Spellbinders Holly Flourish Embossing Folder Slimline Christmas Card

Hello, Friends!  Elegant card backgrounds are quick and easy thanks to the Spellbinders Amazing Paper Grace Holly Flourish Embossing Folder.  It’s been a while since I’ve played with the dry embossing technique, and I had forgotten how magical it really is!  It’s truly as simple as 1, 2, 3.

  • First, cut a piece of paper to fit inside the 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ embossing folder.
  • Next, mist the paper lightly with water.  This helps to keep the paper from cracking as it runs through the embossing machine.
  • Now build the embossing folder sandwich for  your personal die cutting machine.
  • Then run the plates through the machine and clap your hands with delight as the embossed design appears on your paper.

There’s simply not a paper crafting technique that achieves such dramatic effects with such a small amount of effort.

Put Your Scraps to Work!

I had a few pretty scraps left from my adventures with the Winter Wonderland, but not really enough to make a slimline card. And that’s another nice thing about embossing folders: you can make a really terrific paper layer with just plain white cardstock.  Then you add a pop of color with a bit of patterned paper, as I did here.

TIP: Yes, you can use 6″ wide paper on a 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ slimline card!  Cut your scraps to a height of 2″, then overlap them as a belly band.  Then, cover the joint where the papers overlapped with focal image.  Easy, peasy!

Celebrate the Seasons Sled

I am such a fan of this Celebrate the Seasons Winter Sled die!  Not only does it create the cutest little sled, it also has greenery and floral dies.  This time, instead of using the ice skate dies, I dressed up the sled with a little jingle bell cluster.   Then I finished out the card with the puffy sticker sentiments from Winter Wonderland.

A Peek Inside

Use the off cut of the Holly Flourish embossed paper to line the pocket inside your card.  Once again, I had to paper piece patterns to cover the inside of the card.  Then I used die cut shapes from the kit to cover up the joints.

I had just enough paper left over to create a little gift card wallet to tuck inside the pocket.
