Stamperia Alice ATC Tea Box Mini Album Tutorial for Frilly and Funkie Saturday Showcase

Hello, Friends! As promised, I’m back today with this Stamperia Alice ATC Tea Box Mini Album Tutorial. It’s being featured on the Frilly & Funkie Challenge Blog Saturday Showcase Feature today, but I thought I would share it here with you as well.

I’ve already shared a sneak peek of the project with you, and you can review that HERE if you wish. But why don’t you grab a cuppa and a snack, and we’ll dive into this photo and information heavy post.

Stamperia Alice ATC Tea Box Mini Album Tutorial: ATC Box Details and Tips

Pop a fussy cut teapot up on foam dots, then add a Graphic 45 Die Cut Clock behind it to create a feeling of depth and dimension. The clock die is a perfect fit for the box.

The base is a Graphic 45 ATC Book Box, which is too cute for words! To create the tag closure, simply follow these easy steps:

First, score two of the ATC tags that come in the box 1 1/2″ from the domed edge. Fold and burnish well.
Next, use the Graphic 45 ATC tag die to cut 4 liners for the tags (front and back for each tag). Adhere these to the tags, then score, fold and burnish a second time.
Now center and adhere the tags to the box lid and bottom. See? I told you it was easy!

I’ve added a spoon from my collection to decorate the spine. Glossy Accents works really well for this. To make the bun feet, follow these simple steps:

First, adhere two 1″ wooden bingo chips together.
Next, wrap the outside edge with 1/2″ Scor-Tape.
Then, cut a 5/8″ strip of designer paper from scraps and wrap it around the Scor-Tape. Done!

Because you have to fit the ATC Mini Album inside the box, you will have to keep the elements fairly flat so that the lid will close. So I fussy cut and layered a few simple elements from the collection onto the front, then tied the bow. Easy peasy.

Stamperia Alice ATC Tea Box Mini Album Tutorial: The ATC Mini Album

The 2 3/4″ x 3 5/8″ mini album is slightly larger than regulation ATC size, but close enough for me. You will learn how to custom build it to fit inside the G45 ATC box.

Wrap burlap around the spine. This not only looks great, but it helps to strengthen the integrity of the spine. Then attach ribbon with 1/2″ Scor-Tape to serve as a closure mechanism.

Stamperia Alice ATC Tea Box Mini Album Tutorial: Interactive Features

The trick to creating a small album with 12×12 papers is making things fit. To solve this, I scored border pieces like this 12″ strip then accordion folded to make it fit.

On the reverse side, I added sentiment tea bag tags that I’ve been saving.

The album is made up of (3) 2 1/2″ x 3 5/8″ page units. Each page unit is actually 4 separate pages with flap features or turn pages and a pocket. I tucked a tea bag into the pocket of each page unit.

The left hand page is a 2 1/4″ wide strip of designer paper from the collection. It is nearly three times the height of the page. In order to use it, I scored it into 3 sections, cut tab corners, added magnets and folded to create a little folio to hold ATC cards. The page on the right has a fun turn tab feature.

Belly Bands are a quick and easy way to add interest to an album. Just score 1/2″ flaps on each side of a scrap piece of paper, then tuck tags from the paper collection behind it. The right hand page is actually a bookmark that I turned into a fold down page.

How fun is that?

This flap page lifts to reveal a pocket and teacup.

This fussy cut teapot is scored in half. Then I glued the right hand half to the page, folded it, and added adhesive to the left hand side. Close the page, and voila! It’s perfectly set!

Cutting Guide

For the box: Graphic 45 ATC Box

Inside box
- (2) 3 7/8″ x 2 1/8″ for long sides
- (2) 2 7/8″ x 2 1/8″ for short sides
- (1) 2 3.4″ x 3 3/4″ for box bottom
- (1) 2 1/4″ x 4 5/8″ for inside spine
- (1) 3 1/4″ x 4 5/8″ for inside cover
- Cut the playing cards to 2 1/4″ high and wrap around the outside box.
Outside box
- (2) 3 1/2″ x 4 5/8″ for lid and bottom
- (1) 2 3/8″ x 4 5/8″ for outer spine

For the Album

(2) 2 3/4″ x 3 3/4″ Chipboard Covers
(1) 1 1/2″ x 3 3/4″ spine
9 1/4″ x 4 3/4″ kraft paper to cover the chipboard covers
7 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ kraft paper for the spine mechanism
- score on the long side at 1 1/2, then (9) 1/2″ scores

Page Units

5″ x 7 1/4″ Score on the short side at 2 1/2″ , long side fold in half and pinch, then score. Each page unit will measure 2 1/2″ x 3 5/8″ when folded.
Page liners: 2 3/8″ x 3 1/2″
Fold out pages: 12″ x 2 1/4″. Score every 2 3/8″ then trim

Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio with Stamperia Lilac and Flower Alphabet

Hello, Friends! Today I have a sweet Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio to share with you. The latest challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog is being hosted by my incredibly talented friend, Sara Emily. Her challenge theme is “Pass the Tissues,Please” and requires you to use tissue paper or rice paper in your project. We’ll take a look at my journal in a moment, but first. let’s see what Sara has to say about this interesting challenge.

