Garden Themed Mother Goose Shaker Top Folio

Garden Themed Mother Goose Shaker Top Folio for Really Reasonable Ribbon

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  How does your garden grow? Summer is in full bloom here in North Carolina.  My darling husband decided he wanted to do a little gardening this summer, so we’ve been anxiously waiting to pick our very own home grown heirloom tomatoes.  This gardening project inspired me to create a super cute Garden Themed Mother Goose Shaker Top Folio using Graphic 45’s Mother Goose and Home Sweet Home Collections.

This is a 7″ x 5″ side fold folio.  Don’y you just love the way this Capri Blue Taffeta Ribbon pops against the primary colors of the Mother Goose Collection?   Taffeta ribbon ties the most beautiful bows!  And I love the touch of Natural Burlap String in the bow cluster, too.

On the inside of this folio, I’ve used papers from both Mother Goose and Home Sweet Home.  You wouldn’t think that they’d work so well together, but I think they look great.

Laundry Day Card with Graphic 45 Home Sweet Home

Laundry Day Card for Really Reasonable Ribbon with Graphic 45 Home Sweet Home

Hello, Ribbon lovers!  In my world, nothing smells so sweet as freshly washed sheets that have hung on the line.  The beautiful spring weather and  memories of my mom prompted me to make this Laundry Day card with Really Reasonable Ribbon and Graphic 45’s Home Sweet Home collection.  It brings back so many happy childhood memories!

Laundry Day Card Home Sweet Home by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon Product by Graphic 45 Photo 1If you never had the joy of hanging freshly washed laundry on the line on a gorgeous spring day, then you have missed out on one of life’s greatest pleasures.  With the blue sky over your head and a playful breeze blowing while cheeky little birds sing their hearts out it’s truly a feast for the soul!  I tried to capture the joy of the experience in this 5″ x 7″ top fold laundry day card.

It’s All About the Layers on this Laundry Day Card

Laundry Day Card Home Sweet Home by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon Product by Graphic 45 Photo 2This card is all about the layers!  I layered up several prints and patterns, as is my usual course of action.  But I also layered up the focal image.

Laundry Day Card Home Sweet Home by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon Product by Graphic 45 Photo 3

To do this, first create a layer with the entire image.  Next, fussy cut a second image, ink the edges and back it with small foam tabs.  Then carefully line the fussy cut image up with the original and press in place.  I love the way this causes the image to pop off the page.

Laundry Day Card Home Sweet Home by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon Product by Graphic 45 Photo 4You can create layers with ribbon, too!  For this card, I created a double layer bow with the Electric Blue Taffeta ribbon from the May Ribbon Club Assortment.  I topped it with a bright and cheery Yellow Plaid double loop bow.  Then I added some pretty red and blue blooms to go with the fussy cut hollyhocks from the paper collection.

Pockets and Tags and Sweet Treats Inside this Laundry Day Card

Laundry Day Card Home Sweet Home by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon Product by Graphic 45 Photo 6I love to create cards that can double as gifts, so I generally add pockets and tags and treats to the inside.  The miniature green clothespin holds a tiny folio shut.

Laundry Day Card Home Sweet Home by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon Product by Graphic 45 Photo 7To create this, I simply cut the strip of images from the border page in Home Sweet Home.  Then I scored between each image.  Next I accordion folded the strip so that the tomato image is on top.  It would be fun to write either a personal note or a recipe on the ephemera card.

Sadly, we are not allowed to hang clothes out on the line in my new neighborhood.  But I still have the sweet memories from hanging clothes on the line with my mom.  Do you use a clothesline?  I’d love to hear your Laundry Day story in the comment section below.

Blueberry Delight Mini Album Tutorial

Blueberry Delight Mini Album Tutorial with Graphic 45 Home Sweet Home

Hello, Friends!  Summer is the time when we all travel.  Sometimes we travel around the world, and sometimes we just take a little trip around the block.  This summer, the grand girls paid a visit to a local “you pick” blueberry farm.  It was a beautiful day, the blueberries were ripe for and luscious and fun was in the air. We picked them one day, baked them into a delicious dessert on another and ate every juicy morsel on a third.  It was blueberry delight from beginning to end.  I thought I’d share the fun with you in this Blueberry Delight Mini Album Tutorial.

Come Blueberry Picking with Me

Blueberry Delight Recipe

The girls and I got together to bake our blueberries up into a tasty dessert on Saturday morning.  I thought you might like to make it for your family as well, so here’s the recipe:

Crust:

1 stick butter

2 cups vanilla wafer crumbs

Melt butter and stir in the crumbled vanilla wafers.  Press the crumbs into a 9” square pan.  Set aside.

