twisted easel card that faces the other direction.  Isn’t that fun?

I love using twisted easel cards as home decor.   This Christmas version would be so pretty perched on a holiday mantel!

A Hidden Pocket

The video tutorial will show you how to build the card base, add layers and create this fun hidden tag pocket.  Eileen’s Pocket and Tag Die fits perfectly behind this pair of Christmas mittens.  You can easily add a gift card to the tag with a dab of hot glue or a glue dot.  So now, this card is also a gift!

A Peek Inside

The pocket part of Eileen’s Pocket and Tag die fits perfectly in the corner of the card interior.  I tucked a little Holiday Tea Bag inside, just for fun.

Once you learn how to make this fun card base, I know you’ll want to make a ton of them.  They would make great Christmas luncheon favors or girlfriend gifts.

Button Farm Club Timeless Wedding Album Kit Release

Hello, Friends!  Because love is always in season, I’m thrilled to announce this Button Farm Club Timeless Wedding Kit Release!  This classic mini album kit is designed to help you document your wedding, celebrate a special anniversary, or create a heritage-themed wedding album that you will cherish for many years to come.

Timeless Beauty

You just can’t beat cream and black for a wedding album!  The colors never go out of style, work with any wedding color scheme, are perfect for heritage wedding albums and really make black and white portraits pop.

Designing this album was so much fun.  I started with a 49 & Market blank album.  Then I paired it up with gorgeous papers from  Authentique’s  Timeless Collection.  Creamy white flowers from Little Birdie Crafts, luxurious satin ribbon and a stylish chipboard title add extra charm to the design.

This elegant oversized antique bronze key dresses up the album spine.  A large album like this  6 1/4″ x 8 1/4″ beauty offers loads of room for photos, journaling and special memories.

A Peek Inside

Interactive elements in an album make me really happy.  So I came up with lots of ways to customize the album design to accommodate my passion for little pull-out features, folios and pockets.

The album is designed to tell your love story from the proposal to the wedding and on through the reception.  There’s even a spot to add a few honeymoon and 1st anniversary photos!  This large double waterfall feature will display 22 big photos.

Share photos of your wedding party and honored guests here.

And this gatefold design page features lots of wonderful nooks and crannies for photos and journaling.

A Little Christmas in July

Eileen Hull Sizzix Snowman Box Easel Card Authentique Snowfall by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

A Little Christmas in July with Eileen Hull and Authentique Paper

Hello, Friends!  I know it’s the 4th, but I just had to share a little Christmas in July with you today.  I have two of the cutest little Christmas projects, both made with Eileen Hull’s newly released Sizzix dies and Authentique papers.

These versatile steel rule dies can be used to create a dimensional box, or as mixed media elements.  Cute as a button, they are perfect for holiday gifting and card making.

Warm Hearts Easel Card

This 7″ x 8 1/4″ easel card features elements from the Snowman Box.  Here’s how I prepared the die cut pieces to build this wintry vignette.

  • First, die cut the pieces from mat board.  You will only need one box side to serve as the picket fence.
  • Mist the fence lightly with water and run it through your die cutting machine to add the wood grain texture.
  • Next, apply Gathered Twigs Distress ink to the front of the fence.  Cut an extra “v” on the box side to keep the pickets looking all the same.
  • Now apply Black Soot Distress Ink Directly to the surface of a wood grain embossing folder and run it through the machine a second time.
  • Apply Dries White Glitter Glue and Frosted Crystals to the pickets and base of the fence, then set aside to dry.
  • “Paint” the snowman bodies with Nuvo Toasted Almond Mousse. to add texture and shine.
  • Trace the snowman hats and scarves onto designer paper, cut out and apply to the snowman bodies.
  • Accessorize with burlap string, mini jingle bells and flowers.
A Peek Inside

Add a pocket inside the card to serve as the stopper for the easel mechanism.  Then prepare a little treat wallet to tuck inside.  I’ve decorated this card with Authentique Paper’s Snowfall Collection. Wouldn’t this be a great gift to send in the mail? And you can leave snowman décor up long after the holiday has passed.  They are just so cheery!

