Alice Meets the Queen of Hearts Shaker Card with Reneabouquets

Hello, Friends!  Meet me in the rose garden and we’ll have a chat about this Alice Meets the Queen of Hearts Shaker Card.  This whimsical creation is made with the very last bits of my Lemoncraft Delicious papers and some Reneabouquets Printed Beautiful Board.  Oh, the fun I have had with this paper collection!  You can see other creations made with these lovely papers HERE and HERE.

Reneabouquets Alice Printed Beautiful Board by Kathy Clement Photo 01

Today I’ve paired the papers up with some of my Reneabouquets goodies.  I found a lovely selection of Alice themed Printed Beautiful Board in the shop and thought it worked well with the tea themed papers.  Remember when Alice and the Queen of Hearts played croquet together in the rose garden?  And the croquet balls were hedgehogs!  That is one of my favorite chapters from the book!

The Shaker Element

This Butterfly Flourish Frame makes the perfect backdrop for Alice and the Queen of Hearts.  Here’s how to make it:

  • First, heat emboss a Medium Butterfly Flourish Frame with Vintage Champagne Wow embossing powder.
  • Next, trace the inside of the frame onto clear cardstock.  Use a stylus to do this so you don’t leave marks on the acetate.  Then when you cut it out, cut the outside edge.
  • Now adhere the acetate to the back of the frame with Dries Clear Adhesive.
  • Then back the frame with 3 rows of 1/8″ foam adhesive.
  • Place your sequins where you want them on the card panel, then press the frame in place.
  • Finally, place foam adhesive or dimensionals on the back of the Red Queen and Alice Printed Beautiful Board and adhere on each side of the frame.

I think it’s extra fun that the finished frame sort of resembles the mirror from Through the Looking Glass.

Other Details

Every rose garden needs a butterfly!  This one was the perfect match for my gold dusted red roses.  A silver tone tea cup charm tucked into the bow cluster just seemed like the right thing to do.  And I dug through my vintage black buttons to find these beauties.  Aren’t they fun?

Do you see the little mushrooms peeking out from the rose garden?  Perhaps this butterfly was once the Caterpillar from our story.  Who knows?

A Peek Inside

I tucked a couple of goodies inside the pocket.

I found this tag while digging around in my stash, and could not resist adding it to the mix.

LemonCraft Delicious Country Cottage Teacup Easel Card Tutorial for Throwback Thursday

Hello, Friends!  For today’s Throwback Thursday we’re going to dig into our scraps for this darling Country Cottage Teacup Easel Card Tutorial.  You know that tea themed projects are near and dear to my heart.   This tutorial will also show you how to successfully combine collections from two different companies (LemonCraft and Prima) !  So grab a cuppa and let’s get this party started!

Country Cottage Teacups

Country Cottage Teacups Easel Card Tutorial for Throwback Thursday by Kathy Clement Photo 01

Do you ever combine paper collections when making a project?  Have you ever combined paper collections from two or more different companies?  Sometimes, when you get to the bottom of a favorite paper collection, you need to get really creative.  That was the case with this 5 1/2″ square easel card.  I had 2 little 6×6 sheets of LemonCraft Delicious and a very small pile of scraps left after making several other projects.  (You can see those HERE and HERE. )

Sadly, this was not enough to make an interesting card.  So I put on my thinking cap and dug deep into the Closet of Goodness and Delight.  To my delight, I discovered that Prima Fruit Paradise scraps work beautifully with this particular collection!  How did I arrive at that conclusion?  Here’s what to look for when combining collections:

  • First, think about the color palette.  You want to look for similar hues.  The pinks in the cherry blossom pattern from Fruit Paradise flowed beautifully with the pinks in the teapot cluster on this Delicious paper.
  • Next, think themes.  I remembered that Fruit Paradise featured cherries and cherry blossoms.  Perfect!
  • Now, think patterns.  The gingham/cherry check paper paired up beautifully with the green gingham from Delicious.
  • Finally, think hues.  Both these paper collections use very soft pinks and greens.  That works!
Tying it All Together

The next thing you want to do is think about ways you can tie the two collections together.  Look for clues in the papers themselves to help you solve this riddle.

  • First, the teapot in the Delicious collection made it easy to choose the theme: tea!
  • Next, I remembered the cute teacup die.  If I die cut the cup with the Prima cherry blossom paper, it would flow nicely .  Perfect!
  • Now, look for embellishments that pull the colors together.  Roses in various shades of pink do the trick there.  And the little Prima spoon filled with pink sequins reinforces the color palette.

Repeat the theme on the easel card stopper.  These cherry buttons seal the deal.

A Peek Inside

That green gingham easel brake is actually a pocket.  We’ll take a peek at what’s inside there in a second.  But first, pay attention to the mini teacup and cherries that decorate the area above the fold.  I had just the right sized scrap of the red gingham paper from Delicious to die cut this teacup.  Adding the fussy cut cherries and the stamped sentiment finished things off nicely.

Look how beautifully all these patterns play together.  You’d never guess that they are from different collections, let alone from different manufacturers!

What’s in the Pocket?

Tuck a pretty tea bag and a sweet little tag inside the pocket and now you’ve got a gift.  This laser cut tag came to me a couple of years ago in a goodie box from Laserowe Love.   I’ve been saving it for just the right project.  You’ll see how it comes together in the video tutorial.

