Spellbinders Precision Layering Basics Shaker Frame with Carta Bella Gather at Home

Hello, Friends!  I’ve ben having so much fun playing with the new Spellbinders Precision Layering Basics Dies!  Last week, I introduced you to the Mini Slimline Basics Dies.  Today, I want to share the A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) Precision Layering Basics Dies.  This set of 16 thin metal dies creates precise layers for your A2-size (4.25 x 5.5-inches) cards. It will cut perfectly spaced layers of 1/8-inch. When combined with the S5-494 Precision Layering A2 B set, you will achieve a 1/16-inch border. No more measuring, the work is done for you!

How to Create a Shaker Frame with Precision Layering Dies

Since I tend to make larger 5″ x 7″ and 6″ x 6″ cards, I looked for a way to use these dies on a larger card base.  After a little thinking and experimenting with scraps, I realized that you can use these dies to create fabulous frames and shaker frames on larger card bases!  Eureka!  Here’s how to quickly and easily create a shaker frame with the A2 Precision Layering Dies.

  • First, figure out how large you want your frame opening to be.  I decided a 3 1/8″ x 4 3/8″ opening would give me the “window” I wanted.  So I selected the Layer 5 die from the “B” set.
  • Now select the Layer 1 die from the B set.  This will give you a 1/2″ border on your frame, making it easy to add foam tape around the sides.
  • Next, center the Layer 5 die inside the Layer 1 Die on your piece of patterned paper.  Secure with a little tape on the sides to keep everything neat and square.
  • Now die cut!
  • Cut a piece of clear cardstock with the Layer 1 die and adhere to the back of the frame.
  • Finally, add 3 layers of foam tape to the back of the frame.  Place your shaker elements on your background paper and press the frame in place.

How easy is that?

Cinch and Go Blossom Flowers

Spellbinders Amazing Paper Grace Cinch and Go Blossoms by Kathy Clement Photo 01

If you missed the Cinch and Go Blossoms Flower Shaping Tutorial on Make & Take Tuesday, you can watch it now to see how I made these lovely flowers.  This time, I added a flat back pearl to the center of each flower.  I used a teacup die from my stash because it fit the card better than the new APG DOM January  Teacup Die.

A Peek Inside

Die cut a smaller teacup from patterned paper to dress up the top half of the card.

Naturally, I added a treat pocket.  Don’t I always add a treat pocket?

This one has a sweet bookmark, tea bag, honey stick and chocolate tucked inside.

I hope I’ve inspired you to break out your crafting goodies and make something beautiful today!  You can find this card in my ETSY shop, too.
