Mother’s Day Beach Gift Basket and Tags with Petaloo and Authentique

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the Merry Month of May!  In a few short days it will be Mother’s Day.  Do you have your cards and gifts all made?  If not, I’m here to help with a super fun Mother’s Day Beach Gift Basket and Tags.

Mothers Day Beach Gift BasketI found this pasteboard berry basket when I was packing up the studio to move, and when I received the bright, tropical Authentique Utopia collection in my Petaloo Design Team package, I knew they were a match, so I went to work on this Mother’s Day Beach Basket and Tags goodie pack.

Mother's Day Beach Gift BasketI started out painting my berry basket inside and out with a coat of Studio Matte Multi Medium. This served to strengthen the basket and made it a little more waterproof as well.  Next, I applied Matte Medium to my Petaloo Burlap trim and glued it all the way around the basket like a belly band.   I added a row of Pink Burlap trim around the lip of the basket. Layering on pretty flowers, a seashell charm, fibers and memo pin title make it feel fun and festive.

Mother's Day Beach Gift Basket Then I went to work creating a series of tags to tuck inside the basket.  I found that Ranger Manila Tags worked great when I trimmed about 1/5″ off the bottom edge.  After inking all the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, I layered on fun papers and images from the Authentique Utopia collection.  Tucking in Petaloo flowers and little beach goodies I found in my stash made each tag into a mini gift all its own.

Petaloo Utopia Mother's Day Gift Ensemble 07The back of each tag is covered with more paper and a Life Card from the Authentique collection.  You can write Mom a note, share a memory or attach a photo for even more fun.

Petaloo Utopia Mother's Day Gift Ensemble 08The paper collection is filled with fun elements like this little banner.  And the canvas Dogwood Blossoms and burlap trims are such a great color match!

Petaloo Utopia Mother's Day Gift Ensemble 09I had fun making this DIY Textured Elements blossom!  I love the layers!

Petaloo Utopia Mother's Day Gift Ensemble 10 I love all the texture the Petaloo trims add to each tag, don’t you?

Petaloo Utopia Mother's Day Gift Ensemble 11And you can never have too many flowers for Mom on Mother’s Day!

Petaloo Utopia Mother's Day Gift Ensemble 12These canvas blossoms were spattered with a little Dylusions Linen Spray, and it was so much funj, I went ahead and spattered the artwork, too.

Petaloo Utopia Mother's Day Gift Ensemble 13Here’s a look at the reverse side of another tag.  You could even take pictures of your Mother’s Day celebration and save them here. Wouldn’t that be fun?

Petaloo Utopia Mother's Day Gift Ensemble 02I had just enough room at the back of my Mother’s Day Beach Gift Basket to tuck in a little altered slider box.  I just love how cute this is with Canvas Dogwoods and burlap string!

Petaloo Utopia Mother's Day Gift Ensemble 03The box was just the right size to hold 5 Fun Size candy bars.  And in case you were wondering, yes…3 Musketeers is my favorite!

How fun would it be to make Mom a tropical breakfast with a Pina Colada and some fresh pineapple and then tuck this darling Mother’s Day Beach Gift Basket onto the tray?  You could hide a gift card,  Spa Getaway or other small gift into the basket, too.

I hope you found some fun ideas here.  I know this Mom loves the beach…and chocolate, and cute tags and pretty flowers…so I’m pretty sure your Mom would be thrilled with a Mother’s Day Beach Gift Basket, too!

Thanks for stopping by!

Queen for a Day Mother’s Day Card

Queen for a Day Mother’s Day Card for Petaloo

Hello, Friends!  When I was a little girl, I remember watching an afternoon show with my mom called “Queen for a Day.”  We would snuggle up together on the couch and wait for the announcer to call out, “Do YOU want to be Queen for a Day?” at which point the women in the audience would clap and shout and cheer.  A few would be picked to come on stage and be interviewed, and finally the contestant who received the most applause would be crowned “Queen for a Day” complete with a tiara, a fur-trimmed red velvet robe, a bouquet of long stemmed roses, and loads of fabulous prizes…like a washer and dryer, kitchen appliances or maybe even a night out on the town. (Oh, how times have changed!)

This show obviously had a huge impact on my young mind, and for years when I made Mom her Mother’s Day card I would emblazon “Queen for a Day” across the front of the card because, let’s face it, Mom is supposed to be Queen for a Day on Mother’s Day!  My mom has been in heaven for a number of years now, but I still make at least one Mother’s Day card each year to give away.  This year, I used Graphic 45’s Gilded Lily to make this whimsical “If the Crown Fits” Mother’s Day Pocket Card.

I layered up soft pink and gold and glittered papers with the gorgeous prints in Gilded Lily.  The “Queen” was fussy cut, and I rounded out her ball gown before I glued it down.  She is floating on a sea of gorgeous pink Petaloo Flowers: Velvet Dogwoods, Velvet Hydrangeas, Mini Blossoms and Canvas Dogwoods.

Those sumptuous flowers,  fancy filigree corner, baby pink seam binding bow and copper crown charm make this card fit for a Queen!

And if we’re going to “gild the lily” we might as well carry all this gorgeousness over to the inside of the card.  I love the sentiment panel on the left: “Keep Calm and Adjust Your Tiara.”  What mom out there hasn’t lived THAT day?  And look at all the lovely Ladies in Waiting on the right hand side of the card.  They are ready to answer Queen Mom’s every whim.

The pocket on the right contains an ephemera card from the collection.  This gives you plenty of room to write Mom a mushy note, or a sweet memory.  Because at the end of the day, that’s what Mom really wants, isn’t it?  I dressed this up for the party by adding more Fancy Trims and a singular Velvet Dogwood Blossom and leaf.  ( Here’s a handy hint: when you glue down those pretty velvet leaves, “scrunch” them up a little with your fingers to make them look even more realistic! )

Tuck in a gift card for a day at the spa, and Mom will really feel like she’s Queen for a Day!

Thanks for stopping by!