Reneabouquets Tea Amidst the Roses Card

Reneabouquets Tea Amidst the Roses Card Lemoncraft Delicious by Kathy Clement Photo 01

Reneabouquets Tea Amidst the Roses Card

Hello, Friends!  Let’s start the week off with a bit of Tea Amidst the Roses Card.  Since I had the scraps from last week’s Throwback Thursday post out on my desk, I decided to go ahead and make another card with my Reneabouquets goodies and Lemoncraft Delicious collection.  This morning we’re sipping on a cup of Irish Breakfast Tea in a glorious garden filled with fragrant gardenia blossoms and creamy yellow roses.  Pull up a seat and enjoy the moment with me.

Taste and See

At the beginning of 2021, these lovely words from Psalm 34:8 began to “sing” in my heart: “Taste and see that the Lord is good.”  I have been praying them almost daily, so you can imagine my delight when I found this stamp in my stash!  It was the perfect sentiment for this 6″ x 6″ card.

Putting this card together is pretty simple:

  • First, cut a piece of Ivory Wide Floral Lace in half and stitch it onto  a 6×6 square of the Lemoncraft Delicious collection.
  • Next, heat emboss a Reneabouquets Rose Heart Locket Frame with Versamark embossing ink and Stampendous Shabby White Embossing Enamel.
  • Now cut a 6×6 panel of the tea image to fit behind the frame.
  • Then stamp the sentiment on a scrap of cream paper using Jet Black Archival Ink.
  • Next, smoosh Peeled Paint Distress Ink on a non-stick craft sheet, spritz with a bit of water and dip the sentiment into the beads of ink.  Trim out the sentiment and tuck inside the frame.
  • Now adhere the frame in the center of the gingham panel.  Adhere the Reneabouquets Printed Beautiful Board image to the left and a flower cluster in the lower right corner.
  • Fussy cut floral clusters from the paper collection and adhere as seen.
  • Finally, add seam binding bows.

A Peek Inside

Die cut a teacup pocket and tag to decorate the inside of the card.  Then add a pocket on the bottom where you can tuck in a little note card/gift card wallet and a tea bag.  Decorate the pocket with some fussy cut elements from the paper collection.

Stamp a sentiment on the little tag and tuck it inside the teacup.  I am so glad I found this set while cleaning out my closet the other day!  Look what happens when you clean!

You’ll find a linked supply list below this post.

I hope this lovely bit of Scripture will enrich your lives as it has mine this year.  Day by day, I find myself “tasting and seeing” the goodness of God in my life.  It’s a wonderful exercise in gratitude and positive expectation.  I think it has kept my heart full of joy.  May it do the same for you, my friends!

Summertime Tea Party in a Box Tutorial

Lemon Craft Tea Party in a Box Tutorial Reneabouquets Kathy by Design Throwback Thursday Photo 01

Lemon Craft Delicious Summertime Tea Party in a Box Tutorial for Throwback Thursday

Hello, Friends!  Would you like to join me for a  Delicious Summertime Tea Party in a Box Tutorial?  Welcome to Throwback Thursday! Let’s celebrate the promise of summer with Lemon Craft’s Delicious Collection. I’ve invited some lovely Reneabouquets and other crafty friends to the party, too. Imagine us sitting together under a shady tree, sipping strawberry tea poured from a polka dot tea cup.  The breeze is warm and gentle.  Birds are singing happy tunes.  Dandelions carpet the ground.  And we have all afternoon to sip, chat and relax.  Sounds like heaven to me!

Strawberry Season Inspiration

It’s strawberry season here in North Carolina, and that inspired me to dig out the bits and bobs of Lemon Craft’s Delicious paper collection.  This is a favorite, and it starred on the blog several times this past winter.  You can find those posts in the archives.   You will see that all of those projects took on more of a winter vibe.  So I wanted to bring this lovely collection into early summer.  And that’s how this Strawberry Season Tea Party in a Box idea came into being.

Working with Scraps

If you are like me, you save scraps from your favorite paper collections because you love them too much to toss them.  Today I hope to show you how to put those scraps to good use.  HEre are a few ideas that I used while making this 6″ x 6″ party in a box card.

  • First, fussy cut!  Sometimes a panel of paper is too small or awkwardly shaped to serve as a focal image.  But, if you fussy cut the image, it works beautifully as a focal.
  • Next, layer in some textiles!  My paper supply was limited, so I could not create my normal layers of designer paper.  But this Wide Floral Lace Panel created a gorgeous backdrop for the fussy cut image.
  • Think embellishments.  Do you have buttons, bows, embellishments and flowers in your stash sitting around gathering dust?  Why not dig them out and put them to work?  This is a great time to use them to add interest to a basic card design.
  • Finally, break out your stamps and dies!  I used a lovely sentiment stamp and tag die (linked below) to create another layer of texture and pattern to the card design.

A Peek Inside

One of the great things about a box pocket card is that you can use a “short” panel of designer paper behind the pocket.  And that’s exactly what I did here.  The panel on the top of the card comes from the inside cover of the paper collection.  All the white space on it lets it perform double duty as a place to write a greeting.

One of the things I love about making these box pocket cards is the opportunity to wrap the treats with scraps of designer paper.  Because our weather is definitely warming up, I did not want to put any chocolate in this card, for fear of melting it.  So I created a sweet magnet to tuck inside the pocket as a substitute.

We will make the magnet together in the video tutorial below.

I hope you’ll enjoy making this Throwback Thursday project with me.  Even if you don’t have this collection in your stash, there are a lot of good tips and ideas that you can use with products that you do have.

One last tip:  After I’d finished the tutorial, I remembered that I had one of these sweet little spoon embellishments in my stash.  First, fill the bowl of the spoon with a bit of Dries Clear Adhesive.  Then sprinkle in some Reneabouquets Pearl Glitter Glass (linked below) to resemble sugar.  It’s the perfect finishing touch!
