Peter Rabbit Banner Tutorial

Peter Rabbit Banner Tutorial for March 2024 Banner of the Month

Hello, Friends!  I have a special reason for making this Peter Rabbit Banner Tutorial today.  Our precious oldest daughter is expecting her first child in June, and we couldn’t be more excited!  Her nursery decor will feature a Beatrix Potter theme, so I just had to dig out these older Peter’s World papers from Memory Place and stitch her up a banner.  What a fun afternoon in the studio!

Here’s a peek at the whole banner.  There are seven pennants and 2 different shapes in three different sizes.   Isn’t it sweet?  We don’t know yet if we are expecting a girl or a boy.  They want to be surprised. But these are her nursery colors, so everything really worked out well.

Simple Layouts

Because babies eyes don’t always focus well on busy patterns, I opted to keep the layouts on this banner quite simple.

Each pennant has a simple scene with a larger focal image.  I did incorporate layers, of course, but I really did try to keep to a simpler, cleaner design.

Since I had used most of the images that came with this collection, I had to fussy cut the characters from 12×12 papers.  I also fussy cut post marks from the backgrounds and used them to create a sense of depth.

Antique Lace

This antique lace was a birthday gift from my daughter, so it feels right at home on this banner.  As always, I stitched the pennant to the wide ribbon with the pennant in between.  Then I turned and stitched along the bottom of the ribbon so that the banner lays nice and flat.

I also machine stitched around the edges of each pennant to add to the vintage feel.

Soft blue, tan and buttery yellow flowers complement the vintage papers quite nicely.

If you’d like to watch me build the scenes on each pennant and embellish it, please enjoy this YouTube tutorial.

I hope you enjoyed that!  You can find other Peter’s World projects in my blog archives. Beatrix Potter was such a creative and imaginative soul.  I’m so glad she was born!

I’ve linked in the video to some stores where you can still find this collection.  It’s pretty hard to find, so I thought some of you might appreciate that.  A little box will appear up in the corner of the video.  If you click on it, you’ll be able to order the product.  (If I did that right!  It’s a new feature on YouTube.)

Thanks so much for joining me friends!

Cheerio,