Filling:

Whipped cream:

2 cups of heavy cream, whipped

3 Tbsp. powdered sugar

2 tsp vanilla extract

Cream cheese:

1 tsp vanilla

3/4 cup sugar

1 8 oz cream cheese, softened

Directions:

Beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla together until smooth and fluffy.

In a separate bowl, beat the whipping cream, vanilla and powdered sugar until it is thick and holds a peak.  Carefully fold half the whipping cream into the prepared cream cheese mixture and spread over the prepared crust.  Refrigerate the remaining whipped cream in an airtight container.  (You can also use an 8 oz. Cool Whip, but we prefer real whipped cream.)

Berries:

¾ cup sugar

3 Tbsp cornstarch

4 cups blueberries

juice of 1 lemon

Combine ingredients and cook until thickened. Cool completely. Top the cream filling with the cooled blueberries and refrigerate.

Happy Mother’s Day

Home Sweet Home: Wishing you a very Happy Mother’s Day from Petaloo and me!

Hello, Friends! It’s Kathy here wishing all the moms out there a very Happy Mother’s Day!  I’ve been thinking about my mom a lot this past week.  She was an amazing woman, raising 5 children on a shoestring budget.  She always had a song in her heart, and worked from before dawn until after dusk: baking homemade bread, canning fresh fruit and produce from our garden, sewing and mending, cleaning and doing laundry.  I don’t think I ever saw her sit down.  It was her love, humor and magic touch that made our house a home.  I learned so much from her, and we shared so many good times together that I cannot be sad on Mother’s Day, even though she is no longer with us.  Instead, I celebrate her incredible legacy.  It was with her in mind that I created this altered frame using Graphic 45’s Home Sweet Home paper collection.

Home Sweet Home Mother's Day Frame Petaloo 02

This all started with a 99 cent frame that I picked up at our local thrift shop.  (Mom would approve…she loved a bargain.)  It was in good shape, but made with really ugly wood.  I sanded, painted, stained and distressed it until I was finally satisfied with this rustic version.  Then the real fun began: adding images and glorious Petaloo flowers!

Home Sweet Home Mother's Day Frame Petaloo 01

The frame measures just under 8″ square and has nice deep openings that made it ideal for a 3-D project like this one.  I used scrap paper to create templates so my images would be sure to fit and line up inside the individual frames.  I hate to waste designer paper!  I chose Petaloo flowers in red, gold, blue and white to match the wonderful vintage hues in my papers.  The lace trim is from the White Fancy Trims Pack, and I love the gorgeous texture and vintage feel it adds to the frame.

Home Sweet Home Mother's Day Frame Petaloo 03

This sweet couple looks pretty happy working away in the kitchen.  Hubby is making coffee, and Mother is making jam.  I fussy cut the hollyhocks from the paper collection and glued them down with Studio Matte Multi Medium.  Then I layered on Red Velvet Lilacs, Royal Blue Sugared Blooms, Sugared Berry Clusters, Royal Blue Sugared Minis, Ivory Burlap Blossoms and Yellow Mini Mixed Blooms.  My mom loved hollyhocks, and her flower garden was the prettiest one in the neighborhood.  I don’t know how she found the time to coax such beautiful blossoms from our clay soil, but she did.  So this bouquet is for you, Mom!

Home Sweet Home Mother's Day Frame Petaloo 04

To balance the design, I added a smaller cluster of the same flowers in the upper left hand corner of the frame.  Oh, how I love these pretty posies!  And, it looks like Mom baked a pie today…there it is cooling on the windowsill.

Home Sweet Home Mother's Day Frame Petaloo 05

I found this vintage spoon in a flea market and knew I had to have it!  I’ve been saving it for just the right project.  I love the touch of elegance it adds to my Home Sweet Home sign.

Home Sweet Home Mother's Day Frame Petaloo 06

Do you see the cute little nest with eggs in it?  I wrapped burlap string around my finger and then hot glued it in place.  I speckled the eggs with Copper and Blue mists from my stash.  Such a fun little way to draw attention to those cute chicks.

I’ll close this post with one of my favorite quotes from Pearl S. Buck:

“Some are kissing mothers,

and some are scolding mothers,

but it is love all the same,

and most mothers

kiss and scold together.”

So whether you are a kissing mother, or a scolding mother, this mother (who was of the kissing and scolding together variety) wishes you a very Happy and Love Filled Mother’s Day!

kathy