Challenge Theme: Pass the Tissues, Please!
Since we are still in ‘cold season’, I always make sure I’m stocked up on tissues in my home, in my purse and in the car. For this theme, I would like to see how you incorporate tissue paper into your vintage or shabby chic project. You can use regular tissues, tissue wrapping paper, sewing patterns or even collage paper, rice papers or tissue wrap designed especially for crafting.

Sound like fun? I thought so! Let’s dive in!

Finnabair Art Tissue, Stamperia Lilac, Flower Alphabet Soup

For me, every project idea starts with designer paper. I flipped through my stash of gorgeous Stamperia papers and could not choose between Lilac and Flower Alphabet. So I used them both in the creation of this 5″ x 7″ wrap style folio. The base is made by scoring a 7″ x 18″ piece of 18 pt. Grocery Bag Cardstock into three 5″ panels with a quarter inch spine between. I chose to work with this because of its strength and ability to stand up to mixed media treatments.

NOTE: If I had it to do over again, I would have scored 3/4″ spines to allow the folio to close with ease. This one is as snug as your grandpa’s belt after Thanksgiving dinner.

TIP: You can create your own oversized cardstock by joining two panels of Dina Wakely Media Kraft Cardstock with Scor-Tape.

My tissue paper choice is this Finnabair Art Alchemy Musica paper from Prima. The spring greens and lilac shades are a perfect color match for the two Stamperia collections.

Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio: The Process

Here’s how I wrapped the folio with the tissue. It’s a pretty simple process.

First, open a sheet of the Finnabair tissue and lay it face down on your work surface.
Next, cover the face of the folio base with Distress Collage medium. You will need to work quickly as this medium is fast drying.
Now, center the folio base face down over the tissue paper, keeping it as straight as you can. Gently brayer over the paper to seal it to the base.
At this point, I folded the tissue paper over the interior of the folio to see how much I should trim away. I wanted it to completely cover the folio interior without excessive overlap.
Next, cut “v” slits in the 4 corners of the tissue paper to make it easier to wrap and fold it over the folio interior. This is done the same way as you would if you were wrapping a mini album cover with paper.
Now, brush the inside of the folio base with a good layer of Distress collage medium, then fold the tissue paper to the inside of the folio. You will have overlap, and that is fine. Just keep adding Distress Collage Medium until all the edges are sealed.
Finally, use a brayer to gently seal the tissue paper to the folio surface. Carefully fold along the score lines and then walk away and let everything dry.

TIP: Dry time is essential! Damp tissue paper tears.

Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio: Rice Paper Overlay

I cut a medallion from some Stamperia Rice Paper that I had in my stash, and layered that over the folio front. Then I brayered and spattered small amounts of Distress paint to create a more aged appearance. Next I applied two coats of clear Gesso. After this, I applied Distress Oxide Inks through a Stamperia stencil, followed by Distress Opaque Crackle Texture. The crackle medium picks up color from the Oxide Ink and the end result is so pretty.

Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio: The Frame and Flowers

I am loving the new Tim Holtz Lace Baseboard Frames! They alter beautifully!

TIP: Use scraps of rice paper to decorate the frame.

To alter the frame, I brushed it with Oxide Inks, spattered with Distress Paints and misted with Mica Spray. The image is from the Flower Alphabet Collection. I pulled out some Heartfelt Creations Lilac stamps and dies to make the flowers and leaves. Vintage lace and buttons from my stash add the perfect finishing touch.

Tissue Wrapped Springtime Folio: A Peek Inside

I had such a good time adding flips and pockets and tuck spots to this sweet little lap book.

Here’s a look at the folio fully opened.

I stitched up a rice paper lavender sachet then topped it with these sweet charms from The Funkie Junkie Boutique. It smells heavenly!

This altered envelope is the perfect size to hold a teabag.

And what could be sweeter than a little honey stick, chocolate, stitched bookmark and itty bitty silver spoon to go with it?

Graphic 45 Proper Gentleman Card Folio for Frilly & Funkie “How Do I Love Thee?” Challenge

Hello, Friends! Today I have a really neat masculine project to share with you. I created this Graphic 45 A Proper Gentleman Card Folio for the latest challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog. Hosted by the amazing Sara Emily, the challenge theme is “Let Me Count the Ways” Before I share my project with you, let’s see what this challenge is all about:

Challenge Theme: Let Me Count the Ways
Since it’s just a day away from Valentine’s Day, the opening line of Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s famous love poem “Let Me Count the Ways” (Sonnet 43) comes to mind. “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.” For this theme, I would like to see your vintage or shabby chic project that includes three of something. This could be three colors, three words, 3 stamps (you get the idea); just be sure to tell us what those three elements are.

