May Gnome of the Month Shaker Card Folio Tutorial Tuesday Video

Hello, Friends!  Wow, can you believe it’s time for our May Gnome of the Month Shaker Card Tutorial?  Wasn’t it just St. Patrick’s Day 5 minutes ago?  Now Easter is behind us and we are getting into summertime territory!  Whoa!

I hope you all had a blessed and happy Easter Weekend.  Ours was jam packed with friends, food, and family…the best kind of celebration!  We had 15 family members here on Sunday, and the weather was glorious, so we were able to eat lunch on the deck and hang together on the screen porch until almost dark.  In fact, I had to whip up a quick batch of buttermilk biscuits to go with leftover ham and pimiento cheese for supper.  No one complained!

If you’re keeping up with this series, this is folio number 5.  But if you’re new to the blog, you can find the previous tutorials HERE.

Once again, we follow the basic format for making the folio base.  The shaker element is a Reneabouquets Deco Heart Circle Frame filled with Mermaid Sparklets from Buttons Galore and More.  (Linked below)

Dress the frame up with Stampendous Shabby Pink Embossing Powder and some colorful buttons from your stash.

A Peek Inside

You’ll find all the customary pockets, flaps and tuck-ins waiting for you inside.

It’s a very colorful folio this month!

If you’d like to follow along as I create the May Gnome of the Month folio, please enjoy this YouTube video tutorial.

OK, friends…that’s all for me today.  I need to go switch loads of laundry and put the tablecloths away until the next fun gathering.  I hope you all have a joyful and creative day!

Thanks for stopping by!

Hello, Friends!  It’s time to share our April Gnome of the Month Shaker Folio Tutorial for Make & Take Tuesday.   If you’ve been following along, then you know this is the 4th installment in our “Gnome of the Month series.  Get ready for bright spring colors, Gnomes with Bunny Ears, pretty florals and fun antics from our favorite Gnomies.

Shaking Up the Basic Design

April Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial by Kathy Clement Photo 01

The basic design for the folio is the same, but we change up the embellishments and trims to keep things fresh and fun.  Here’s how to make the shaker frame:

  • First, paint a Tim Holtz Lace Frame with off white chalk paint.
  • Next, spatter the frame with Distress Paints that match the color palette.  (Dried Marigold, Broken China, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron and Picked Raspberry.)
  • Wait for the paint to dry, then cover the back side of the frame with clear cardstock (acetate sheets.)
  • Then place 3 rows of 1/4″ foam tape around the back side of the frame.
  • Now cut the sentiment from the bottom of the bunny tag and back it with foam tape.
  • Next, adhere the bunny gnome tag to the folio base.  Top with sequins, beads and Reneabouquets candy bits (all listed below) then press the frame in place.

You can watch the video below to see the process.

These folios are great to make for birthdays, too!  Or substitute your favorite papers to use with the folio base to customize your design.

The flap feature offers a perfect spot for a pocket.

Then you can make cute mini folios to tuck inside.

Use the calendar page to write in birthdays, holidays and special events.  Or, simply mount a photo over the calendar if desired.  The center pocket affords more room for photos and journaling.

Make & Take Tuesday: March Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  It’s time to share this March Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial for this week’s Make & Take Tuesday episode.  This is the second tutorial in this year-long series.  You can find the January and February Gnome of the Month tutorials HERE.

How cute is this Gnome Leprechaun?  (Lepregnome?  Gnomechaun?  Hmmmm…)  Bold shades of green, orange and white make this folio stand out from the crowd.

Somewhere along the line, I nabbed this green jeweled ladybug charm.  I could not resist adding it to the charm cluster along with the flower and shamrock charms.

Paint a Tim Holtz wooden frame with ivory chalk paint.  Then back it with clear cardstock, foam strips and fill it with magically delicious shaker elements to make a festive shaker frame for the cover.  I think the top hat and shamrock button add a lovely bit of flair to the design.

A Peek Inside

The format and design of the March folio follows the pattern for January and February.  This makes it very quick and easy to put together with the March papers and stickers.

And seriously…I dare you not to smile at these winsome gnomes!

Pockets, pockets and more pockets create lots of room for mini folios and tags.

You’ll learn how to create all these fun elements in the video tutorial below.

So that’s it for this episode of Make & Take Tuesday!  I hope you are enjoying this series.  If you’re making the folios along with me, please let me know in the comments below.  I’d love to hear how it’s going.

And, stay tuned for more gnomes!  All this week I’m working on the 2nd quarter installment of A Year with My Gnomies Boxed Folio series for The Button Farm Club!

January and February Gnome of the Month Card Tutorials

January & February Gnome of the Month Card Tutorials

Hello, Friends!  Today I’m launching the first installment of my Gnome of the Month Card Tutorials.  Each month in 2022, we are going to make a cute card with Photoplay’s Year With My Gnomies paper collection.  I’ve decided that 2022 is a good year for fun and smile.  These gnomes definitely make me chuckle.   What  better way to send someone a smile in the mail each month? Sometimes these ideas just pop into my head, and so far I’ve not regretted bringing them to life.

Launching Make & Take Tuesdays on YouTube

Now gnomes may not be your cup of tea.  Not to worry! I’ve decided to launch a new YouTube tutorial series called Make and Take Tuesday.  This  series will be in addition to my Throwback Thursday posts.  We’ll be working with newer collections in these tutorials, and the focus will be on creating cards.  The gnomes will make a monthly appearance, but the series will cover everything from making stacks of cards in a hurry, fun fold card bases, easy to mail cards and fully loaded cards.

My goal is to share these posts with you every Tuesday as my schedule permits.  Sound like fun?

January Gnome of the Month

Since January is nearly half over, I am sharing both the January and February cards this month.  Since the idea didn’t pop into my head until after I had created the January card, there is no step by step tutorial for it.  But, the base for each of these cards is the same.  Only the patterns and the embellishments vary.  So you can easily create this wintry card, even without the step by step tutorial.

The shaker box on the front of this card features a brand new, soon to be released die from Becca Feeken.  The Filigree Marquis die is part of her new “Classically Becca” release in January. Here’s how to make the shaker frame:

  • First, die cut the frame from 100# white cardstock.
  • Next, heat emboss the frame with VersaMark and Ranger Bridal Tinsel Embossing Powder.
  • Let the embossing cool, then back the frame with a piece of clear cardstock. (Acetate)
  • Now, place 3 rows of 1/8″ foam strips around the sides of the frame.
  • Then fill the inside of the frame with a shaker mix.
  • Next, cut a panel of the polka dot paper large enough to back the frame.  Decorate it with the sledding gnome from the sticker sheet.  Then press in place on the back of the frame.
  • Finish with the fussy cut Snow Day Gnome, ribbon , flowers and charms.

A Peek Inside

The tutorial for the February card will show you how to create the base, add the pockets, and make the mini folios.

What a fun way to send birthday greetings to January birthday boys and girls!  You have plenty of room in the pocket to tuck in a gift card, tea bag, or other small treat.

February Gnome of the Month

The shaker element on the February Gnome of the Month is a Reneabouquets Beautiful Board Frame.  I’ll show you how to assemble it in the video tutorial below.

You can see how the design of each card is the same.  We just change out the patterned papers and embellishments.

I dare you not to smile at these adorable critters!

Since each month’s papers in the collection is laid out almost the same, it’s very easy to repeat the designs.

So, if  you are ready to get started on making your own Gnome of the Month Card, join me for the tutorial below.
