Graphic 45 Flower Market Folio Tutorial Part 2: Finishing the February Folio

Hello, Friends!  Just as I promised, here’s the Graphic 45 Flower Market Folio Tutorial Part 2.  We introduced this new “through the year” calendar folio series on Tuesday.  If you missed that post, you can get caught up HERE.

The first part of this tutorial will show you how to create the folio base.  We’ll be using this same basic design for each month in 2023, so it’s good to watch that first segment before you dig into today’s post.

Pansies are one of my favorite flowers.  Their cheery faces never fail to make me smile.  And, they are such hardy little blooms!  Here in North Carolina they can bloom from October all the way into early May.  So I’m very happy that Graphic 45 made them the featured blossom in their gorgeous Flower Market paper collection.

February’s “Guest Stars”

In addition to the G45 February papers, I chose 2 other paper collections to serve as our “guest stars”.  Heartfelt Creations Burst of Spring and Prima Darcelle work beautifully with these gorgeous botanicals.

I’m really enjoying digging into my stash to find patterns from other collections that flow well with the Flower Market collection.

The darker purple tones in Darcelle add a much needed contrast to the G45 papers.  Plus, it’s always fun to use up papers from my stash.

If you don’t have Burst of Spring or Darcelle in your Closet of Inspiration and Delight, then I’m sure you can find a suitable substitute.

Graphic 45 Flower Market Folio Tutorial: First in our 2023 Calendar Folio Series

Hello, Friends!  It’s Make & Take Tuesday and time to share this Graphic 45 Flower Market Folio Tutorial with you.  This is going to be our Calendar Folio series for 2023!  Each month, I’ll share a fresh tutorial using these lovely papers.  Sound like fun?

What a beautiful paper collection this is!  Because the images and patterns are quite large, I decided that instead of a little card folio, we’d make an 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ flip/flap folio this year.  The design is really fun, easy to construct, and loaded with possibilities.

If you are a gardener or a lover of botanical prints, I think you will really enjoy this series.  Today I’m going to introduce the papers and the designs, show you how to make the folio base, and start decorating the February folio.  Since I had to use the January papers to come up with the folio design, there’s not a step by step for January.  But you can use the photos for January with the measurements from February and all will be well.

A Peek Inside

These large folios are perfect for record-keeping, storing receipts, documenting monthly events and a beautiful decoration for your office or craft room.  Of course they are loaded with pockets and interactive pages, because that’s what makes them fun!

Since each month in the collection only has 2 pages (one pattern, one cut apart) I had to get innovative and bring in other papers to complete the folio design.  The January folio pairs up beautifully with Graphic 45 Cottage Life.  So if  you have that collection in your stash, this is a great way to use it!

It’s amazing how well the images and color palette of these two collections work together.

I plan to share the Graphic 45 Flower Market Folio Tutorial for March in February, the April folio in March and so on and so forth so that you will have time to create them before the new month turns over.

I also used the Graphic 45 dies to create special pockets, envelopes, file folders and butterfly embellishments within each folio.

Don’t you love that the February flowers are pansies?  This is the folio we will build together in the step by step tutorial below.

The companion papers for this folio are from Heartfelt Creations Burst of Spring paper pad.  It’s amazing how well they work with the February designs and colors.

I also pulled in some patterns from Prima Darcelle.  This folio is purple-icious!

Sharing two folios in one month made for a very long video tutorial.  So I’ve broken it into two parts.  Part 1, which we will share today, features a walk through of the papers and the finished January folio.

Are you ready to get your craft on?  Please enjoy part 1 of this 2-part video tutorial.

I’ll be back on Thursday with the 2nd tutorial.

Prima Darcelle Hello Friendship Card Folio

Prima Darcelle Hello Friendship Card for Really Reasonable Ribbon by Kathy Clement Photo 01

Prima Darcelle Hello Friendship Card Folio for Really Reasonable Ribbon

Hello, Friends!  If you are a fan of the color purple, I think you’re going to enjoy this Prima Darcelle Hello Friendship Card Folio.  This frilly, fancy card is all dressed up with luscious ribbons from the Really Reasonable Ribbon February Club Assortment.  I’ve had such a good time with these pretty ribbons this month, and I had just enough of the Light Orchid Diamond Satin to make just one more poufy bow!

Purples can be  hard to match, so I used lots of different shades in this fancy card.

A bit of gold metallic string tucked into the bow cluster picks up on the gold foil accents in the flower centers,  paper and washi tape border.

A Peek Inside

I love to find ways to use ribbon inside my cards, too. Light Orchid  Swiss Dots Satin serves as a closure for the flap page on the top half of the card.  And look at all the yummy chocolate in the pocket!

TIP:  To make the flap page, cut the patterned paper wider than the base of the card.  I added 3 1/4″ to the 5″ base so that I could add a sneaky hidden tea back pocket behind the flap.

Along with the chocolates, honey stick and post card in the pocket, I created this sweet bookmark.  (Yes…I am learning how to make my own tassels!  Woo-hoo!) Stitch bits and bobs of patterned paper onto a canvas rectangle, then fringe the canvas for a pretty homespun look.

How you do feel about purple?  I find myself liking this sophisticated, regal color more and more all the time.  I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Prima Darcelle Milestone Birthday Card Folio

Prima Darcelle Milestone Birthday Card Folio with Really Reasonable Ribbon

Hello, Friends!  How about a little Prima Darcelle pretty purple vintage typewriter to start your day off with a smile?  This milestone birthday card folio is a great way to celebrate a milestone birthday.

Purple is one of those colors that people usually have strong feelings about.  You either love it, or you don’t!  Personally, I have grown to appreciate the many hues that purple has to offer.  It lends a richness and a sense of royalty where ever it shows up.

TIP: Lighten up the darker hues of this Prima Darcelle  paper with a 3/8″ Grape Plaid Bow.  This ribbon 3/8″ Grape Plaid from the RRR April Ribbon Club Assortment made the prettiest triple loop bow!

TIP: Add lots of depth to your layers by separating them with foam dimensionals.

TIP:  To create the “sugar” in this spoon embellishment follow these simple steps:

  • First, fill the bowl of the spoon with hot glue.
  • Next, place the spoon in a funnel tray or over a clean sheet of printer paper.
  • Now, sprinkle Distress Glitter over the hot glue.  When the glue dries, you have a spoon full of “sugar.”
Prima Darcelle Milestone Birthday Card Folio: A Peek Inside

Create a box style pocket inside the card.  Now you can fill it with all kinds of birthday treats.  The card is now the gift!

Here’s a beautiful vintage silver plate spoon, and a little chocolate treat.

Milestone birthdays are often accompanied by birthday parties.  So I created a little accordion style photo album to tuck inside the pocket along with the tea bag and honey stick.

Now you can capture all the memories of that special day in style.

Tell me: how do you feel about the color purple?  Love it?  Avoid it at all costs?  I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below.