And real quick…let me apologize right off the bat! I have 3 separate postings today. How ironic is that? This almost never happens, but sometimes there’s just no way to avoid it. I’m so sorry for stuffing your inbox today.

Proper Gentleman Card Folio: A Party of Three

Even though I don’t make them very often, I love making masculine cards. I’ve been wanting to dig into the Graphic 45 A Proper Gentleman DCE for quite a while. This fun challenge theme was the perfect excuse. This is a 5″ x 6 3/4″ card folio with a 1/2″ top fold spine. Here’s how I used threes on the card front:

Paper: 3 layers: kraft card base, the plaid pattern and the sepia frame.
Machine stitching around the outer, middle and inside perimeter of the card frame
Three clocks
Gears: Two trios of gears

TIP: Fussy cut the clock border and leave the inside edge open. Tuck the chipboard frame and element behind the open edge. This creates a wonderful feeling of dimension.

Tim Holtz Paper Dolls and Clippings Stickers, Quote Chips, and Small Talk Stickers add so much to the folio design. I just love this dapper gent in his bowler hat!

The side pocket is sized perfectly to hold these 3 Graphic 45 ATC tags.

Turn the flap to find another pocket…with the second little gift tucked inside.

I dug this Graphic 45 Inspire, Create, Imagine Square Tag out of my stash, then used the matching Square Tag Die to cover the back side. This makes the laser cut words pop. Then I created a little 2 3/4″ x 4 1/4″ gift card wallet.

Room for a note…and a gift card/cash pocket.

Clean up the scraps on your table! This bookmark only took about 5 minutes to make thanks to the 12×12 Sticker Elements that come with the Proper Gentleman DCE. Turn a border scrap into a tuck spot by adhering just the side of it to the back side of the flip page. Then tuck the tag in place, and that’s gift #3!

Stamperia Winter Botanic Christmas Box

Hello, Friends! Today marks the beginning of a new challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog. I’ve created this Stamperia Winter Botanic Christmas Box to go along with the Christmas Gifts theme that our hostess, Maggi, has chosen for the challenge. We’ll take a look at it in a minute, but first let’s see what she has to say about the challenge guidelines.

It’s that time of the year where we’re all thinking about the perfect gift for our friends and families! For this challenge, create a vintage or shabby chic gift for a special someone in your life. Your gift could be a simple as a handmade card or tag, or an elaborate piece of home decor. Maybe you like to place your gifts in handmade boxes? Your imagination is the only limit on this challenge!

Stamperia Winter Botanic Christmas Box: The Inspiration

Stamperia Winter Botanic Christmas Box: The Box

I happen to have a love for pretty boxes. So much so that my family saves interesting boxes for me to alter. I have a box full of them in the Closet of Shame. Since so many of us give gift cards for Christmas, I thought it would be fun to create a really beautiful box that could house a gift card. That was my original intent. But when I began digging through the COS, I found a Tim Holtz 6″ x 9″ x 1″ Configurations Box that I’d forgotten all about. All the little boxes inside were missing (what on earth did I do with those???) but the box itself was perfect for my new and improved plan.

Paint the box with Candied Apple Distress Paint. Then add a layer of Distress Crazing Medium. When that has dried, rub on some Black Soot Distress Stain, wiping off with a paper towel after about 10 seconds. Then tap/brush an Embossing Dabber along the edges and sides of the box. Sprinkle on Seth Apter Ancient Amber Baked Texture to add that holiday touch of gold.

I adhered a vintage silver plate spoon to the side of the box in lieu of a handle.

And I added more stenciling/inking to the spine.

Stamperia Winter Botanic Christmas Box: The Paper

Stamperia Winter Botanic is the most gorgeous paper! After distressing/inking the edges, I matted it on some kraft cardstock which I also distressed and inked. Then I stitched around the edges of the paper on my machine. To add some texture and layering to the paper, I added some Opaque Crackle Texture Paste through a Stamperia Stencil. When the paste was dry, I lightly sponged on some Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink, spritzed lightly with water and heat dried.

