Craft Hoarders Anonymous December Hop: Very Vintage Christmas Banner

Hello, Friends!  It’s time for the Craft Hoarders Anonymous December Hop.  You should be coming here from  Teresa Horner’s beautiful blog, where I know you were dazzled by her incredible creativity.  She’s a tough act to follow!  Since this hop is all about having fun, using our stash and making things that make us happy, I decided to use some of my favorite goodies from Polly’s Paper Studio.  My fingers had been itching to play with her very merry Let it Snow Creativity Kit.  I also felt like making a Christmas banner.  So I whipped up this Very Vintage Christmas Banner to share with you here today.

kathy by Design/Vintage Style Christmas Banner 01While I love making banners, I don’t love photographing them, but I did my best to capture all the holiday cheer in this very vintage Christmas banner.  It’s loaded with Petaloo flowers and gorgeous ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon, too.

kathy by Design/Vintage Style Christmas Banner 04Each panel is sewn onto a burlap flag.  I used Tim’s snowflake rosettes and loads of flowers to amp up the festive feel.

Vintage Style Christmas Banner 03I love these rusted stars that are frosted with glitter.  (I think I am still wearing a little glitter, but it’s the holidays, so it’s alright!)  Each flag is sewn onto a length of mesh ribbon to go along with the rustic feel of this very vintage Christmas banner.  Then I accented with Green Glitz Ribbon and Red Swiss Dots Satin Ribbon.  I have to confess, I am totally in love with this ribbon combo!

Vintage Style Christmas Banner 02These sweet vintage images just make me happy.  They capture a time of innocence and joy that the world could really use right about now.

Vintage Style Christmas Banner 05From here, you will hop over and be dazzled by the one and only Barbara Rankin.  If you get lost along the way, visit Gloria Stengel’s blog (she’s our lovely hostess) where you’ll find a complete list of all the hoarders playing along in this hop.

I’m linking this up to the “Tis the Season” Challenge over at Frilly and Funkie.

Here’s wishing you an old fashioned Merry Christmas!  Thanks for hopping by!

This month, I have a super sweet baby project to share with you.  I used a 7 Gypsies Solo Tray and Graphic 45 papers (Sweet Sentiments/Little Darlings) and some die cuts to create this little altered baby tray for a friend.

Kathy by Design/Little Darlings Altered Baby Tray 02The solo tray measures 6″ square with a 4″ x 6″ opening and 3 2″ square openings.  I dug deep into the Closet of Shame and came up with some fun embellies like the sweet Baby Animal Print Ribbon, White Iridescent Metallic String, Cosmos Daisies and Magnolia Blossoms.  Oh, and I added a few White Spiral Stamens into my flower/ribbon cluster.  I also inked the edges of the flower petals with Chalk ink, and dry brushed some Tattered Rose Distress Paint onto the sides of the tray.

Little Darlings Altered Baby Tray 01This baby’s nursery is done in pink and lilac, so that dictated the color palette. To be true to the Hoarders Pledge (“Keep everything you have, but use everything you keep,”and yes…I just totally made that up!) I pulled out an ancient Spellbinder’s Lace Border Die to use along the top of the tray.

Little Darlings Altered Baby Tray 03I layered the lilac papers from Sweet Sentiments, adding foam tape between layers to add more direction. A large photo of the new family can be mounted here.  .  The sides of the tray were covered in paper and then wrapped with crocheted lace, but I didn’t get a good photo of that, which was very silly of me!

Little Darlings Altered Baby Tray 04The little dress, bloomers, teddy bear and shoes are die cut with dies that I dug out of my crafty stash.  I inked the edges lightly with Tea Dye Distress Ink…and I have to admit…I super love the way these die cuts turned out.

Baby things are so much fun to make and give!  And speaking of giving, I have a little bit of blog candy to give away this month. Blog candyI have a huge stash of 6″ x 6″ papers that I almost never use.  So I thought I would share.  These are assorted collections from Webster’s Pages and they need a new home.  I’ll toss in some other goodies, too…as much as I can fit into the package.
