Spellbinders Amazing Paper Grace March 2022 Die of the Month Stamperia Flower Alphabet Kathy Clement Photo 01

I love how well this beautiful die works as a frame on a focal image.  Here’s how I created the frame.

  • First, layer all the dies on a sheet of Coredinations Whitewash Pastel Green Cardstock.  Use a bit of tape to hold all those layers in place.
  • Then die cut using your  machine’s sandwich instructions.
  • Next, die cut all the layers a second time.  This time use the back side of the Coredinations cardstock.
  • Now, remove the square from the center of the die and set aside.  Do the same with the small medallion piece.
  • Then layer the whitewashed side of the filigree frame over the reverse side of the Coredinations filigree frame.  Offset the two frames slightly to create a shadow effect.
  • Repeat this step with the small square and medallion pieces.
  • Brush the pieces with Art Institute Dries Clear Glitter Glue and sprinkle with Crystal Clear Glitter Flakes. Set aside to dry.
  • Now cut an image from Stamperia Flower Alphabet pad to fit inside the frame and adhere to the back side.

How easy is that?

Decorate the frame with a glittered butterfly, crystal swirls, garden roses and ribbon.  Vintage stick pins add a lovely vintage touch.

Stamp the sentiment on vellum and heat emboss with Rose Gold Embossing Powder.  Dress up the stopper with more flowers, the small medallion piece and a resin crown.

A Peek Inside

Here’s a look at the inside of the card.  The small square frame is just the right size to fit the front of a handmade vellum envelope.  Tuck this behind the medallion to hold it in place.

Insert a little tag inside the envelope, or add a gift card.

Really Reasonable Ribbon February Blog Hop:  Stamperia Flower Alphabet Springtime Folio

Hello, Friends!  This Stamperia Flower Alphabet Springtime Folio is my inspiration piece for the Really Reasonable Ribbon February 2022 Blog Hop.  You should be arriving here filled with inspiration after visiting Ginny’s beautiful blog. Stamperia Flower Alphabet Springtime Folio

The ribbon club is so lovely this month, that I had a hard time choosing which ribbons to work with.  A quick tour through my springtime papers revealed this gorgeous Flower Alphabet collection from Stamperia.  The daisy images were the perfect match for the ribbons in the club.

The folio measures 7″ x 7″ to accommodate the large images in the paper collection.

Dressing the front of the folio up with lace panels, creamy ivory florals, Reneabouquets Beautiful Board and those gorgeous Daisies on Green Satin Ribbon made for a pretty scene.  A Grape Taffeta Ribbon closure adds a pop of color and helps bring out the colors in the chipboard.

I just love the way all these elements work together.  It makes me feel like I’m looking out the window, watching spring unfold its beauty.

A Peek Inside

The inside of the folio has a slash pocket filled with pretty treasures, and a side pocket filled with tasty treats.

More Details

This little flap page has a side opening and a bottom opening.

There’s a secret message inside the flap.

And room for photos when you lift the front cover up.

The pretty center panel is a waterfall mechanism with a spring arbor hidden beneath.

TIP: Add strength and beauty to the album spine by wrapping it with 3/8″ Green and Purple Plaid Satin ribbon from the Club.

Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio

Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio with Stamperia Lilac and Flower Alphabet

Hello, Friends!  Today I have a sweet Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio to share with you.  The latest challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog is being hosted by my incredibly talented friend, Sara Emily.  Her challenge theme is “Pass the Tissues,Please”  and requires you to use tissue paper or rice paper in your project.  We’ll take a look at my journal in a moment, but first. let’s see what Sara has to say about this interesting challenge.

Challenge Theme: Pass the Tissues, Please!
Since we are still in ‘cold season’, I always make sure I’m stocked up on tissues in my home, in my purse and in the car. For this theme, I would like to see how you incorporate tissue paper into your vintage or shabby chic project. You can use regular tissues, tissue wrapping paper, sewing patterns or even collage paper, rice papers or tissue wrap designed especially for crafting.

Sound like fun?  I thought so!  Let’s dive in!

Finnabair Art Tissue, Stamperia Lilac, Flower Alphabet Soup

For me, every project idea starts with designer paper.  I flipped through my stash of gorgeous Stamperia papers and could not choose between Lilac and Flower Alphabet.  So I used them both in the creation of this 5″ x 7″ wrap style folio.   The base is made by scoring a 7″ x 18″ piece of 18 pt. Grocery Bag Cardstock into three 5″ panels with a quarter inch spine between.  I chose to work with this because of its strength and ability to stand up to mixed media treatments.

NOTE: If I had it to do over again, I would  have scored 3/4″ spines to allow the folio to close with ease.  This one is as snug as your grandpa’s belt after Thanksgiving dinner.

TIP: You can create your own oversized cardstock by joining two panels of Dina Wakely Media Kraft Cardstock with Scor-Tape.

My tissue paper choice is this Finnabair Art Alchemy Musica paper from Prima.  The spring greens and lilac shades are a perfect color match for the two Stamperia collections.

Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio: The Process

Stamperia Lilac Flower Alphabet Tissue Wrapped Journal Tim Holtz Lace Baseboard Frame Heartfelt Creations Lush Lilac by Kathy Clement for The Funkie Junkie Boutique Photo 02

Here’s how I wrapped the folio with the tissue.  It’s a pretty simple process.

  • First, open a sheet of the Finnabair tissue and lay it face down on your work surface.
  • Next, cover the face of the folio base with Distress Collage medium.  You will need to work quickly as this medium is fast drying.
  • Now, center the folio base face down over the tissue paper, keeping it as straight as you can. Gently brayer over the paper to seal it to the base.
  • At this point, I folded the tissue paper over the interior of the folio to see how much I should trim away.  I wanted it to completely cover the folio interior without excessive overlap.
  • Next, cut “v” slits in the 4 corners of the tissue paper to make it easier to wrap and fold it over the folio interior.  This is done the same way as you would if you were wrapping a mini album cover with paper.
  • Now, brush the inside of the folio base with a good layer of Distress collage medium, then fold the tissue paper to the inside of the folio.  You will have overlap, and that is fine.  Just keep adding Distress Collage Medium until all the edges are sealed.
  • Finally, use a brayer to gently seal the tissue paper to the folio surface.  Carefully fold along the score lines and then walk away and let everything dry.

TIP: Dry time is essential!  Damp tissue paper tears.

Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio: Rice Paper Overlay

I cut a medallion from some Stamperia Rice Paper that I had in my stash, and layered that over the folio front.  Then I brayered  and spattered small amounts of Distress paint to create a more aged appearance.  Next I applied two coats of clear Gesso.  After this, I applied Distress Oxide Inks through a Stamperia stencil, followed by Distress Opaque Crackle Texture.  The crackle medium picks up color from the Oxide Ink and the end result is so pretty.

Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio: The Frame and Flowers

I am loving the new Tim Holtz Lace Baseboard Frames!  They alter beautifully!

TIP: Use scraps of rice paper to decorate the frame.

To alter the frame, I brushed it with Oxide Inks, spattered with Distress Paints and misted with Mica Spray.   The image is from the Flower Alphabet Collection.  I pulled out some Heartfelt Creations Lilac stamps and dies to make the flowers and leaves.  Vintage lace and buttons from my stash add the perfect finishing touch.