Stamperia Winter Botanic Christmas Box: Framed

Can you spot something you rarely see in one of my projects? The answer is that I used just ONE layer of designer paper. To draw the eye to the image of that beautiful winter bird, I decided to top it with a Tim Holtz Vignette Topper Frame. Here’s how I altered it:

First, place the frame in a shallow box. I like to use the 12″ x 12″ shipping boxes that paper gets shipped in. Placing the frame in a box is not a requirement, but it sure does make cleanup easy!
Next, spray the frame thoroughly with Ground Espresso Distress Stain Spray.
Then, while the stain is still wet, spray randomly with Tim Holtz Tarnished Brass Mica Spray.
After the frame is dry (I used my heat gun) scrape some Opaque Crackle Texture Paste randomly around the frame.
Then apply Art Institute Dries Clear Adhesive on a piece of sponge. Squeeze the sponge gently to evenly distribute the adhesive. Then tap the sponge randomly all over the surface of the frame.
Next, place the frame over a funnel tray or a large piece of paper and sprinkle liberally with Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter. This gives the frame a frosty appearance and adds subtle sparkle to the “snow”.

Stamperia Winter Botanic Christmas Box: The Finishing Touches

Wrap the left hand side of the paper panel with burlap string. Tie a knot and add some rusty jingle bells in the upper left corner. Arrange Little Birdie Flowers (Buttermilk Rosalind Roses and Danica Cherry) along the left hand side of the box. Tear out the “Happy Holidays” sentiment from the paper collection, distress, back with dimensionals and add above the frame.

Alter a Graphic 45 Ornate Door Plate and Knob by painting with black gesso. While the paint is damp, spritz it liberally with the Tim Holtz Mica Spray again. Then heat dry.
Add mustard seeds and green peppercorns in the corners of the frame.

Stamperia Winter Botanic Christmas Box: A Peek Inside

The interior of the box holds a little Christmas card and photo folio.

This 5″ x 7″ card has a base layer of Stamperia Rice Paper. Apply this with Distress Vintage Collage Medium for a beautiful vintage finish. Stitch on some scraps of designer paper and the beautiful deer image. Then add more stenciling and inking for texture.

Dry brush Picket Fence Distress Paint on a wood slice (my son cut these for me in his shop but you can use the Tim Holtz brand). Add some Opaque Crackle Texture Paste randomly around the edges, sprinkle with Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter and set aside to dry. Color a Tim Holtz Deer with Alcohol Inks. I wanted to add a white bottle brush tree to the wood slice, but it prevented the box from closing. So I colored this pretty silvertone Christmas tree charm with Pesto Alcohol Ink instead. All these elements were joined by some Spanish Moss and some rusty jingle bells.

Here’s a peek at the inside. That’s a handmade crocheted/starched snowflake ornament in the pocket.

Stamperia Winter Botanic Christmas Box: The Folio

I added more rice paper images to the cover of this 4 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ magnetic folio.

There are 6 panels in all, each decorated with papers from the Winter Botanic and Alchemy Collections. I even managed to fit in another pocket.

Glorious Graphic 45 Garden Goddess Project Share and Mini Tutorial

Hello, Friends! Happy Saturday! I’m here to introduce you to the Glorious Graphic 45 Garden Goddess Collection. What a treat it was to work with these gorgeous patterns, images and sentiments! I got so carried away with my creative time that I ended up making a card folio and two styles of mixed media tags…and a little secret surprise that I’ll share later on this month. These projects are being featured as the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog Saturday Showcase today.

Glorious Graphic 45 Garden Goddess: Shine Card Folio

I began my crafty adventure by designing and creating this 7″ x 5″ waterfall card folio. Festooned with blossoming roses, custom dyed seam binding ribbon, textiles, distressed/painted edges and metal charms, it is loaded with shabby chic charm.

The interior is a simple folio with a waterfall feature on the left and a pocket/insert on the right. The waterfall is held shut with a little magnetic belly band closure.

Beneath the waterfall, I’ve created a little flap/pocket page with a lovely photo insert. You all know how much I like to maximize the use of space in anything I create.

The pocket/folio page also uses a magnetic closure. I reached way back into my high school days, and created a decorative tassel for the chipboard element on the flap.

The folio features a journaling page with an insert. I’ve used the back side of a 4″ x 6″ ephemera card here. You’ll be able to see all the details in the video tour below.

Glorious Graphic 45 Garden Goddess: Mixed Media Tags

I had quite a tidy pile of scraps on my work table after making the folio, so I decided to make a couple of mixed media art tags.

The first tag measures 4″ x 9″ and uses a G45 Large Kraft Tag as its base. First I embossed the tag with Tim’s 3-D Botanical Texture Fade. Then I took it to the mixed media day spa for a beauty treatment with gesso, crazing medium, Distress Oxide Inks, Distress Stain and Seth Apter Ancient Amber Baked Texture. We’ll take a closer look in the video, and I’ll also share process photos for creating the mixed media background.

For the 2nd tag, I scored the shaped edge to form a pocket. To decorate the top edge, I die cut one of Tim’s Pediments (Sizzix Bigz Die) and covered it with paper scraps. I love the way this tag turned out!

In this short, 10 minute video, we’ll take a walk through of the card folio where I’ll share some tips and creative ideas. Then I’ll show you the details of the mixed media tags and talk about creating them.