On the Nice List: Mitten Treat Box

I have a soft spot in my heart for mittens.  My mom used to knit ours every winter.  She always added extra long cuffs so the snow would not creep up our sleeves and freeze us.  So this mitten box speaks to my memories, and I just love it.   The box is very easy to assemble.  Just die cut mat board or chipboard , then die cut your designer papers and adhere.  The die comes with the mitten shape, the rickrack trim and some cute little hearts.

Make a bunch of these to use as place cards for your holiday celebrations.  They also make wonderful gifts for friends, neighbors and co-workers.  Authentique Paper’s new “A Magical Christmas” collection is absolutely stunning.  I’ve used the 6×6 pad to decorate my mittens and wrap the presents that are tucked inside. Once the treats are consumed, display candy canes, peppermints, or wrapped candy in the mitten box.  Or, use it as a pen holder on your desk.

Create a little tag insert with Eileen’s Gift Card Folder and Label Die.  It fits neatly inside the mitten box.  The dimensional envelope makes a great treat wallet, too.

I used to think Christmas in July was crazy, but now I realize that it takes time to create handmade gifts.  Starting in July makes me feel less rushed during the holiday season, too.  When do you start creating your Christmas crafts?

2020 Year in a Box Button Farm Club Release

2020 Year in a Box Button Farm Club Kit Release by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

2020 Year in a Box Button Farm Club Kit Release

Hello, Friends!  I have been planning and designing this  Button Farm Club 2020 Year in a Box Kit for many months.  And today is release day!  Hooray!  Hooray!  I can’t wait to share all the details with you!

2020 Year in a Box: A Unique Memory Keeping System

Life is filled with all kinds of days: celebration days, happy days, ordinary days…days that you want to hold onto forever. Sometimes we want to make time stand still.  Well, I can’t do that for you, but I can supply you with the 2020 Year in a Box Calendar Kit.  This unique memory keeping system is designed to make it easy for you to hold on to all the happiest moments of 2020.

The 2020 Year in A Box Kit consists of a series of 12 folios: one for each month of the year, housed in a handsome and sturdy 8” x 8” storage box that you will be proud to display as part of your home décor.

Simple elegance was my goal for the storage box.  Neutral colors and timeless patterns were a must.  I finally decided on a classic grey, cream and tan colors and patterns that had a vintage farmhouse vibe.  This means the box will look great in any home.

2020 Year in a Box: The Monthly Folios

Each gatefold style folio measures 7” x 7” and has room for at least a dozen photographs of your favorite moments from each month of the year. You’ll find pockets with mini folios, a monthly calendar, tags and journaling spots, a blank panel where you can make lists of special events like birthdays, holidays or anniversaries, hidden pockets, pull out folios, meaningful sentiments and lovely vintage images tucked inside each month.  There’s even a monthly greeting card tucked inside that you can give, or use for journaling and small photos.

Because time is precious, I’ve designed the folios to be quick and easy to create.  When finished, store them inside the box for safekeeping.  Display a favorite photo or inspirational quote on the easel that tops the box lid.

Each quarter, I’ll change up the folio design so that you don’t get bored.  I’ll build in fun mechanisms to keep things interesting.  And those are skills that you can easily transfer into your other crafty adventures. It will be like taking a class with me each quarter!

2020 Year in A Box: What You Get

The first kit is massive.  You’ll get everything you need to create the home decor box and the first 3 folios for January, February and March.

You can buy the kits a la carte, or you can save money by subscribing for the whole year.

This is a quarterly subscription kit.  The first kit will come with all the supplies and instructions for the elegant box and the January, February and March folios.  We will release the folios for subsequent months once a quarter.  Here’s what comes in the first kit:

  • (1) 8” x 8” x 4” Papier-mâché Box with Lid
  • (24) 12″ x 12″ Sheets of Authentique  Calendar Collection Paper
  • (4) 12×12 Sheets of Authentique paper to cover the box

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to see this concept come to life!  This has been in my dreams and on my mind for the better part of 2019.  I hope you are as excited about it as I am.  2020 is looking good!
