Graphic 45 Flower Market September Folio Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  For this week’s Make and Take Tuesday, I have our Graphic 45 Flower Market September Folio Tutorial ready to share with you.  This is the 9th folio in  this year-long series!  Can you even believe it? If you are new to the blog, you can catch up on the previous 8 months of folio tutorials HERE.

Asters are the featured flower for our September folio, and they are so pretty paired up with Cloudy Sky and Dune cardstock!  Once again, our folio measures 8 1/2″ square with 3/8″ spines, internal flaps, pockets and flip pages.

Authentique Stitches Guest Star of the Month

Our “guest star” for the month of September is the Stitches collection from Authentique.  The pinks and blue hues are the perfect complement to the G45 papers. While the basic folio design is the same as in previous months, I did alter the design of the top flap page just a little.  You know me…I get bored if I do the same thing all the time!

In addition to the G45 dies that we’ve been using every month, I invited my Annette Green Everyday Elements dies to the party.  I’ll list the borders, flourishes, postage stamp and doily dies in the supply list below.

Of course, if you don’t have Stitches or the dies in your stash, please feel free to substitute goodies from your stash.  It always feels good to use a product that’s been languishing in the Closet of Inspiration and Delight, don’t you agree?

Pockets and Mini Folios

Don’t  you love the way the Authentique papers blend with the Flower Market florals?

Flowers and sewing are two of my favorite crafting themes, so I really enjoyed putting this month’s folio together for you.  I hope you’ll have as much fun with it as I did.

Honey and Bee Trifold Card Folio Tutorial

Honey and Bee Trifold Card Folio Tutorial with Elizabeth Craft Designs and Reneabouquets

Hello, Friends!  For today’s Throwback Thursday post I’ve prepared a sweet Honey and Bee Trifold Card Folio Tutorial.  Buzzing Bees, Boho style blossoms and a lovely beehive make this the perfect summertime project.  I dug out my Elizabeth Craft Designs “Everythings Blooming” dies and some Reneabouquets goodies to my crafty adventure.  A good time was  had by all.

Playful Flowers

These cheery sunflowers are made with the Everythings Blooming Playful Flowers die.  Cut the base flower and ink it up with Mustard Seed and Scattered Straw Distress Ink.  Then cut the looped flower and ink it up with Fossilized Amber Distress Ink.  I used the “smoosh, spritz and dip” method to color both layers.  Here’s how that process works:

  • First, smoosh the ink pad onto a non-stick craft sheet. You can do both colors at the same time.
  • Next, spritz the ink with water until beads formed.
  • Now, dip the layers into the inky puddles to pick up all that luscious color.
  • Then heat dry or leave to dry overnight.  When dry, ink the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  You can even very lightly pounce the used blender tool over the surface oof the flower layers to create shadows.
  • Next, place a foam tab between the two layers.
  • Finish with a vintage button center.
Beehive and Stemmed Flowers

Create layers on your card with the Postage Stamp and Lace Borders Dies.  I like to layer the borders with two complementary colors of cardstock to create a shadow effect.

Color the stemmed flowers by rubbing the ink pad directly onto the die cut.  The same technique works really well for the honeycomb die.  Then spritz lightly with water to soften the finish.  Scatter mustard seeds from the kitchen around to add some extra texture.  The fun thing about mustard seeds is that they look a lot like bee pollen, so that works really well with the card design.

Creating the Folio Base

This is such an easy base to build.  Here’s the how-to:

  • First, cut (2) 8 1/2″ x 5″ panels of heavy pink cardstock.  Score one panel at 7″ and 7 1/8″.  You will have a flap on one end.
  • Place adhesive on the scored flap, then overlap the second panel and press to join.
  • Score a 1/2″ flap on a scrap of your green cardstock and adhere to the right hand side of your folio base.  The flap will be covered up by designer paper.

That’s it!  So easy!

A Peek Inside

You can see the added flap in this photo.  Turn it into a pocket, dress it up with another border piece, ephemera and stickers, then add a packet of wildflower seeds and a honey stick .  The left hand panel is jut a cute collage page with a little tuck spot for tags and ephemera.

Add more Stemmed Flowers behind the flap, and a tiny pocket for tea.  You can see that I layered scraps of my designer paper on the right.  This is one of my favorite ways to use up those small paper scraps.  The Large Doily serves as a frame for my mini collage made with more ephemera and stickers.

Everythings Blooming Stacked Stamped Teacups

Everythings Blooming Stacked Stamped Teacups with G45 Time to Flourish Scraps

Hello, Friends!  I’m just popping in very quickly today to share this Everything’s Blooming Stacked Stamped Teacups Easel Card.  After making my June Banner of the Month, I had a few scraps of Graphic 45 Time to Flourish paper left on my desk.  Rather than pack the lovely bits and pieces away to be forgotten, I decided to make this tea themed project. It turned out so nicely, that I thought you might enjoy seeing it, too.

Tea themed projects are amongst my favorites, so I knew I wanted to die cut a pretty teacup as the focal image for my card.  But patterned paper was in short supply, and plain die cuts just looked so, well…plain.  What to do?

What if I stamped and embossed the teacups with my Everythings Blooming stamps?  Figuring it was worth a try, I went to work.

