This 6×6 shaker folio cover features novelty buttons from Buttons Galore & More and an altered Beautiful Board frame from Reneabouquets. I’ll be sure to link all the products in the supply list below this post.

Top the Baker’s Twine Trim with some spook-tacular Halloween charms for the perfect finishing touch.

Don’t you just love this Halloween stripe pattern on the back cover?  This finishes our tour of the outside of this little folio.   Do you dare take a peek inside?  Follow me!

A Peek Inside

Each folio in this year-long series follows the same basic layout and design.  If you’re new to the series, you can get caught up on the previous 9 folios HERE.

I did change up the design a little bit this month, because the images on the Cards page are laid out differently.  So you’ll learn how to make some new mini-folio inserts this go round.

The center pocket is as stuffed as a Trick or Treat bag at the end of the night!

Only these treats won’t cause any cavities!

Only two folios left to go, my friends, then we’ll have the complete series all wrapped up.  I’ve really enjoyed sharing these with you, and I hope you’ve enjoyed them, too.

Remember: even if you are not a “gnome person” you can use the basic folio tutorial with any paper or theme you like.  It’s such a versatile and easy folio to make that I know I’ll keep on using it as time goes on.

Photoplay Year With My Gnomies September Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  The gnomes are headed back to school for this September Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial.  September?  Yes…September!  How can that even be possible?  Time for moms and dads to break out the back packs, new sneakers, pencils and pads.  Summer really, truly is winding down once the kids start back to school!

These gnomes seem to be ready for some reading, writing and arithmetic lessons.  I had loads of fun putting this 6×6 shaker folio together for you today.

A ribbon closure of blue gingham seemed to be a prudent plan for this slightly chunky folio.  I’ll share all the details and how-tos in the video tutorial below.

A Peek Inside

How do you feel about these bright, primary colors?  It’s just like opening that new box of Crayolas on the first day of school!

If you’ve been following along with this year-long series, then you know how quick and easy it is to make this monthly folio.  But, if you’re new, or you need to get caught up on past months, you can find them all HERE.

There’s lots of room for photos, special dates and journaling in all the little pockets and tuck spots.

Remember the first day of school?  I walked with my best friend Robin up the long, long hill to our neighborhood 2 room schoolhouse.  Filled with anticipation and ready to conquer the world, I was a bit disappointed when the first day centered around getting our desks properly adjusted to the length of our legs and coloring a big red apple.  Already reading, I went home and told my mother that I would not be going back the next day as I already knew how to color.

But I did…because you just didn’t argue with Mom.

August Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial with Photoplay Year with My Gnomies

Hello, Friends!  It’s hard to believe, I know, but it’s time to share our August Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial.  This year long series has been a ray of sunshine every month of 2022, hasn’t it?  Break out your flip flops, sunglasses and tanning lotion because we are having fun in the sun in August!

The Shaker Box

Photoplay Paper Year with My Gnomies August Folio Tutorial Reneabouquets by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

This sun-drenched folio is filled with citrusy hues and summer fun.  How about the sea turtle “rainbow” at the top of this super fun shaker frame?  And what about all those juicy citrus fruits in the shaker?  See?  I told you this month’s folio was all about fun!  Here’s how I altered the Reneabouquets Beautiful Box Ornament Frame for this cover;

  • First, tap the frame with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink.
  • Now,  mist the frame lightly with water.  This will activate the Oxide Ink,
  • Next, tap the frame with clear embossing powder and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.
  • Now,  spatter Ripe Persimmon, Mustard Seed and Picket Fence Distress Paint over the surface of the frame.   Let the paint spatters dry.
  • Now,  back the frame with clear acetate and 3 rows of foam tape.
  • Next, die cut the circle of flip flops from the paper collection to serve as the back of the frame. Cut a slightly larger circle to make sure that the foam edges are completely covered.
  • Now, fill the shaker box with Fruit Cocktail Sprinkletz and Christmas Carnival Sparkletz. (First, remove the Christmas trees)
  • Finally, seal the back of the shaker box with the prepared die cut circle.
A Peek Inside and Video Tutorial

The 6×6 flip folio follows the same basic format as the previous 7 folios in this series.

July Gnome of the Month: How to Make a Star Shaker Embellishment

July Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial by Kathy Clement Photoplay Year with My Gnomies

What could be more perfect than a star shaped shaker element on a 4th of July folio?  If you have a basic set of nested star dies, you can make your own by following these simple steps.

