Stamperia Orchids and Cats Party in a Box

Hello, Friends!  This Stamperia Orchids and Cats Party in a Box is one of several special order gifts I made during the Christmas holidays.  It will come as no surprise to learn that this was made for a cat and plant lover.  Sometimes I am asked why I keep such a large stash of papers. (Of course you never ask such things.  You understand completely.  This is why we are such good friends.)

When a customer says, “I need a special gift for someone who has everything. She loves cats and plants.” I can answer, “oh, I have just the thing.”  I always feel somewhat vindicated when I can reach into the Closet of Inspiration and Delight and find the very thing that a customer is looking for.  It’s wonderful when it works that way!

This is a larger than usual party in a box with lots of layers and fussy cutting. By layering fussy cuts beside and behind the focal image, I was able to create the cozy little scene on the cover.

I am sure this sweet kitty is having the loveliest dream while its bolder companion is gazing out of the window to the wide world beyond.

TIP: Fussy cut the small cat image, then back it with foam tape.  Now you can tuck it into the flower cluster to add a bit of whimsy to the card design.

A Peek Inside

One of the biggest challenges I had in making this gift was the size of the images in the 12×12 paper pad.  But fussy cutting around the profile of this snoozing feline allowed me to use it as a flap element inside the card cover.

A beautiful garden of orchids is hidden behind the flap along with a few fussy cut images and sentiments.

Party in a Box

How do you put together a party in a box?   First, gift wrap a tall packet of Raspberry Cocoa.  Then top it with a pretty bow to make it extra special.  Next, use scraps of designer paper to gift wrap some cookies and chocolate. Now tuck in a vintage silver plate demitasse spoon for a dash of elegance.  Finally, stitch up a little magnet to add a gift that keeps on giving.

I know many of you have a fear of cutting into your Stamperia papers.  Perhaps this example of how I used them will give you the courage to bring them to life.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Cheerio,

kathy
