Spellbinders Sparkling Holidays Cards
Hello, Friends! Today I have a sweet and simple trio of Spellbinders Sparkling Holidays Greeting Cards to share with you. When my friend on the social media team asked me if I’d be willing to create a few samples with last year’s October Card Kit of the Month, I was more than happy to pitch in. I’m more used to designing card kits than I am to creating with a kit that someone else has put together. But I’m always up for a challenge! The kit is lovely, and I’m glad Spellbinders decided to make it available to non-card club members. You can see all the elements in the kit HERE.
The biggest challenge for me was using only the items that came in the kit. No extra buttons, flowers or bows allowed! But, I was allowed to use basic Spellbinder shaped dies in addition to the accent dies that came with the kit. All the cards I’m going to show you today measure 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. The card bases and envelopes come with the kit.
Mitten Mouse Cutaway Card
What could be cuter than a mouse in a mitten? Here’s how this card came together.
- First, cut away 1″ from the right hand side of the card front.
- Then line the interior of the card with a 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ panel of designer paper from the kit.
- Next, cut a 3 1/8″ x 5 1/2″ panel of paper to cover the card front.
TIP: Die cut a circle from patterned paper. Then mat it on a slightly larger circle cut from colored cardstock. This creates a great background for a small focal image.
- Now adhere the die cut circle to the card front so that it overhangs the cutaway.
- Next, adhere the calendar. Place a glitter star over the “25” to make it stand out.
- Then die cut the word “Merry” from the silver foil that comes in the kit. Adhere as seen in the photo.
- Finally, adhere the mitten mouse sticker.
Holiday Ornaments Card
- Cover a card front with a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ panel of the pink cardstock from the kit.
- Next, cut a 3 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ panel of cardstock. Center and adhere this over the pink.
- Now cut a 2″ x 5 1/2″ panel of the blue night sky paper and adhere as seen.
- Adhere the star border sticker on the left.
- Then layer the die cut ornaments, flower and branches using the foam tabs that come in the kit to add lots of dimension.
- Finally, die cut “Merry Christmas” from the foil paper using the die that comes with the kit. Adhere rhinestones to the berry branches to add extra sparkle.
Toy Soldier Mouse
This card is very similar to the Mitten Mouse card. The only real difference is that I did not do a cutaway edge. And, I die cut some small poinsettia embellishments to add a little holiday sparkle to the card layout. Once again, that circle die came to the rescue. I love the way it helps to soften all the edges of the card. It also draws the eye to the cluster of small embellishments.
I’ll be back soon with a few more card samples made from this kit. These cute cards will be added as “extra helpings” to orders from my Etsy shop.
I hope I’ve shared some tips, tricks and ideas you can use in your own crafty adventures. If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below. Even if you don’t have this kit, you can use these basic card recipes as a template in your own card making.
Thanks for stopping by!
Cheerio,
kathy