  • First, die cut the largest star from a piece of heavy weight cardstock.  (I used Navy to go with the color palette of my project.)
  • Next, select the patterned paper you wish to use as the frame of your star.
  • Now place a small piece of easy release tape (like painter’s tape) on the edge of the largest star die to secure it in place on the patterned paper.
  • Then center the next smallest star die inside the large one and secure with tape.
  • Run the die through your die cutting machine using the sandwich that your machine recommends.
  • Now you will have a large frame and a smaller star.  Adhere the small star in the center of the Navy cardstock star.  This is the backer for your shaker element.
  • Next, die cut clear cardstock (acetate) with the largest star die and adhere to the back of the frame. This is the frame or the front of your shaker element.
  • Then place 3 rows of 1/8″ foam strips on the back of the star frame.
  • Now fill the center of the shaker back with your shaker elements.
  • Finally, press the frame over the shaker back.

Here is a side view of the shaker frame.  I colored the sides of my foam tape with a red sharpie pen so that it would blend in better.

A Peek Inside

The inside of this adorable folio follows the same simple layout as the preceding months. Keeping the design the same each month saves time, which is always a good thing!

A cute tag pocket is hidden behind the front flap.  The large center pocket gives you plenty of room to add journaling cards, tags and photos.

I really like the images this month…especially the watermelon and ice cream treats!  That’s a a great way to cool off during the summer heat wave so many of us are experiencing.

June Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial

June Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  I’m back from a week at the beach, and ready to share this adorable June Gnome of the Month Shaker Folio with you.  I had a chance to run away for a little beach therapy last week, and it was glorious!  Our eldest daughter rented a house just one row back from the beach.  We were joined by our eldest son’s family (yes…the Littles were there…so I was a happy Nan!).

The weather could not have been more perfect: sunny skies, breezy, warm but not hot, glorious sunrises and sunsets…and we even saw a few dolphins.  Turns out being a beach bum for a week is good for the soul.  But now I’m back in the studio and ready to get my craft on.

Gnome Salute to Dad

Photoplay-Year With My Gnomies-June Shaker Folio-Kathy Clement-Photo 02

I really appreciate that Photoplay chose to honor Dads in their June papers.  Putting this 6×6 masculine gnome card folio together was a blast!  From Mr. Fix It on the cover, to the Cool Dad gnome mobile, these papers are cute, cute, cute!

Make Your Own Shaker Frame!

This month, we’re going to make our own shaker frame.  Don’t panic!  It’s not at all hard to do!

  • First, select a square die from your stash,  I used the Spellbinders Scalloped Circle Nestabilities #2 die for my frame.  You can use whatever square die you have in your stash.
  • Next, line the die up on a piece of heavy cardstock so that you have about a 3/8″ border on all sides.  Once the die is straight and even, use a little tape to hold it in place.
  • Now, run through your die cutting machine.  Remove the die cut from the center of the paper and save it for later use.
  • Then trim the sides of the piece that is left so that they are all even.  This is your frame.
  • Next, back it with a piece of clear cardstock (acetate sheet) and 3 layers of 1/8″ foam tape.
  • Finally, fill the shaker frame with itty bitty metal tool embellishments, small gears, sequins and stars.  Voila!  Super cute, super masculine shaker frame!
A Peek Inside

Here’s a look at the inside of this adorable folio.  It looks pretty much the same as the January-May folios….but upon closer examination, you will see that I did change the design up a bit.

I figured out how to turn the calendar page into a hidden flap page.  This makes more room for photos.  And now you can see how I used the die cut scalloped square, too!

Of course we have lots of pockets, tags and mini folios tucked inside.

This folio would be a great Father’s Day gift, filled with photos and messages for Dad.  If you’d like to learn how to make it, please enjoy the video tutorial below.

I’ll be back tomorrow with a super cute beach themed card project.  Thursday we’ll make our Graphic 45 Time to Flourish Folio, and Friday is the Heartfelt Creations Alumni Blog Hop!  On Saturday, our dear friends from Atlanta are coming to spend a few days.  I guess it’s a good thing I took a vacation last week!

You’ll find a linked supply list below this post.  If you need to get caught up on the January-May Folios, you can find them HERE.
