Simple Stories Little Things Box Pocket Folio Tutorial

Simple Stories Little Things Box Pocket Folio Tutorial for Make & Take Tuesday

Hello, Friends!  I’m a little late getting this Simple Stories Little Things Box Pocket Folio Tutorial out to you for today’s Make & Take Tuesday.  I took a couple of days off over the weekend because I was tired!  It felt good to get caught up on laundry, read a book, go for a drive and relax for a bit.  Even though I’m late getting this out today, I think you will still really enjoy the project.  It’s a darling little box style folio  that’s really easy to make.

Transitioning a Summer Collection into a Fall Project

Simple Stories Little Things Box Folio Kathy Clement

Little Thing is technically a summer collection filled with lemon images, and soft summer colors.  But I didn’t get the collection until summer was nearly over, and even then I didn’t have time to use it…until now.  I needed to find a way to make this summery collection feel appropriate for the current season.

So I focused on the yellow gold, black and red tones, plaid patterns and used just a touch of floral papers.  I think it worked really well.  If you die cut the  shaker frame from yellow gold cardstock, back with strips of black cardstock and accent with the cute black floral teapot, it really sells the changing of the seasons.  Or at least, I think it does.  What do you think?

A Peek Inside: Flip Flap Folio

This is a very easy folio base to create, but easy doesn’t mean boring.  It’s loaded with fun flips and flaps.

There’s even a hidden pocket behind the gatefold closure.

And a fun mini waterfall feature, too!

The Box Pocket

The box pocket is scored into the folio base design so it’s super quick and easy to make: just add the sides!  Then you can fill it up with cute goodies like cookies, a vintage demitasse spoon, ladybug tag, honey stick and a mini folio.

There’s room inside the mini folio to add a Pumpkin Spice tea bag…which also  helps with the seasonal transition!

How to Make a Southern Magnolia Paper Flower

How to Make a Southern Magnolia Paper Flower with Spellbinders Victorian Garden

Hello, Friends! Today I’m going to show you how to make a Southern Magnolia Paper Flower.  If you’re lucky enough to live in a region where  magnolias trees grow, then you understand what a treasure they are. These showy, oversized, fragrant blossoms are true Southern Belles! When we had our magnolia tree, I used to pluck the blossoms and float them in shallow bowls of water.  The soft fragrance filled the house, and the beauty of that enormous blossom added a sense of grace to the home.  Picking the leaves up from the yard every day was not as wonderful, but the flowers were so beautiful, we forgave the tree for making all that mess!

Project #1: Eyelet Lace Frame Top Fold Card

Spellbinders has just released a new set of Susan’s Garden etched dies called Victorian Garden.  I shared some Mason Jar & Lavender and Victorian Tea Cup projects made with these amazing dies over the weekend.  Today we’ll be working with the Southern Magnolia and Southern Foliage Dies.

Creating paper flowers is a very relaxing and rewarding pursuit.   I’ve put together a Make & Take Tuesday tutorial showing you how I colored, shaped and layered these elements so you can have fun, too!

Here’s a peek inside my first card.  Both cards are made with Simple Stories Weathered Garden papers, but you can use whatever papers you have in your stash.

Project #2: Southern Magnolia and Foliage Easel Card

The second sample I have for you today is this botanical easel card. One of the things I love about this particular flower is that you only need to add one blossom to dress up a card.  I’ve layered this one with some of the Victorian foliage and dressed it up with a Reneabouquet’s butterfly.

TIP:  Add a pocket to the interior of your easel card.  This gives you a place to tuck in a gift card or a treat and it also doubles as a brake for the easel mechanism.

I created a little chocolate wallet to hold a tasty treat, and I added a blank sentiment card to finish things off.

Simple Stories Weathered Garden Party in a Box Tutorial for Make & Take Tuesday

Hello, Friends!  For this episode of Make & Take Tuesday, I’m sharing a lovely Simple Stories Weathered Garden Party in a Box Tutorial.  If you love soft botanicals, butterflies, tea and chocolate, I predict you are going to be very happy today!

This 5 1/4″ x 7 1/4″ top fold Party in a Box also features the lovely Eyelet Lace Frame Die from Spellbinders.  It’s stunning die cut from cream paper and spattered with chalk paint!

Don’t let this photo of the finished card intimidate you!  This is such a simple card to make.  The dies (and the tutorial!) do most of the heavy lifting.  All you need to do is add flowers, ribbon and a few paint spatters for a stunning finish.

This is my first time playing with layered stickers from Simple Stories, and I like them!  Add dimension to the focal image with a layered butterfly sticker.  Then create a touch of whimsy in the floral cluster with that darling little clipboard sticker.  How could I resist?

A Peek Inside

How much do we love this paper collection?  Oh, so much!  I had fun creating this flap page on the top of the card…and you will, too!

What’s behind door #1?  This sweet little pull out folio and side car pocket, that’s what!  You’ll learn how to make it in the video tutorial below.

Learn some of my favorite sneaky tricks as we make the card together.  I mentioned last week that Make & Take Tuesdays are similar to a live cooking show.  Anything can happen!

This collection is just filled to the brim with lovely images.  I think you will like seeing how I added my own personal touches to them in the video.

Then, of course, you can’t have a Party in a Box without some lovely little treats!  Use your scraps to create a darling note card.  Then wrap the treats in other small scraps.  The end result is a gorgeous gift that will make everyone remark on how clever you are!

If you’d like to see how this project comes together, please grab a cuppa and enjoy this video tutorial.  I’m still struggling a bit with my voice, but I managed to get this one over the finish line in spite of it!

Loads of Love Shaker Card

Spellbinders Eyelet Lace Loads of Love Shaker Card by Kathy Clement Prima My Sweet Photo 01

Loads of Love Shaker Card with Spellbinders Eyelet Lace , Reneabouquets and Prima My Sweet

Hello, Friends!  Today I’m sending you a Loads of Love Shaker Card made with all sorts of frilly pink paper pretties.  Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it, so it’s time to put away all the Christmas craft supplies.  I reached into my stash of Prima My Sweet papers because I just love this darling vintage pickup truck.  Paired up with a frilly Eyelet Lace Die and some adornments from Reneabouquets, it’s about as pinkalicious as a card can get!

Believe it or not, I don’t think I’ve ever made a shaped card base before.  It was easier to do than anticipated!  I just made sure to place the left hand cutting blades so that they did not touch the side fold of my card.  Then I die cut!  Next, I die cut another panel, but this time I place the frame insert inside the die so that I would have a shaker window to work with.

After I adhered clear cardstock and foam tape to the back of the frame, I simply centered and adhere it to the shaped card base.

The finishing touch was a bit of ribbon, deep pink roses and a flirty butterfly.

A Peek Inside

Look how pretty the inside of the shaped card base turned out.  You will have to trim the inside panels of patterned paper just a little to make them fit, but that’s easy!

Add a little note card, a little tea bag and a honey stick, and you’ve got a sweet Valentine!

I love how easy it was to turn this die into a big shaker window.  There are a few other ideas rolling around in my brain, and if I can grab a few extra minutes in the studio, I’ll try to make them come to life!