How to Make Stamped Stacked Teacups

  • First, die cut 3 teacups from complementary cardstock.  I used Tim Holtz Bigz Die for this.
  • Next, ink up your Happy text stamp with Coffee Archival Ink and stamp the die cuts.
  • Now ink up the Happy Fern with Versamark Ink and stamp over the text on the blue teacup.  Then heat emboss with Super Fine Copper Embossing Powder.
  • Then ink up your Bloom stamps with Versamark and stamp the foliage on the pink cups.  Heat emboss.
  • Stamp the saucers with the Happy branches and heat emboss.
  • Now you can stack your teacups with foam tape spacers and decorate as desired.

EMBOSSING TIP: For clean embossing, tap your surface with an embossing buddy before stamping.  This will keep the embossing powder from sticking in places where you don’t want it to show up.

DESIGN TIP: Die cut a Large Doily to sit behind the stacked teacups.  This helps them to stand out from the background.  Then die cut the Fancy Flourishes to add an extra layer of interest to the patterned paper background.

A Peek Inside

Here’s a quick peek at the inside.  As you can see, the pocket serves as the stopper or brake for the easel mechanism.  I had to paper piece the small pocket together because the panel was too short.  But adding a little side pocket allowed me to tuck in a scrappy bookmark, so it all worked out well!

TIP: The June ledger card is too tall to fit in the pocket.  But you can score and fold it, then tuck in a little tea bag treat.  Stamp Daily Happiness and heat emboss.  Then adhere it to the flap.

Here’s the sweet little bookmark I created by stitching strips of patterned paper together on a cardstock background.  Topped with a bit of lace, button and snippet of ribbon, it works well!

I hope I’ve shared some ideas you can use in your next crafty adventure.  What was your favorite tip in today’s post?

Hello, Friends!  Believe it or not, it’s time to share our June 2023 Banner Tutorial!  Once again we’re using the June papers from Graphic 45’s Time to Flourish 12×12 and 8×8 paper pads. We’ll dress it up with some lovely Reneabouquets printed beautiful board. And, I’m changing things up a bit this month with the addition of Annette Green’s Elizabeth Craft Designs Everything’s Blooming collection.  Sound like fun?  Well, grab a cuppa and a snack and let’s get this Throwback Thursday post rolling.

If you are new to the blog, you might like to know that we are sharing a Banner of the Month tutorial each month during 2023.  You can find the previous banner tutorials HERE.

Birdies and Butterflies

Graphic 45 Time to Flourish June Banner Tutorial-Reneabouquets-ECD Everythings Blooming, Kathy Clement-Kathy by Design-Photo 01

The month of June is all about birdies and butterflies, and you will find them on this banner everywhere you look !  From the itty bitty Reneabouquets Mason Jar butterfly, to the glitter glass butterflies they flit around amongst the flowers.  Then, there are Annette’s Everything’s Blooming birdies.  Cut from designer paper and used as a silhouette form, they are extra sweet.

The birds are happily perched on a flowering branch resting above Reneabouquets April in Paris doilies.

The Shaker Element

Reneabouquets Shaker Frame

I’ve used one of my favorite Reneabouquets Frames on the center pennant.  By cutting an acetate circle to fit the back of the frame, I was able to turn it into a shaker element.

When you watch the tutorial, you’ll see how I repeated the themes to create a sort of story line for the banner.  This might be my favorite banner so far this year, but then you know how much I love birds and butterflies!

**Please note: Throwback Thursday posts are designed to inspire us to dig into our stash and use what we have on hand.  For this reason, sometimes an item I’ve used has been retired or is out of stock.  When this happens, please just look in your stash and find a good substitute.

Honeybee Shaker Card with Custom Dyed Ribbon

Honeybee Shaker Card with Custom Dyed Ribbon

Hello, Friends!  Bees are buzzing and flowers are blooming, so I’m popping in to share this Honeybee Shaker Card with Custom Dyed Ribbon.  It’s adorned with Ribbon, Metallic String and Pastel Sweetheart Blossoms from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

You might recognize this Elizabeth Craft Designs Honeybee from an earlier post.  This time I dressed her up in shades of aqua and coral.  She’s headed for the spring flowers inside that shaker frame for sure!

Create the shaker frame with an Everythings Blooming Large Doily.  Die cut a circle from acetate and adhere to the back.  Then add 3 layers of foam tape and press over your selection of sequins, buttons and beads.

Die cut the honeycomb from patterned paper.   Keep the punch out pieces, flip to the reverse side and glue inside the cells. You can also scatter some sequins in for a touch of sparkle.

Custom Dyed Seam Binding Ribbon to the Rescue!

What do you do when you don’t have perfect shade of ribbon in your stash?  I turn to my white seam binding ribbon!  Then I pull out my Distress Inks and add just the colors I want.  Here’s how.

  • First, cut about 1 yard of white seam binding ribbon.
  • Next, select 3 complementary shades of Distress Ink. For this card, I chose Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Fossilized Amber.
  • Swipe the Distress Ink Pads on a non-stick craft sheet, then mist with water until small color droplets form.
  • Dip the seam binding ribbon through the inky puddles.  Don’t swipe, or the colors will get muddy.
  • Dry the ribbon with a heat gun between applications, and repeat until you are happy with the final result.
  • If your ribbon is wrinkled, you can iron with a warm iron.  But I like the crinkles!
  • Now tie your pretty bow and top with Iridescent Metallic String.
A Peek Inside

Add a cute side pocket inside your card, then fill with a mini note card and packet of wildflower seeds.

Create a cute little tag with Honeybee and Bloom stamps from the Everything’s Blooming release.  Tie waxed linen thread around the top and add a bee charm to complete the theme.
