Vintage Blue Teapot Card with Wax Seal Demo for Throwback Thursday

Hello, Friends!  The blustery weather here in North Carolina inspired me to create this Vintage Blue Teapot Card with Wax Seal Demo as our Throwback Thursday tutorial today.  I’ll show you how I used the Spellbinders January 2024 Wax Seal of the Month and I’ll share a fun way to use a 3D embossing folder to dress up a die cut teapot.  Sound like fun?

We had a huge storm blow through here yesterday with lashing rain (no joke!) and winds gusts up to 70 mph.  It was a grey, wet, raw day.  But perfect for staying inside and exploring the Closet of Inspiration and Delight!  I have wanted to use this cute Spellbinders teapot die for ages, so I paired it up with Prima Georgia Blue papers and let the crafting adventure begin!

Fun with Wax Seal of the Month

I used this same wax seal on the bee themed card I shared last Thursday.  It’s amazing how different these seals look depending on what wax you use.  If you’d like to see how I added it to my card design, I’ll show you in the video tutorial below.

Dies and Embossing Folders: Made for Eachother!

I’m a sucker for 3D Embossing Folders.  First, they are so easy to use!  Then there’s the added texture they bring to a project.  You really get a lot of bang for your buck, and they are non-consumable.  I broke down this year and signed up for the 3D Embossing Folder of the Month Club at Spellbinders, and I’m excited about adding to my stash of 3D folders.

Here’s how to create this sweet little vintage blue teapot:

  • First, die cut the teapot from designer paper.
  • Mist it lightly with water and run through your die cutting machine using the correct sandwich for  your machine.
  • Next, die cut a second teapot using heavy weight cardstock.  Then glue the two layers together.
  • Now ink the edges with Faded Jeans Distress Oxide ink so that it will “pop” off the page.
  • Brush the raised, embossed areas with Stormy Sky Distress Oxide.
  • Then place foam tape on the bottom, the spout, and the handle and adhere to your card.

That’s all there is to it!

A Peek Inside

Create a pocket and a tuck spot inside the card to provide plenty of room for notes and treats.

These teacups were left over from an earlier project, but they make a great little tea wallet, don’t you think?  It’s always fun to find new ways to tuck treats into a project!

If you’d like to watch me put this card together and share a little wax seal demo, please enjoy this video on my YouTube channel. (Spoiler alert: I show you how to fix  a wax seal when you’ve botched the job.  Not that I botched the job, of course.  No…not at all!)

I hope I’ve shared some tips and ideas that you can use in your next crafty adventure.
