Honeybee Shaker Card with Custom Dyed Ribbon

Honeybee Shaker Card with Custom Dyed Ribbon

Hello, Friends!  Bees are buzzing and flowers are blooming, so I’m popping in to share this Honeybee Shaker Card with Custom Dyed Ribbon.  It’s adorned with Ribbon, Metallic String and Pastel Sweetheart Blossoms from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

You might recognize this Elizabeth Craft Designs Honeybee from an earlier post.  This time I dressed her up in shades of aqua and coral.  She’s headed for the spring flowers inside that shaker frame for sure!

Create the shaker frame with an Everythings Blooming Large Doily.  Die cut a circle from acetate and adhere to the back.  Then add 3 layers of foam tape and press over your selection of sequins, buttons and beads.

Die cut the honeycomb from patterned paper.   Keep the punch out pieces, flip to the reverse side and glue inside the cells. You can also scatter some sequins in for a touch of sparkle.

Custom Dyed Seam Binding Ribbon to the Rescue!

What do you do when you don’t have perfect shade of ribbon in your stash?  I turn to my white seam binding ribbon!  Then I pull out my Distress Inks and add just the colors I want.  Here’s how.

  • First, cut about 1 yard of white seam binding ribbon.
  • Next, select 3 complementary shades of Distress Ink. For this card, I chose Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Fossilized Amber.
  • Swipe the Distress Ink Pads on a non-stick craft sheet, then mist with water until small color droplets form.
  • Dip the seam binding ribbon through the inky puddles.  Don’t swipe, or the colors will get muddy.
  • Dry the ribbon with a heat gun between applications, and repeat until you are happy with the final result.
  • If your ribbon is wrinkled, you can iron with a warm iron.  But I like the crinkles!
  • Now tie your pretty bow and top with Iridescent Metallic String.
A Peek Inside

Add a cute side pocket inside your card, then fill with a mini note card and packet of wildflower seeds.

Create a cute little tag with Honeybee and Bloom stamps from the Everything’s Blooming release.  Tie waxed linen thread around the top and add a bee charm to complete the theme.

I hope I’ve shared some tips and ideas that you can use in your next crafty adventure.  You’ll find a linked supply list below this post.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheerio,
